so about three weeks ago i was riding my bike from slc airport to my house at 10 pm. While cruising downtown just jamming away to african handdrum music (rap) some homeless guy starts hollering and waving at me. Now im not an asshole, but i usually dont give a fuck in anyway shape or form about homeless people asking for money. For some reason i stopped took off my head phones and actually listened. This guy just got into slc from somewhere south and was all turned around and couldnt find the homeless shelter and had a few minutes to get there before they lock the doors for the night. He is about 60 years old, healthy looking, clean hands, clean teeth, a fucking dope mustache, and clean clothed, and didnt stink of shit. He asked if i could help him i got the address and we were like 5-6 blocks away. now if you have been downtown salt lake our blocks are pretty big. so i told him how to get there. Watched him pick up his bag and thought to myself, good lucking getting there in fifteen minutes. My heart softened for this guy and i offered to carry his bag if he in return carried my little back pack. His mother fucking bag must have weighed fifty pounds. either way we get to the place he gives me my bag i give him his. Introduced myself and he in turn told me his name Spencer. I pulled some cash out of my pocket and told spencer to get himself a decent breakfast tomorrow. He wouldnt take it. He said he didnt ask for any money. i in turn said just take it and save it then, might help some time. He thanked me over and over and over then told me he wanted to pay me back some time. so i said yo dog, i ride down this road every night at 10pm if you feel you have to pay me back meet me where i met you. three weeks go by and i never see him but i never once expected to see him again.
tonight i was out cruising around on my bike riding home from work and some old guy wearing a gap t shirt nice pressed jeans and clean shoes comes out hollering at me in the road. Its spencer. right away he pulls a twenty out of his wallet which is loaded with cash and says lemme get you something to eat. but i dont have a lock for my bike so i just sat outside and talked with him for 10 minutes. He has gotten a job at a grocery food place, has set up food stamps, and is working on getting a low income rental unit. All in three weeks this man has turned his shit around. I have plans to watch the lsu game with him tomorrow and grab a bite to eat. when does shit like this happen. it just made me so fucking stoked. Now with winter approaching and spencer being from the south im gonna hook him up with one of my winter coats i dont wear anymore and get him gloves and a beanie. now im not gonna just get friendly with bums, as a matter a fact i wont give any of them any of my money. but the one time i did, this is just amazing.

This is stuff I like to hear.

There's a corner right off the highway exit near my house where random homeless people always ask for money and such. I have a good friend who every once in a while will pick up one of these homeless guys and bring them to IHOP and treat them to breakfast. Afterwards he brings them to Target and buys them a few things that they need...usually gas for a stove or just small necessities. Giving is one of the best feelings in the world.

thats sick man nice work. but i dont think all homeless people are like that. i see some all the time around where i live. theyre always crazy on drugs and shit. one time i was riding my back downtown and one just poured his soda all over me for no freakin reason. kinda pissed me off. oh well

dude that story just made me so happy

thanks for makin my day bro, and props to spencer for turnin his shit around, that can be so hard at times

You make dope threads Astomp; the one from mexico was fucking awesome too.

keep it up!

thats a really great story, its a shame that the number of homeless people who really are willing to work and try to turn things around for themselves isn't that high. That sounds great for this guy though, props to him, and karma for you

yeah, it's nice to hear that he didn't jusst up on his life, and made a difference

you did a good act there man

haha I thought it was gonna turn out that he was a millionaire and was gonna hook you up with a ton of cash, but that's pretty cool.

I normally always give to homeless people when I'm in the city cause I don't live there, and I figure if they use it to buy drugs i don't care, whatever gets them through the day.
