Fuck poles

haha if anybody is bored and wants something to do, search no poles on the forum and read the evolution of the pole no pole debate. I feel no poles made real progress two years ago when the use of the word "Gay" dropped from every other post to just one in four.

When I use poles I don't even notice they're there for grabs, jumps, rails, anything really unless I'm actually using them for pole plants and such. Plus I think it looks awkward without them. Not having poles doesn't really hinder me in any way though even skiing trees and such. But what else are you going to beat people with when bitches ain't gettin you yo moneys yo?

I think its funny when people that don't ski ask you if you can ski without poles like its impossible or something.

i feel like skiing without poles is fun and its ok to do it occasionally, but I think that skiing with poles just looks so much cooler and a lot more natural.
Me personally I always use poles

i have two solution

1 hold you pole out in front of you like a joey...

2 use rediculously short poles...thats what i do my poles are legit 2 and a half feet long and im 6 foot 3

i was at crested butte this year for christmas break and abotu the 3rd day into my 5 day trip i thought hey why not so i ditched my poles for a few runs. I found that just about everything is way more fun without poles except for trees, but im trying to get better at that. but yeah bumps, pow, jumps, rails, all that is so much more fun with out poles. also you get all those wierd looks which are just hillarious

fuck poles they push ur teeth in and lead to 5 hours of surgery and huge medical bills

Fucked up my wrist this past weekend, and i couldnt hold my poles, so I just dicked around with no poles all weekend. It was alot more fun than i thought, but i must say that i found jumps really different without the poles. Did alot more rolling down the windows than usual. I jst got new poles for christmas, but i think im going to split my time between poles and no poles

my brother hurt his wrist so he was skiing no poles. I was like wtf and put them down for a run, it was kind of fun, easier to get grabs off little rocks and stuff. but I picked them up after that, haha. (it was a powder day)
but ya I always thought it was stupid, but it was fun.

used to love the short poles for the extra boost when needed. landed backseat, pole caught, broke my hand. cant use poles with my cast, and possibly wont when it leaves... word.

go with what ya feel

For the same reason downhill racers don't go with no poles in the Olympic Downhill, and the same reason Seth doesn't drop into an Alaskan heavyweight line with no poles:
Because even if you might not need to use them 90% percent of the time, you are still a better, more balanced skier with poles, and the pros don't want to do something that could potentially handicap their ability to recover if they lose their balance.
Yes, I know, you can do laps through the park with no poles and feel great etc., and if everything goes well then you could do a slopestyle run just as well with no poles, as you could with poles. BUT, if things get a little sketchy, having poles is a more stable option to recover with.
Wanna test that theory, go ski moguls both with and without poles, see which version gives you a quicker recovery when your balance gets compromised.
No poles can be fun, and it is also a great tool for gaining balance and working on grabs, but at the end of the day, using poles is simply a more effective high performance setup than not using them.

yea!!!

oh, and i feel pretty solid with or without poles, but normally i stomp tech-ier rail tricks w/o poles and new tricks on jumps with them.

I disagree. I feel that pro's use poles in comps because either: a) they normally do, or b) they don't want to get screwed over by judges or others who have misconceptions and biases against no-polers.

I decided to try no poles yesterday just for the hell of it. and i love it. just feel really free and i found rotations to be alot easier

well good point but the reason downhill racers use poles is that they cant drop without. you have to finish with 3 peices of your gear.

and i do mougles without poles to help my balance its sketch at first but it really helps i would reccomend it to anyone to improve your overall skiing

poles are only good on jumps for stability think tight rope walkers same idea with the pole but for rails no poles just feels more chill. i geuss it depends on how you wann look and how you ski. no poles looks dope for chill skiers but poles if you wanna look more intense.
