Fuck global warming...

All I see:

um, pretty much yea. the fact is, all animals and living organisims serve some purpose. that being said some can have a larger impact when taken out of the food chain and such than others. but still all organisms on this earth serve some purpose, evolution and/or god depending on what your belief is, wouldn't allow it, it simply doesn't mkae any sense. new species and creatures occur because older ones evolve in order to survive, so i think any one is an idiot to call a living organism on the earth useless. you might not know or understand it's purpose, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have one.

Scientists didn't know about wind systems? Just completely forgot about them in the equation, eh? It's like we just found out about ocean currents and wind systems and oh yeah, this article is fucking retarded, shit like that isn't overlooked for years. If at all. I'm sick of people going against global warming, people like you. Who gives a flying fuck if global warming is real. It probably is, but even if it isn't, you'd still be a raging dumbfuck to tell me humans aren't fucking up the planet and a raging asshole to not want to do something about it.

I "sound" like that, eh? I don't sound like anything because I'm typing, and it's not in LOL CAPS LOKK, so why don't you take your own advice and cram it. If you take pretty much any environmental class at the university level chances are you'll see all sorts of maps of ocean currents and wind systems, it's not like they're some big secret, they're widely known to have caused or provoked ice ages throughout history and there's no way they were overlooked until now. That simple.

And it doesn't seem a little foolish (read: stupid and gay) of people to spend so much time digging up anti-Global-warming research and propaganda when really what it comes down to is that global warming notwithstanding, you shouldn't fuck up our planet? Couldn't the time you used to "disprove" a widely accepted theory for no reason whatsoever been used to do something constructive instead of basically saying "Global warming doesn't exist, so I'mma do whatever the fuck I want"? Fuck you, buddy.

First off, take it easy. Sit down, have a Diet Coke, and listen to some relaxing music, because believe it or not, it is possible to have an intelligent, calm, and thought provoking discussion online without everyone calling those who disagree with them "fucking idiots" who "don't give a fuck".

Second off, a load of shit is a load of shit whether it is trying to serve a good purpose or not. Either way it still smells like a giant load of shit. Obviously no one should purposly go around trying to pollute the planet, that is just dumb. And I have no problem with recycling, not littering, turning lights off, trying to conserve the amount of gas you use and things like that.

What seriously pisses me off is when certain "genius" ex-politicians who "invented the internet" make a movie with 11 facts in it that turn out not be facts, but widely diputed or even just completely wrong and also say if nothing changes in the next 20 years we will al be dead. It also pisses me off when the entire mainstream media instantly believes the message of this certain ex-politician, "internet inventing", ecological vigilante and proceeds to spew this message whenever possible to the clones of America who believe every word that comes out of the mouths of the talking heads at said media outlets and do no research of their own to confirm these facts just like the media outlets did.

so once the new ice age comes who wants to go skiing with me in ecuador, or howabout the sahara desert? mabye we could start a resort and make bank.

if this actually happens im going to prepare by getting a down jacket, a one piece steeze suit, and 10 kilo's of ramen noodles.

Let me start a list

Poisoning fish with mercury

Digging up natural resources (destroying habitat)

Poisoning our water supplies

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/20080226/pollution-turns-chinese-river-system-red.htm

Poaching animals to extinction

Disrupting the ecosystem

Destroying the ecosystem (restated)

Creating gigantic waste dumps

Burning toxins, including cancergins *sp* into the atmosphere

Overproducing, (ends up wasted)

Using more energy than we have to (contributes to alot of things)

Poisoning animals via drinking water through our chemical waste

overusing resources

over destroying renewable resources faster then they can regrow

Destroying the forests that contribute to the oxygen we breathe

...etc...

Feel free to add on

I think you get the idea

Aight, so I sat down, had some milk instead of a diet coke because I hate that stuff, and even listened to some relaxing music. I'm fully aware that intelligent conversations are possible without insults and profanity and bullshit, but only when you're debating with other intelligent people. When you're debating on NS and you don't recognize your opponent, you have to assume that he is a 12-year-old brickhead who's so self-centered and ignorant that the only way to get through to him is head-beating and outright humiliation of his delusional outlook on the world. That's why I argue on here the way that I do.

All I'm saying is this: Whether or not global warming is real (and obviously I believe that it is), Al Gore popularized one of the single most powerful environmental movements to date. No other theory has motivated such massive quantities of people to change their lifestyle and actually do something about saving our planet. Therefore, if you care about Earth's future, hating on global warming doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

well with global warming, the air from the north and south poles will spread out over nearby continents, and towards mainland, then all the ice will melt, and we will be fucked.

it will get colder for a little while, and then really warm

That's George Carlin. He's a genius....... a comical genius. you have no way of knowing whether he actually believes in what he jokes about or not. if he does believe in that, i just lost a lot of respect for good ol' george.

ummmm, no. all of the frozen water is indeed salt water. This will in fact fuck us over even more since this frozen ice water will melt and flood our costal lands seeping into our ground and fucking up our fresh water reserves and the such.

newsweek had an article a couple months ago about 10 good things that global warming will do for the world. THERE IS NOTHING GOOD ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING.

