Fuck! i forgot about the eggs

my friend and i were talking about this a few months ago during paintball and he said his little brother stayed home from a friend's house to try and stand an egg up because it was a certain day and a few minutes later his little brother text him a picture of the egg standing up

i've never tried it but it sounds interesting

there must be more than one day for the egg to be able to do that, not just the equinox

i promise a balanced egg this saturday, and i will take pictures to prove this scientific shit false

^ i accept your offer. loser shall be banished to an eternity of anitaskis as dominatrix

for real though man, i dont know it its true or not. i dont really care that much. just something fun to do/talk about for a while. kind of like santa or tooth fairy. we all know its fake, but why not joke and 'believe'

i did it once. I got it second try too. then i tried for another 10 minutes and didnt get it once. Whatever, at leats i got it once.

i just did it again today, and it didnt work. i used the same egg, same spot, same method for standing it, and it did yesterday, but not today. sweet.

I got it to work on March 23rd.

I know this is a really late reply but i forgot to post the picture before, and i just noticed it was still on my camera.

ok never mind, i will enlighten myself:

The earth's axis is always tilted in (more or less, but it's complicated) the same direction. This is why we have seasons- during the winter we're tilted away (and australia is tilted inwards) and vice versa during the summer. At the equinoxes (spring and fall), seasons in the north and south hemispheres are equal because the earth's rotation axis happens to tilt neither towards the sun nor away from it (it is seen to be tilted only about an axis extending from the sun to the earth) so both hemispheres likewise get the same amount of exposure to the sun.

It is at these equinoxes that the egg trick supposedly works because "gravity is lined up" or some dogshit like that. Unfortunately, it's just not true. Even if you were right on the equator, right on top of a line extending from center mass earth to center mass sun (where the gravity of the earth and sun would be acting only vertically on the egg) there would be much greater forces acting on the egg than the gravitational pull of the sun such as wind, imperfections in the egg or table, gravitational pull of the moon, other planets, and the list goes on.

Additionally, the earth rotates and most people don't live right at the equator, so very few people will ever experience that "balanced" gravity. Even if you lived right on the equator, you would lie on the precise axis of alignment twice per day and otherwise the sun will be exerting a horizontal gravitational pull on the egg rather than a vertical one.

So in summary, it's totally and completely wrong. Search the web if you don't believe me, I'm sure there's a lot of information out there on this myth.

On, 3/21 I saw this thread and we tried it, and it worked. We left the balanced egg on the table and told no one to touch it, when my friend got home it was on it's side and no one touched it. So it must have something to do with the equinox.

I tried it on the 21st or whenever this thread first came up and it worked. the egg stood on end almost instantly and I just tried for 10 minutes with atleast 5 differant eggs and it wouldn't even get close to standing. I believe in this equinox shit, too bad for all the haters out there.
