I won't comment on the original post, it doesn't deserve a response. As far as what it has become... Some of you might know that I'm a Marine. I've already served in Iraq, and have done a tour in the far east, I know what it's like from the other side of the arguement. I can tell you that as goes for at least 98% of the military community that we don't fight for the honor and and glory of our country. First above all else, we do what we're called upon, and if we fight for anything it's for the other guys fighting with us. So many times some of the guys I went to boot camp, r met along the way come back from their time in Iraq and just want to go back because they fear for their friends over there. And I constantly hear dtories about guys from my base being severely wounded and the only thing they think about while recovering is going back to protect and fight alongside his friends. There's no doubt a bond not unlike a brotherhood is formed in a wartime situation, and it's nothing to be mocked. A soldier's reasoning to join is nothing to be speculated upon, my reason was I felt indebted to my country for the freedoms I enjoy, It never crossed my mind that I wanted to fight for the honor of my country. For the people that are over there right now, they're just doing what they're told to do, and not ne time when I was over there during the war iteslf did I hear a nationalistic pump up speach being made. The speaches that were given to us only stated that we were there for the sole purpose to oust Saddam and free the people of Iraq. I won't speculate what the speaches are about these days. J.D., you might be smart, you might be a philosepher, and you do have a point as to how our media and public at large portrays a fighting man/woman... But you should know more than most that you can't believe everything you hear, cause there's always a spin. Support your troops, because we support eachother, I think that sums up my thoughts...

so they have the biggest say in it...as for your supporting our troops, i applaud you even tho you are anti-war bcz most of the anti-war ppl just make portests, which make matters worse, and put down the army which hurts their self-esteem and screws things up even more...i dont like going to war either, but i know it is a part of life and there will always be a war to be fought somewhere..i just wished it wouldnt be us, but since we are the superpower, it is our duty to protect the needs of other nations.

I hate to think there are more people who think that way, but at the same time, I know there are. If you're going to join the army, don't do it to be a hero, don't do it because it's inherently and automatically noble and honourable to fight for your country, because it isn't. Do it for the right reasons.

WW2 is a totally 100% differnet issue. although i probably wouldnt have suppoerted that one either becuase we only got into the war becuasse hitler was gonna take over the world if we didnt; we didnt actually care about the jews. and also, my satatment does not appily to people who were drafted!!! I've gotten to see much of the world because of the army. I have received good training, aquired good skills, and have 'world' experience.

And someone else will be going in your place. I'm a conscientious objector too, but I still oppose the draft because it means that people (who may even be unaware of the attainability of C.O. status) will be sent against their will to another country to kill and die. The guys over there may not agree with the war itself, or how its being conducted, but they honor the vows they took to protect a country that's been violated, as well as our own, and they are standing to not let it happen again. I'm not starting a 'agree with the war or not' arguement, but regardless you ill-minded jackass, you should support every fucking soldier we have over there, and the civilians that are working for haliburton, ya know, the guys getting kidnapped and beheaded... if you took your immature uneducated head out of your own ass, and listened to what is going on and took the time it would take to understand it, you wouldn't have opened your mouth and proved how fucking ignorant you are.

Well, I get to respond! I think you as well as many other on this site have a love for misconstruing crystal clear statments. I said we only fight when we're called upon, so where in there did I say we fight when our county's honor is under attack? I remember about 3 years ago a couple planes we're driven into some buildings in NYC, that, was a physical attack. A war on terrorism was declared, and since Saddam was a known harborer of terrorists, and a financier we attack them. Since you're basically focusing on our present situation I used that as an example of being called upon. Now, that we were sent there to fight, and we're still there I used the comraderie that is formed in the heat of battle for the main reason to carry on. Do you really think that if everyone couldn't give a fuck about everyone else that anyone would be out there fighting today? I think I spelled it out pretty clear that I joined the military to give back to my country because of my inherent debt that all of us owe to those who have fought and died for what we have today. Just a side note on that jaross, WW2 was not started because of the threat from Hitler, remember Pearl Harbor? FDR was doing everything in his power, negotiations, trade agreements to keep our country neutral. It wasn't until the Japanese attacked our country and killed thousands of our fighting men and civilians in an unprovoked surprise attack that we came into WW2. Because of military alliances that were in place back then; by declaring war on Japan we were also declaring war on Germany because of their alliance with Japan, although I think it was Hitler that declared war on us before we officialy targeted them... Please just read the post, I personally can't believe this thing is still going, were there pictures of hot girls on this thread earlier or something?