Sea ice has mild salt concentrations. Polar ice caps, which make up 99% of the frozen water on earth, the other 1% being glaciers in mountains, are freshwater. No matter what, we'll still have fresh water if the ice melts, its not like rain will cease to happen or anything.

Can I delete this now? Everyones inner al gore/anti al gore seems to have gotten a chance to google meaningless charts and talk outta there ass.

Ok?

I think the bickering is over, I don't think every thread that sparks debate needs to be deleted, even if it does get a little out of hand. Whatever though, I don't think anyone's going to cry if it goes.

And now I'm left on the dock to enjoy a J and a beautiful sunset, wondering why I ever wanted to get on that fucking boat to begin with. I have no idea why I wrote that, but it sounded pleasant.

Did you miss 3rd grade science where everyone learns that ice displaces the same amount of water as if it were not frozen. Therefore as the North Pole melts the level of the sea will not increase. This is assuming that you are aware that the North Pole is floating not on a solid land mass.

you are right about this. i am no geologist or climatologist but i have read somewhere that although some parts of Antarctica have lots of snow the majority of it is a barren, cold desert. correct me if im wrong

It is a barren cold desert. Of ice thats up to a mile thick in places. If it all melted it would raise earths sea level by something like 170 feet, as compared to Greenlands contribution of only 24 feet.

I'm not trying to discredit you, this is pure speculation... How did the ice get there? Are there geographic features (giant valleys that would become lakes) that caused the ice to to collect there and freeze?

Accumulations from over 30 million years of snow. Theres some cool shit under the ice there tho, like lakes and mountain ranges, all buried under tons of ice. We've probed a bit using radar from satellites, and the data is actually a little worrisome... lots of lakes seem to be forming under the West Antarctic ice sheet, and the rate of ice flowing from the mainland out to sea is increasing steadily, and outpacing the buildup from snow percipitation. If it disintegrates and sluffs off into the sea we could see some massive changes in the sea levels quite fast.

there is no substitute for researching things you're curious about on your own time instead of asking some random dude on an internet forum to answer it for you. maybe if more people did this there would be less ass-talking in the world.

Are you implying I'm ass-talking? Informative question and answer is better than the usual insult slinging that usually blesses every thread here.

nononononono. i was saying that he should research for himself. not you. and i didn't mean for it to come out that mean sounding in the first place. i just meant that self-research is the best way to hold up an argument. asking for an answer takes away credibility and shows you're lazy.

Shit im sorry that I made you read 3 sentences. I wasn't asking anyone to answer it if you would have read my post to the extent that you understood the nature of it you would have realized the question was there to introduce my speculation. Ever read a newspaper, science magazine, listened to a pundit, or had an educated conversation with anyone? It's this kind of "ass-talking" or as others refer to it as questioning that sparks new ideas, theories, and other questions. I'm not saying my speculation will become a theory I was just saying "what if".

pwned!

actually, we're both just talking past each other. but seriously, self-research is a good thing. nothing to get pissed about my fellow tree hugging homie.

Takes away credibility, yes, but I think it shows a tenacity to find the right answer and learn something. And I dont mind sharing knowledge at all, this is successfully keeping me from writing my research proposal for bio 402. = )

haha yes its so easy to misunderstand people or get pissed on the intrawebz. i think im going to quit responding to posts that i disagree with or piss me off so soon and think about the post because i usually post really aggressive stuff that i wouldnt say to people in real life.

if you don't mind answering that's chill. not that i'm saying you're not knowledgable, but i still say looking it up for yourself is better than asking a random guy on an internet forum. but i agree, at least it shows interest. but yeah, i gotta get back to writing my 10 page research paper myself.

I just gave up, I slapped a curse word near the end in my explanation for why we dont have results yet from our lab (we suck at RT-PCR evidently). We'll see what my TA thinks of that.

yeah man. i have to write a paper (differnt from the 10 pager mentioned above) on the pros and cons of owning a business for my business ethics class and since it's an online essay submission i'm contemplating just submitting that scene from billy madison where that guy's playing jeopardy and gets asked the ethics question.

Honestly, I'm just happy people talk about this shit now. Regardless of the outcome on here, its raising awareness on the issue and thats enough for me. It makes you guys go and look shit up in order to aviod getting flamed on here and thats a good thing IMO. Education is always a good thing!
