I'd way rather write a 10-page paper on that than a 10-page paper on some history event or a book or something.

But I'd rather not write a paper at all than either of those - which is why I'm a bio major.
 
I wrote my 15 page thesis in 2 days on Commodification in the music industry and how it's affecting sales. If you pick something really interesting, it's not hard to write on. Just put on some chill music and get into it, and be sure to map out your argument beforehand so you can't just git-er done and write circles around it.
 
You could refute the "How?" by asking "Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?" and revolve your essay around that.
 
Totally would think Why? would be the essay, not how?
Just write 10 pages of questions that start with how.

sorry but come on its college i write long term papers more than once a semester for class, its part of it. and philosophy is a really cool subject and pretty open ended.
 
Is this for a a university philosophy course? Seems like a pretty ridiculous essay topic to me especially if you aren't majoring in it.
Let us know how you decide to approach this one I'm quite curious.

Write a defense of the scientific method? I think that is one of the IB theory of knowledge papers that kids in that class can write.
 
That's such bullshit man, what kind of phil teacher is this. This is the kind of thing that you only hear about in made up stories (eg: essay on why, student writes why not, gets a...). I am an Honors Phil major, and my thesis topic is "Brandom's pedagogical elaboration as an Algorithmic Elaboration: Connectionism," and example of a real philosophy paper...Focused. What kind of dork teacher asks "How."
 
You haven't seen nothing, you should listen in to a fourth year seminar. It's like a tornado of pretension and condescension
 
i know someone who took that class, but there question was why. his answer was why not, and he got a 100 percent.

And they're all wearing blazers and scarves and even a few fedoras. The whole reason I was turned off of Philosophy is because 40% of you are stoners, 55% of you are pretentious blazer-wearing coffee sipping assholes, and the 5% that actually like what they do are forced out by having to deal with these people.
You're not better than everyone because you can reason through a problem that has no application at all. Philosophy is just intellectual masturbation.
 
that could actually be a fun essay to write. a lot less boring than dry research, but it depends on where you go with it. it is such an open ended topic that you can write an open ended paper.
 
Oh snap, I realized I put far too many "you's" in there. It wasn't aimed at you, but at the philosophy department. I realize there are a couple of guys that actually do well in it, but the majority are pretentious assholes.

Yeah some people studying in philosophy are just douches that masturbate their intellect but philosophy as a discipline is VITAL.

Word, this is kind of what I was trying to say. I`ve only taken college level philosophy so I was a little apprehensive in straight up saying how stupid and non specific the essay topic was but I guess I would have been right in doing so. I`m thinking of minoring in philosophy next year, I`m just afraid that at the university level it may be TOO intense.

naw youre talking out of your ass. i bet you couldnt tell me the first thing about phil of physics or anything. philosophy is hugely important in a lot of ways
 
You can't respond to "how?" with "because", that would be fore "why" and a better response is "why not".

You could give instructions on how to pass an overly openended essay topic.
 
What is the first thing about philosophy of physics? I am curios (not trying to be an ass).
 
haha sorry i meant that as a figure of speech. im not sure theres a real first thing to the phil of physics. right now we're just talking about fields and whether they exist or not and space and time and calc and shit
 
yeah, a lot of the stories you hear about really abstract and open questions, and people getting full marks by writing 2 words are false.

 
That is the easier paper in the world. You just explain how one concept in philosophy works. Picks something you like, and write whatever you want.
