Seriously though, one of the coolest guys I know is a cop. He's gotten me out of some shit... and on the flip side there are so dicks. Once you mature a little more you'll realize that without cops, you'd be fucked and they're only doing their job. They're not out there to piss you off... give it a few years and you'll realize it.

Actually the arrest is completely up to the discretion of the police officer. When he gets out of his car, he can issue a verbal/written warning, give you a fine, arrest you, or do whatever he feel the situation warrants. He is an officer of the law, employed by the state to protect and serve.
 
There is a thing called a wrongful arrest. The only thing cops can use their full personal discretion is a ticket. Anything else needs reasonable cause.
 
And to add to what I said... you were breaking the law in the first place to have them pull you over. They didn't just feel like puling you over to hand you a ticket.
 
Word, i also know some cool cops, not all of them are dickheads. More often than not though cops are just thought of as corrupt bastards who think they are above the law and can do whatever the fuck they want. In this whole situation, the cop went a little far with his excessive force on teenagers who in all honesty should get community service and not much else. But, we'll see how far this thing goes.
 
its true though, if an officer likes you, you wont end up in trouble. i recently got arrsted for trans of alc and i got a laywer who knew the officer. so instead of gettin my license taken for months and having this on my record i get 40 hours of community service and the case is put away with out finding. its just so fucked up that thats the way things work
 
fuck that policeman. He honestly seems psychopathic and not realistic at all, hes treating this skateboarder like a fucking terrorist. FUCK HIM AND HIS SHITTY FAMILY
 
If what he did is protocall something obviously needs to change. They're here to protect us not to terrorize us and keep us living in fear
 
Another incident would be when my friend got an MIP, and while he was in the back seat of the cop car waiting for his dad to come get him, the cop in the front seat was dangling his handcuffs in front of the cage or window or whatever saying, "You wanna wear these? You wanna wear these little bitch?" or something along those lines (seriously). So there is a high incidence of power tripping.

On the other hand, the other day I was pulled over for having 6 people in my car (I have 5 seatbelts) and the cop just told me to go back to school and that he didn't care, he just wanted me to be aware that if we got in an accident, someone would be hurt.

So cops have their on and off days, and some are more leniant than others.
 
bang on. People always think about what dicks theya re to them(skating, skiing, w.e) and not the danger they face EVERY day on the job. They are heros, not dicks, fags, or whatever other name you have for them. The force he used was a bit excessive, but nonetheless, the kids shouldnt have ran.
 
Precisely. In my experience, it almost always works to play dumb and be really nice to them. And if you're gonna run, you'd better hope the cop isn't having a bad day. Although, it seems like (from all the officers I know and have met) that there's a common mentality that skateboarding anywhere is (or should be) a crime.
 
they need to ease up on the skateboarding laws though. you can't destroy something on a skateboard much more than normal erosion, unless its grinding stairsets, but other than that if your not wrecking shit and just skating a nice manual pad or well waxed curb who cares

this guy should lose his job
 
I think we should maybe start up a new thread brainstorming possible skateboarding law alternatives to arresting, such as enlisting skateboarders to do basic maintenance on park benches and places where they skate. Then kids would be allowed to skate, make some money, have good surfaces for grinding and such, you'd be seeing where tax payer dollars were going, and cops wouldn't have to flip a bitch!
 
US police is fucked. the majority of the officers in our country are power hungry idiots. They go out of their way to make themselves seem like their better than everyone else.

On another note. I have experienced a lot of really nice cops. Their doing their job how its SUPPOSED to be done. By PROTECTING and not taking advantage of their powers. I completely respect what cops do by "putting their lives on the line". But the corruption is overwhelming. I want to feel safe when im walking (or even SKATING) down the street. They shouldnt worry about skateboarders and concentrate on the masses of criminals and scum in our country that deserve this type of attention.
 
unless they did something illegal there is no reason for that. I've had one experience with a cop and it was awesome. my brother and i were ropeboarding at a place that we've been kicked out of before and then all of a sudden we see a cop and we were like FUCK and then he pulls a u turn come out of the car while we were thinks shit its the po po. But the first thing he says is THAT IS THE FUCKING SICKEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. it was pretty cool to have my first experience with a cop a good one.

i cant say im suprised that they are hanging up on people. i know i'd be pissed if i had an issue that required polce help, but couldnt get through cose resources were beng tied up by people making a fuss about an issue that has probably been delt with a few days ago. and with the whole "cops are dickheads" thing, some are, some arnt, but i cant deny that some of kids riding on skateboards that ive run into are dicks too.
 
i don no where u live but in pa cops just look for little shit to arrest kids for. they got nothin better to do so they just drive around lookin for kids to take in.

cops are beat.
 
Until you are in a situation were you need there assistance then they become a hero. Stop being such a asshole. Not all cops are "faggots on a powertrip". They are there to protect YOU from a whole bunch of shit.
 
This is what i love about NS... everybody pulling together and getting a point across.

The force that Officer Williams used was excessive in all means. All he had to say was "Please leave or i will give you a ticket." Now it has become a huge issue and hes fucked.
 
you dont see what caused it in the first place because the camera got there late so i would reserve judgement. just like in the kramer video, you do see the start of it because it was convieniently edited.
 
Wow, that was so fucked. I almost got arrested once, but it was legit cause I broke into whaleback lodge to get some extension chords, and a silent alarm went off. I lied to the cop a bunch cause I didn't want to say I had gone inside and didn't know that I had set off a silent alarm. The cop was wicked chill about it tho.

This cop is absurd, If I was one of those other kids I would have given him sooooo much shit. Thats the gayest thing ever, I will complain.
