alpine racing has existed for like 100+ years and the sport has massively grown since then. freeskiing has really only been around for roughly 6 or 7 years. believe me, when freeskiing has been around for 100 years freeskiers will be getting paid more.

well lets see, racers go fast around turns, we got fast of 60 foot kickers and 20 foot pipe tranny's. and let see tanner goes 60-70 miles per hour switch and hit 120 cataclismic gap. bode goes 70-87 miles per hour and doesnt hit a 120 gap.

good stuff little_freerider. the thing with park/pipe vs racing is that newschool is far more unique. in racing, the best racers are the best because they are willing to work harder than the other guy at all the little things. and when you get to that sort of level of racing its the little things that make the difference, not tecnique or skill because everyone is skiing basically the same and are all really skilled. with newschool, yes the best work the hardest, but there is soo much more variety. instead of in a world cup race where the guy who has the best wax job wins, in newschool it is the guys who throws it down the most, but its not like everyone is gonna go do the same run and tricks and the guy who sticks them cleanest wins. its a great sport because someone can throw a trick no one has even imagined to win the event. that is because this sport is always evolving and getting better, and progressing, and from where i sit, other than ski technology, there is no progression in racing.

half the people on here who are always hating on racing have never done it at a competitive enough level to appreciate what it means. racing is all about flow, which is the reason alot of people do it, you traing hard and then when it comes time for your run, its like you blank out, and it just happens for you, its cool that you can train your body hard enough to have it know what its doing solely based on instict and muscle memory. and ive been more scared racing that ive ever been freestyling, its gnarly in its own right, bode might not launch 120 foot gaps, (even though he launches 80-90 feet in dh races), but you guys dont know what it feels like to hit b-netting at 90 km/h, having that looming over your head all the time is gnarly enough. watch hermans fall from the nagano downhill, and tell me racing is for pussies. and just so you all know, they had to make bode room with the straightest edge guy on the us ski team his first season on the world cup, because he blazed as well... looks like him and tanner have more in common than some people would care to think.

bode miller brought shaped skis to the market back in the early 90s. without him racing on shaped skis, they would have never emerged on the market. thats right, youd be on straight sticks with a twin tip without bode. for chads gap you go like 40-50 mph, not 80 like downhill racers. There are jumps in downhill courses that dwarf chad's and they get hit alot faster. once again, tanner looks really good in the AIR and on RAILS, not on the snow. watch yearbook and see tanner gape on a pretty simple double drop.

 
It's rediculous to claim that one person made that big of an impact on skiing. We would not be using straight skis whether or not Bode Miller was ever born. I'm not saying anything bad about racing, but he did not change the sport that much.

bode brought shaped skis into racing which is wat got all the major companies into designing new shaped skis...later twins included. Bode has had a huge impact on skiing in general, not just freesking.

That said the bogarts have valid points promoting tanner as cooler, better, more influencial to them.....but it would simply be foolish to think that he has had a larger influence than bode on sking in gerneral. Mabey that is not the point you are trying to make. either way you say "fuck bode i don't want anything about him on this site", yet your thread about him is the only thread i see about him right now.

there are no "did u see bode's sick race yesterday" threads.

So i really don't see why you felt compelled to make a thread about the lack of a need for information about him to be posted on ns

no, really, bode started showing up to races with shaped skis when everyone else was on straight skis and he started smoking people, so the major ski companies jumped at the idea of shaped skis.

that is definatley not true, atleast for me, i got a NASTAR bronze at Sunlight Mountain when I was 7, so lay off man... gosh i hate when people hate without knowing, NASTAR is the definition of racing competition...

the bottom line is this: It would take Bode less than a year in a park to learn how to do everyting Tanner can do. I seen him do 720's on video. Tanner could practice racing for 10 years and never be as fast as Bode, and certainly not as diverse, winning slaloms and downhills. That still doesn't make either a better skier then the other. They should just get baked together and squash the whole thing, that is one of the few things they have in common.

Lets see, # of Americans who have hit Chad's gap succesffully throwing 7's and 9's-Candide, Cattabriga, C.R, Collins Bros... etc... # of racers who have done what Bode did this year. None

 
^ dude there are like 20 other racers from Europe that are just as capable as Bode.... they almost beat him this year. In fact, many of them beat Bode in the single event world championships. What bode did was cool, but he is not a god now for it... ANd he couldnt hit Chads switch after 1 year...

Bode is great for our sport on all levels. He is an amazing skier and a great guy. Watch his interview last week and you'll see. He's good at what he does and he doesn't need to go and school you're ass in the park. On that note, give him a week and he'll be throwing down as hard as anyone out there. He has no interest though, so it really doesn't matter. Skiing as a whole is underpublicized in the US, so people talking bode down is the same as talking down skiing. Grow up and realize that we're all doing the same thing here, skiing, and isn't it great.

 
dude you guys all need to chill the fuck out pull you heads out of yout asses and relize that this whole beef was started by tanner and if you talk to bode he would tell you that he has emence respect for anyone who skis whether its racing park or bumps it doesnt matter we all love same sport and we dont need juvenile arguments over such un important subject. also people on this site need to stop being so into themseves because bode and tanner are equally great in their own aspects of the sport and both deserve equal respect for what they have done. i mean at least any americans on this site should be proud that for the first time in 22 years an american won the world cup overall.

yea i dunno what is with people on this site and racers... they all seem to think that if they only spent like a week in the park they would school the best park skiers in the world.. non of you know how long Tanner practiced to become as good as he is... he skis prolly on average 6 days a week for 10 months a year... for every year ssince he was 16... and before than he skied almost as much... you become THAT good in a week, or even a month, or even a year or 2...
