Fuck Jason Chaffetz

Chaffetz is such a piece of shit, I'm embarrassed that people like him and Gary Herbert keep getting re-elected in Utah.

"No purpose for taxpayers" are you fucking kidding me you fucking cocksucking butthole mouthed sack of fermented shit. How the fuck is this real

hes such a mormon doucher. Never liked him and never will. In fact all utah senators are shitheads that prefer to sell off public lands to benefit "struggling rural communities" so they can line their pockets even more.

Its a plan to have a few oil wells just outside of zion's borders. I don't understand how they came to the conclusion it wouldn't affect wildlife. Also what is the point of fracking here, i doubt they will make much money for all the hassle this would entail. Im a transplant from MN and moved 3 years ago, i don't get how the officials here pick and choose their environmental battles when half the state is protected land with amazing scenery. Do this shit in the middle of nowhere past goblin valley, not by one of the most traveled national parks.

The point of fracking there is to induce permeability in the oil reservoir in order to enhance production. You don't just drill for oil randomly. Obviously this place is prospective for profitable development. If the right protocols are followed it can be done with extremely minimal environmental impact.

Source: I look for oil and drill wells.

Of course oil and gas people will say there is little to no impact. It's writing your checks.

I should've clarified my point in a better manner. I have no expertise in oil or geological science, I'm sure the assessment was accurate to the current standards in place. I just think its a little short sited and risky to do so close to a national park like Zions in the case someone slips on these protocols, cuts corners, and isn't inspected properly before production begins.

Is it really worth the effort for this specific oil site in the case something goes wrong? In the event something does go wrong it'd cause the company a PR nightmare being so close to Zions especially with so many environmental groups actively against this type of drilling. Why does it need to be this parcel of land, is this really going to move the profit needle that much for the company or are they doing this just because they can?

It just seems short sited and doesn't make sense to me as someone outside of this business who loves visiting Zions. I may be overly cautious but just because its up to today's standards doesn't mean that the current standards wont affect wildlife in a way that can still cause unforeseen issues.

Given that our new gov't is currently hellbent on rolling back environmental regulations, I have little confidence that you guys would take any measures to minimize impact. Especially if it is negatively affecting profit.

Not trying to attack you specifically, you probably don't have much say in your firm's environmental protocol.

I think he actually came up with the idea from Corey in the House

Ryan Zinke, the scheduled Secretary of the Department of Interior, is very opposed to selling or transferring Federal land so I think this would have never been approved anyway. Zinke looks to be solid member of the new cabinet, can't really say that about anyone else in the new administration.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm in Canada though so we have more stringent environmental protocols. I'm all for preserving the environment. I personally would rather they not develop land in such a manner. Just playing devils advocate. It sucks seeing environmental regulations rolled back, and the push for selling public land for development.

he's still trying to take law enforcement agents away from the national forest agency and the blm. fucking douchebag. cant wait to leave a few more voicemails tomorrow!

yeah, this is still quite significant. he proposed both of these bills at the same time, so even though it seems like he backed down from h.r. 621 due to public pressure, h.r. 622 is quietly poised to continue unimpeded. these fuckers know how to maximize the potential for their agendas to survive while placating their most oppositional constituants.

anyone from utah should make calls to him tomorrow. taking away forest service and BLM's law enforcement capabilities not only makes these areas potentially more dangerous for recreational users, it also potentiates wild misuse of the land and environmental degredation.

i sent this mother fucker death threats and told him if he doesn't repeal that bill that i was going to burn down his wife, beat the shit out of him, and fuck his wife infront of his kids

A violent "revolution" that you leftists will lose spectacularly, it would be a thing of beauty to watch a few anarchists and pajama boys with illusions of being the next Che Guevara getting lit up by patriots.

Now instead of constantly playing the victim, you can actually be one.

youre right. if it were simply a group of "leftists" trying to take over the govt, said revolution be quashed quite quickly. however, in the event of a collapse in ecosystem services (i.e. rural communities cant afford to treat their increasingly toxic water supply) the political spectrum will not matter. To be clear: I would not be stoked on a violent revolution/revolt no matter the political motivation, everyone loses.

But anyway, as the most outspoken supporter of the trump administration on NS, and someone who enjoys outdoor recreation (or used to), whats your take on hr 622? If it's successful, a lot of vets working for the nfs and blm would be out of the job. I would legitimately like to hear your opinion.

Can we bury the hatchet already and have a productive discussion? Or should we just keep wasting each other's time slinging meaningless insults from behind our keyboards?

Camp, this is NS not /pol/. I think most of us here are moderates that just love the outdoors, younger people also tend to lean left. Chill, you are venturing into heartcarve territory. Try articulating your points without using bombastic language, i bet you will receive way less hate.

It's baffling Chaffetz believes half the stuff hes saying, or he gets his news from 4chan.

Chaffetz said the standing room only audience in the auditorium at Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights and protesting outside included people brought in from outside Utah to disrupt the meeting.

"Absolutely. I know there were," he said, suggesting it was "more of a paid attempt to bully and intimidate" than a reflection of the feelings of his 3rd District constituents.

Asked who would foot the bill to bring in people intent on disrupting the meeting, Chaffetz said, "do some reporting" and described how one participant made it a point to say he was not paid by a national Democratic organization.

Chaffetz said he will continue to make himself available to voters but may avoid providing a venue "for these radicals to further intimidate."

Such a bummer this is how he took it. I wish he understood alot of the outrage is that he will cripple the BLM in his constituent's territory and that people like having open access to untouched public lands to enjoy the outdoors.

KSL coming in hot with fake news, fucking christ. Conservative mormons still think utah is how it was 15 years ago, which is just completely untrue. Salt Lake county and Summit county voted blue in the election, not just hillary but also for our representatives. He's delusional, he needs to realize that he's not representing only conservative mormons now and should start getting used to receiving some heat from the thousands of people who disagree with him.

I cant be the only one that thinks its funny he has pictures of him with his family at the great arch and stuff yet proposed a bill to sell off all that land

I can't believe he claimed that the protesters were paid. He's delusional and an embarassment to Utahns everywhere

I'm certainly no Chaffetz supporter, but sadly he is representing his district quite well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but neither Summit or SL County are in his district. Obviously plenty of Cottonwood Heights/BCC/LCC/Holladay residents don't see eye to eye with him, but the vast majority of the third congressional district is far from liberal.

Yeah all of Utah's districts are weird due to how lines were redrawn. They decided to split the SLC metro and PC between all 4 districts so there would be a lower likelihood of a democratic upset. SLC and PC should really be their own district to gain accurate representation.

Here is a few pictures to show it, one is a zoomed in pic of the SLC metro. Chaffetz is the yellow district.

I guess it just came out hes eyeing running for governor in 2020. I love living in SLC but my god, the majority of these state reps people elect are awful, both parties.
