You fucking kids don't know how lucky you are to have parents that support you skiing. My parents wont let me go to the Queen's Cup in PC.... and I'm 21!! If I go they say they'll yank me outa college. My sponsor is even paying me to go, and I'm only gonna be missing one day of classes that dont even matter!! They're still mad at me for quitting my college tennis team for skiing. It's pretty hard to compete with my brother whos on the Stanford track team...... My parents are so blind to opportunities, its disgusts me.....
 
oh yea..... and I dont have ANY snow unless I drive 4 hours..... which I cant do cause I'm apparently on a leash by my parents
 
that really sucks. i cant imagine having parents that just dont understand. im sure there's a copyright infringement in there somewhere. sorry Will.
 
I think you're being very ironic...Let's consider it from your parents view. They are paying LOTS of money for YOU to get a decent future. Hmmmm, I think they should be able to tell you what to do in that aspect. If you don't like it move and live on your own.

By the way YOU are fucking lucky to even have the chance to ski. You know how many kids out there born into poverty never even get a chance to own a toy? You're mad because you can't go to a competition? I can understand your mad, but think before you throw words around with such irony.
 
yes, and my major is parks and rec management, so i know and they know that i'm eventually going into the skiing business...... u would think this would be an opportunity that would look awsome on my resume.... you would think missing one day of school would be worth it...

do you go to college in your hometown? i miss class for skiing all the time and theres no way my parents could find out.

really you make you're own oppurtunities.

Yeah I am in a similar situation,my parents always supported me but had no access to anything but a tiny hill, and now Im 18 and to be honest 18 is to old to start competitions. I am at first year university and would kill to be doign what these kids have done or are doing. Like I'm a the varsity track team, which is cool but compared to skiing I hate running.

So next year, Im taking some time off school, and track. Im gunna give skiing a decent shot. And travel and just becoem the best skier I can.

So what I'm trying to say is if you're 21, live the life you want. Im sure your parents will respect you still. Especially if you have sponsors I say take some time off from school and go for it. You're at the peak of life why waste it.
 
that really sucks. parents can be bitches. the whole paying for college thing sucks but im pretty sure they cant yank you from a college...just stop paying for it.
 
threaten to put em in a home as soom as u can....or say if u take away my colledge i will have to live with u ugys for the rest of my life......it will work
 
Your parents need to get a life and let you have your own life. My parents support me in anything I want to do. If I told them I want to drop out of school for a year (hell, for several years) to ski or travel or whatever, they (my Dad especially) would think it was the coolest idea ever. They brought me up in a way so I appreciate everything that they give me and all they have done for me, and they were pretty strict while I was growing up, but since I turned 17 they have let me make all my own decisions and live my life the way I want. When I was a senior in high school they moved to Pennsylvania and got me and appartment so I could stay in my high school and graduate.

It's not like they are going to keep giving me money when I get out of college-they have made it really clear that I am on my own when I graduate (plus they have been weaning me off of their cash for a while. I pay for all my skiing stuff btw), but for now they will pay for all my school as long as I pass and they pay for my apartment and food. I guess I lucked out in the parents lottery.

Anyway, back to the thread- you should have a sit down talk with your parents and let them know how much you appreciate all that they do for you, but that they need to make your own decisions. Play the "I need to learn to be independent card", but watch out for the classic "then pay for your own college" response. Honestly though, how would they know if you took off for a little while? Do you live at home?

your mad at kids because they take for granted the fact that their parents support their skiing. who says they do? maybe alot of their parents dont supprot their kid's decision to ski and they become responsible for themselves and what they love and take it into their own hands to pursuit this.

maybe its time for you at 21 to stop being a kid and become an adult. see whats more important to you, skiing, or having your parents mad at you (I doubt for more than a week)

and maybe at 21 you can make responsible decisions, you can drink now which you should do in moderation, consider school the same way. you can cut, wether your responsible enough to do it in moderation is up to you and that will show wether your an adult or one of those kids who apparently just dont know how it is
 
how lucky we are? hahaha. anyways why would you even tell them? i doubt if you miss a class the college will call your parents.

cmon you're 21!! do whatever you like, you're parents will just have to deal with it. my parents (especially my mom) isn't too happy with the amount of time I spend skiing, but they respect what I do with my life even tho they don't agree with everything. you should just expalin to them that it's imortant to you and tell them that you're gonna do it cause you're an adult and you make your own decisions over your own life
 
no, if you're supported by your parents it's their rules. Now if you want to go out and try to make it on your own, working a $7 an hour job, going to college, and try to ski, good luck with that one.

I totally feel for this girl. I'm in college as well, and my parents hate the fact that I ski. I didn't play lacrosse in college because it wouldn't allow me to ski and do other things that I liked.

When you're parents are the ones that pay for your education, and your housing and your food and your cell phone, and all of those things you take for granted, you are under their power.

Some of you kids are really spoiled and have parents who just shell out cash like it's nothing and let you do whatever the hell you want.

I'm 19 years old, and if I want to continue to go to college, and do the things I need and want to do, I am under the mercy of my parents who are my support crutch. If I want to be a "big man" and make it on my own, I'll be in so much debt I don't know what I'd do. So many kids are up to their armpits in debt because they want to be all tough and break off from their parents. Yes, at age 19 I'd love to make my own decsions, but a lot of the time those decisiions cost a lot of money, and I could not support those decisions with out my parents.
 
Im glad that my parents let me go to comps. But they don't encourage me. Man that must really suck for you.

The only thing I can suggest is make her or them understand that this event is important for your life and your sponsors. Thats what I do...
 
As Bobyohan said, how exacly will they find out if you skip class? Last time I checked they don't take attendence in college. Also IMO yanking you out of college is a stupid bluff. If they have paid for you to go that means that they want you to go. I doubt that they are going to screw your future over because of a bluff.
 
just go and when they yank you out of college, take out a student loan, they're not that bad. And when they see how much it means to you maybe they will be nicer about skiing
 
Perhaps, I know mine wouldn't pull me out of college. But they have made my life a living hell before. They have shut off my cell phone more than once. Not helping me pay my frat dues. Bailed out helping me pay for my lacrosse dues in highschool, as well as my car insurance one month.

If hers are like mine, they can really fuck you in the ass if they really want. When you only have time to work 15 hours a week at $7 and hour like me, you are basically helpless.
 
unless you live at home just go to the ski comp and don't tell your parents.... If they call just say you were sick and sleeping
 
The sad thing is, is that they always follow through on what they say.

I remember in high school they usually would ground me or take my car away when I did something against their will.

Now, since I'm in college, they know that I could potentially be uncontrollable so they use the threat of throwing me out into the streets, cause they dont pay for my food, car, clothes, or anything else. I realize they are looking out for my future and all..... but this is getting way outa control when you use serious threats like that
 
But this time your talking about a future, not a mean of transportation. Your parents will be really guilty if you end up on the streets.
 
All I can do, or say is its up to you, either they are bluffing or they have a good reason for you not to go.My parents are also like that, but not as bad.
 
ya my rents pay for my college, so there are some things i just cant do. its either sometimes go see a friend, or pay for all of college. seems like a simple choice. but how would they know if you missed a class? and your 21 so you have at least a year left, if they stopped paying for college that close to graduation they are idiots. so dont worry about it.
 
1. Get a job.

2. Pay for your own education/lifestyle.

3. Tell your parents your and adult and an independent human being.
