it's almost as if you can't read but still somehow know half of what I wrote.

many many ar variants have selective fire and are assault rifles. unless you specify civilian ar then you can't fault someone for calling it an assault rifle.

straight from the AR15 wiki

"Colt then started selling the semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle as the Colt AR-15 for civilian sales in 1963 and the term has been used to refer to semiautomatic-only versions of the rifle since then"

ar15 = semi auto

you even managed to screw yourself in your final sentence. "unless you specify civilian ar then you can't fault someone for calling it an assault rifle". this sentence assumes that civilians cannot own assault rifles. youre implying that civilians are only allowed to own AR15s, which i have just established, are only semi auto. civilians are indeed allowed to own assault rifles.

in short, civilians can own assault rifles. ar 15s are not assault rifles because ar 15s are semi auto only while assault rifles are select fire. shut up canada, leave the guns to us, we know them better than you
 
Why does this thread have to happen every time a gun goes off on school grounds? It might as well be considered a repost...
