Well, I just went to resize my secondary partition on my hard drive, and it completely wiped out everything on my drive. My 700 mp3's, my winter footage from this year, all my pictures, everything is completely gone. I dont know what to do, so I am gonna go and cry. Im gonna start from scratch tomorrow and reinstall everything, make new partitions, and hopefully get it running again. I dont know what to do.

There is file recovery but it doesnt always work perfectly. Also, it costs a lot and for its effectiveness it doesnt seem worth it.

Nope, I didnt think I needed them anymore so I taped over them(there was only 2) with other stuff. Big mistake.

i think a file recovery program came with my computer, maybe yours did too. i think the file recovery is worth a try, unless either its super expensive or it might fuck up your comp even more.

take the comp, and take it to a shop. tell them what happened and have them hook up yer drive to another computer, and they can recover all your shit. because even though you delete it, it is still there, its kinda like they say you have free space, but really it is just things that you deleted, waiting to be written over. but if you don't write over them, they are still there. and also thats why when you get rid of yer old computers, keep the hard drives, or burn them or something because even if you delete the files, people can still recover them with certain programs, and gett all yer personal info

Yes, it deletes the contents, the data is still there. But its hard to get it back fully intact.

yeh u wont get it back in 1 peice, i experimented with it once, ther were alot of files that were still there but all fucked up.

damnit man, thats why you have to move all your shit to a backup drive before fucking around with it. That sucks.

your better off that way i like to format my comp every month or so just to keep me from piling up too much shit however i do tend to back up important things like mp3s and stuff. you gotta be careful nowadays just about every program you download has some form of spyware.

I hear you dude, I was just finishing my English Final the other day, this huge ass author report with all kinds of shit in it and all the sudden my computer flickered and went off and wouldn't turn on anymore. So I lost the whole fucking thing along with all my music, and tons of other crap it sucks. I just got done redoing my english thing, took me all weekend. Computers suck.

why were you trying to re-parition a drive with files on it? You might want to know what you were doing before you started fucking with your hard drives.

I had already done it once, I had it partitioned into 2 drives. Originally, I had it split into 2 drives, a 1 gig one for just the OS, and another one with everything else on it. After I installed windows, I found the 1 gig drive wasnt enough for everything, so I had to resize it to 3 gig. I just took 2 GB off the 79 gig one and out it on the 1 gig one. I used partition magic to do it, and it worked fine, all my files were still there. Now, after all this shit got installed and updates to windows and stuff, 3 gig wasnt enough, so I Wanted to go and make it 6. I made sure I did the EXACT same things as before, but for some reason it didnt work out this time. I am hopefully seeing if I can recover anything today, and then completely redoing everything tomorrow.

that's gotta suck

====================

Are you trying to be stupid?

If I am will it get me out of class earlier?

for next time defrag your drive before resizing

what probably happened was parts of files were scattered all over the disk so it got scerwed

Well no its permanently broken, I took it into the place to recover the files, and they plugged it in, and it made this wierd clickey sound, it permantly broken now, and the warranty expired just 17 days ago...Im so mad.

contact the company tat made the drive anyway they still may replace it especially if the head dropped, which is what that clicking sound is

that really sux, you might be able to get your mp3 files back, and my computer is almost as bad, it turns all of the files into hidden files..and if i can't remember something in the file i won't get it back

Ummm its pretty sketchy to partition once you have loaded the Os..Definetly not something i would encourage. There are a couple good file recovery systems out there but you will need a new Hd to copy all the uncorrupted fils to. And even that doesnt recover all data. And its also a pain because alot of file names are lost and all of your data will go into a Recovery Folder. Which isnt really a big deal if its just pictures and vids you want. You can kiss pretty much all programs goodbye if you cant fix your os on the original drive.
