arent verizon phones not part of the gsm network so they dont have the same sim cards as all the other countries
 
that is false. i went on south america snow sessions in argentina and put a movistar sim card ( bought at a convenience store) into the phone and it worked. However, before you leave the US you must call verizon and tell them you want your phone to be globally unlocked so you can insert any sim card into the phone and it will work.http://www.letstalk.com/blackberry-storm-verizon-wireless .... read the last sentence in the details about the phone.
 
blackberries do, as well as any "world phone" verizon sells

hell, I had to go to verizon the other day because my tour stopped reading my sim
 
This isn't technically an unlocked phone.

It's CDMA locked to verizon, and they let you use international sim cards with it when you're abroad.
