i thought that the truth rail in the us open was the gayest rail i have ever seen.people should be able to smoke freely without a giant sign and uncle E saying smoking will kill u every time some one hits it. when an anti tobacoo ad is right in the middle of a slopstyle course it makes me think that our skiing will become like those faggot racers. skiing is about haveing fun and doing wat u want to do. i see tobacoo and weed as thesame type of thing so FUCK TRUTH as a sponser and as an orginazation!!!

 
Truth isn't an organisation designed to admonish smokers, it's designed to harass cigarette companies and excutives who lie about the effects of their products, make attempts to addict teenagers and effectively sell something that kills people, while simultaneously buying up politicians like they're going out of production. So stop complaining, because the fewer people who die from a stupid thing like smoking cigarettes, (which offer nothing beneficial to society whatsoever), the better off we'll all be. TRUTH is as up front as its name, and it offers just the facts.

Smokers who want to smoke do so because it's their choice. But if you're going to make a decision that might profoundly affect your life, you'd better make fucking sure it's an informed one.

You might want to ask yourself this question: Why the hell are you so angry? Is it, maybe, because subconciously you fell you've been cheated out of your health? Maybe you should focus that anger somewhere else than at an organization that tries to save lives.

^agreed Strode, I smoke still and quitting can be a bitch. I honestly wish I had never started. The one thing that I think is ironic though is the participation and founding of organizations like TRUTH by the tobacco manufacturers. I believe Phillip Morris is the backer of TRUTH, a little ironic don't you think?

What I find somewhat disturbing though, is that although the number of people smoke cig's on a regular basis is down, the number of people who ''socially'' smoke is through the roof. That is a little disturbing to me. Also, while I try to be as polite to non-smokers as possible (being a smoker) I find it disturbing that many anti-smoking campagns are not based on fact, but statistics that were admittedly blown completely out of proportion (second hand smoke figures).

Basically, just don't start, it isn't worth it, and it only creates problems and stress (if/when you try to quit).

A few years ago there was a HUGE class action law suit against Phillip Morris. This whole 'educating against the harmfull affects of tobacco' thing is a part of the judgement made agains Phillip Morris.

I'm against smoking cigarettes and think it's stupid .........that being said ,......someone above mentioned social security ,and that more people dying would leave more$$$ in SS......well do some research....the government has already spent most of the social security fund (which is essentially illegal)

 
The amount of money saved in not paying out Social Security to dead smokers is far outwayed by the huge amount spent on health care for sick smokers.

actually there is one very beneficial thing aobut people buying the cigarettes. A bunch of money was made off a law suit and all the taxes in the stae of Nevada and it went to a thing called the millenium scholarship which is a $10,000 scholarship I now have for college here at UNR. I wouldn't want to become addicted to smokeing but as long as the people who do continue to buy the tax money generated by the profits helps putkids in college, repair roads and do what ever else they feel is neccesary to do.

jd (I think that was who said it) was totally right.. they aren't trying to stop people from smoking - they are trying to make smoke companies tell the truth .. so at least you know before you did it. I have smoked 14 years and quit 3 weeks ago because of what I learned from those ads. I don't think everyone needs to stop... they can do what they want.. but I don't think those fat cats should get rich from kids smoking and killing their bodies.

Smoking is a horrible habit, you have all seen how people have killed their familly members from second hand smoke. Just a thought but how would you feel if you learned your mom was dieing from second hand smoke from you? Im sure it wouldnt be a pleasent feeling and it would probably make you re-think about quiting.

Actually, KRASHED is a perfect example of how mis-information can corrupt public thought and interpretation. The second hand smoke figures relating to sickness, illness, and disease, were all blown completely out of proportion, however, when it was announced that the figures were not just wrong, but way off base, no one cared. And now, because people believed the original figures, they are still being used against smokers, even though the medical community has subsequently prooved that the original figures were false.

Does that mean that people should smoke? No, not at all, it just means that if you are going to offer up reasons based on health of others (unwilling participants), the figures should be right, and not just frivilous number tossed up for shock value.

If you do not believe me on this, one of the biggest proponents of smoking bans based on second hand smoke figures was Dr. Drew (of Loveline - I cannot remember his last name). He even went so far as to say on the air that he and his beliefs that were based on those supposed facts were wrong.

I just think that there are plenty of smokers out there that feel bad enough about still smoking, but haven't been able to quit. I think peoples money and time would be better spent trying to help these people quit, as well as prevent kids from starting. The all out politically correct hatred of smokers is not going to remedy the situation, its only going to cause tension and hostilities that do not need to exist.

Freezy, there's no such thing as a drug company, unless you mean pharmaceuticals... and as for tobacco settlement funding, well, why shouldn't the money given to people who are dying from smoking go towards raising awareness about it? I mean I'd understand if they were militantly going around harassing people on the street, knocking cigs out of their mouths, but jesus, they make commercials, and whether you like to believe it or not, they DO tell the truth.

I don't understand how youcan hope to make them sound like the bad guy here... there are no 'half truths' as you call them (conveniently neglecting to offer anything vaguely resembling an example), there is no hidden corporate agenda as you seem to suggest (It's basically an NPO, they make enough money to support themselves, mostly through donation) and as for your free choice argument, well, Truth isn't telling people not to smoke if they want to, they're telling big tobacco to stop lying (Thus the name, Truth).

By the way, I'm sure you're proud of whatever role you might have played in the dissolution of a group of people whose intent was to further the collective health of mankind. I don't know if they went about it in some way that annoyed you, but really... how about putting your energy into doing something that benefits people. Although it's fairly common knowledge that smoking is bad for you, many people don't understand how bad, or don't think about it often enough. If organisations like Truth can cause just one person to rethink their decision and not pick up a cigarette, what they do is NOT a joke, it's the highest form of service possible.

But apparently you didn't care about that one person. Now, thanks to people like you, they can go on killing themselves, blissfully ignorant. There's a chance you may have just helped someone die by depriving them of the right to make an informed decision. Kudos.

 
People are not ignorant as they seem. With strong confidence i will say that every one within a reasonable age knows that smoking will kill you. This truth campaign is annoying at best. Who cares if there is cyanide or any of that other shit in there, it will kill just the same. This campaign is not going to get kids to stop smoking, all that it says is that it will kill you; stating the painfully obvious. Give America a little more credit, we know what we are doing is going to kill us and is addictive, you telling us over and over again is not gonna make us quit, only we will.
