i dont know where you got this idea, because all the people that i ski with in the park that have a racing background are better that those who dont; i race 2 days a week, i am first seed on my team, top 15 in the league, going to state, and i can go in the park, do rails unnatural, do s, c, and kink rails, do tailpresses, and throw down on large tables. your arguments are completely unfounded.

I raced this yeard. I spent most of the time hoping I wasn't going to be racing in the meets. It just wasn't all that much fun. Everyone was way to serious about stupid stuff. It was fun skiing with a whole bunch of friends though.

I too dropped out of racing this year, because I dont have time anymore, but you gotta admit, it gives you the best base for any kind of skiing..

i can respect racers, some are a little queeer, but racing does give you an unbelievable base for skiing. If you're a newschooler who can't actually ski, i think that is more pathetic than a skier who can't newschool.

I am curious how skiing suddenly became NOT about sliding on snow and instead became about flying through the air.

Only the impressionable youth would think that their vision is the only vision of what a sport is.

Tricks are NOT skiing, they are tricks.

Yes, it is impressive when people are adept at performing these aerial maneuvers, but if you ever get the opportunity to witness a top level racer during a downhill or even GS run, you might be suprised at how impressive that can be. It is an extremely difficult thing to be in full control of your skis at speed, and when someone can manage to shave hundredths of a second from their time due to the amount of control they excercise over the edge it is an amazing display.

You are only 15 bridger and you already gave up on racing, so I hardly think you even had the intellect to appreciate some of the things you saw. Being able to perform tricks is hardly a justification for a 'high skiing ability'. You knock groomers, but parks see more grooming on any given hill than any other run...

Man, racing is just another element of skiing. We all have our element as skiers. Some people like skiing trees and bumps, others like to cruise, and some people, like most of us like to jump, throw insane tricks and grind rails. Don't dis on one group of the skiing community 'cause you don't find it enjoyable. It's not like they came and groomed the terrain flat in your park and then put bumps on it. Unless they are bothering you let them be. Attack something worthwhile, like skiboarders or uptight ski patrolers...The only racers I have a problem with are the junior race team at my hill cause they suck it up in the park when ever they aren't practicing and don't understand the concept of waiting for a jump, aka they cut people off all the time.

Dude, Too bad a lot of good jibbers started out racing, and its also key for big mountain progression, Boyd Easley, Jon Olsson, Seth MOrrison, Shane Mconkey, all of them started out racing. Racing is really fun also, have you ever tried it? People that race are way better all around skiers than people that just start out jibbing. And one more thing, whoever said racers are pussys is wrong, Have you ever watched downhill, they go about 60 mph while catching about 15 feet of air (vertical) and 100 yards distance, Oh and the reason they wear padding is cause it kind of hurts to hit a gate while going about 30.

 
It is sad that im sure everyone on here pushes for tolerence and respect of newschool skiing as another aspect of skiing but yet people on here make a post such as this that is even close to being tolerant of other aspects of skiing. I am sure there are many people that say that people who newschool ski look pretty dumb in there baggy clothes and what not and we ask for respect from them but we should also show it back to the other areas of skiing.

I just appreciate that skiing itself is so much more than being able to spin or get inverted.

I have the rare opportunity to spend time with some of todays brightest 'newschool up and comers'.

It is from them that I have gained the appreciation for the roots of skiing.

I was a snowboarder until just a couple of years ago.

im going to partially agree with you. some racers are fucking dicks who think they're better than everyone. but to think they dont ski powder or hit jumps from time to time is just plain igorant. a lot of you guys need to stop labeling and segregating everything. skiing is skiing. who cares what aspect of skiing someone focuses on? some people like racing, some like huckin tricks, some like to rip big peaks. you cant say one is better than the other. some racers are dicks but then some of you guys are fucking dicks too. dont let a bad experience with someone ruin your impression of the whole group.

Exactly, i love racing, but i dont take any of it seriously, i never wax my skis, and when im suppost to be practicing im usually off skiing or in the terrian park throwing it down, i love the kids who sit up on top of the hill and wax there skis before a race, i like racing, but im not that serious about it.

For the most part I find that most racers seem to be a bit cocky. Just like in any sport, once you get to a high level of competition a lot of people know that they are good and are not afraid to let you know. Hell, I played baseball up untill my senior year, and as the years went on people became more and more arrogant because the ones that were good enough to still be playing knew that they were good. It's the same as racing, some of them are extreamly arrogant, but they are also pretty fucking good skiers. I havent yet seen a racer (that is on a race team) that sucks at skiing, and whenever they venture over to the park they still have more control in the air than most everyone else. SO dont rip on how these guys are assholes, because I've met people that are way more cocky and they are typically park rats. Oh and by the way briggerbowl or whatever the fuck you call yourself, how do you know these racers are gay? Do you sit their and watch them have sex as you video tape with one hand, and beat off with the other, you stupid fuck. Remember, they wear the tight suits for areodynamics, not for your pleasure.

I have a theory that all retards have one long tendon that goes from wrist to wrist, so therefore that is why they always are screwin around with one wrist up, and the other one down.

dude, racing can be a lot of fun, im on my hs team and i like it, its going fast thru gates and its not easy. I dont only race though, ill take pow and trees or a table and some jibs anyday

So much to say, but oh so lazy. So I'll just suck it up and let it all flow:\

People keep complaining that alot of racers are cocky and are dicks, etc. What about all the cocky jibbers?? 90% of racers are very cool chill people. Its the same with jibbers: most are quite cool, but some are just dicks, just like racers.

Second, on the topic of gs suit: they may not be your style, but why disrespect the people that do wear them? They are trying the'r hardest to win, and part of that at times is wearing a gs suit. Why make fun of someone for trying their hardest to win?

Third, I definitly agree with everyone who has been saying that racing helps your overall skiing. I also agree that racing has helped emencely with the development of our sport.

Fourth, you keep talking about racers needing to get out of the gates and learn some tricks and that there is more to skiing then just racing. The same can be said about jibbing. Alot of people on this site need to get out ot the park. And besides that, most racers do much more the just race. Daron Ralves, for example. He is the US's best downhill skier of all time, and he admits that he loves sliding rails and would take a deep powder run over racing anyday. And even if not, why knock someone for prefering to race? That is their preference.

Last, I must say for once take the side of the anti-racers just to say this: people saying that ignorant people that say stupid stuff (refering to the anti-racers) should be kicked off of this site are fucking hypocrites. Shit like that is just as ignorant as the things that you find ignorant.

As I have many times before, people just need to think things through before they say them. Too much shit is posted without really thinking them through. I also think that people respond in a much to hostile manner. If you want to refute what people are posting, then by all means do so, but so it in an intellegent way, but just 'you should go suck a dick you fucking little shit.'
