Damn, computer....anyway...that clip was completely animation and compositing. It had no relevance to editing and more particularly editing in action sport videos.

...But it's one hell of an homage that everyone pays to Niel. He has become this cult figure by which all editing is judged. Good for you bro.

That video and the types of editing that Niel does actually happen in (this is an educated guess) completely different programs. That's why I was saying the comparison isn't really relevant.

Both parties are excellent at what they do.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure a lot of that happened in Maya or some other 3d animation program, and not FCP or AE.

by the looks of it I'd say most all of it was AE, with some plug ins. AE has very powerful 3d space capabilites, and if you notice the elements are all 2d.

the part where it is flying through the inside of whatever.... that was is just a repition of a layer in 3d space with a hole in it and the camera is flying through it.

no doubt that took a while to make though.

This is a little commerial I'm working on. It was all after effects, obviously its not done yet, but it goes to show you can make convincing 3d space with 2d objects... When I saw that clip up top I was like whoa... that looks like the start of my commercial!

After wandering around their website for a while, the original post was done in Motion I believe. I thought it was shake but I was wrong.
