FT leg width

Potentially a dumb question, but I recently tried on a friends dropkick pros and while they fit my foot perfectly, they were extremely tight around the legs. Is there any variance in "leg width" between different models? Or would the only solution be going up in size? (In this case id rather not get FTs)

You can adjust the upper cable or even get a longer cable to give a looser fit at the top. This may help you or if the shape is not quite right you can stand the cuff more upright to give more calf room or you can even stretch the cuff to give more space. Plenty of options rather than upsizing.

Do the little plastic parts play any roles?

The longer pieces with two tabs on are used to change the forward lean. Forward lean can often be used to creat more calf space.
