Frontflip or backflip first?

Hey guys so I started skiing park last year, I can 360 and 540 comfortably, and Im looking to stomp a front and backflip this year. I can double on either off of a diving board, so I know the motions pretty well, but Im wondering which is easier to do first.

+K for good answers, -K for pee in the snows butt or some bullshit like that

front flips are "safer" if you don't make the full rotation.

do whatever you feel more comfortable trying. a really poppy kicker will be better for a back fip, and flatter takeoff with more drop will be easier for a frontflip.

backflips are easier because the momentum of your skis when they take off the jump will naturally throw you up for a backflip

Imo, if you can do a legit gainer, traveling forward a fairly far distance, like 5+ feet on say a tramp, then you should have no problem doing a backflip on skis...the feeling is identical. The hardest thing about them is committing to them, but once you do that theyre honestly super easy. But as for our first flip, I would say find a small drop, maybe a cat-track, with a big open landing and some pow, then launch it a few times, spin it, ect. until you are really comfortable with it. Then stagger your feet, and throw it like youre summersaulting really hard, and make sure you stay tucked up so that you dont stop your rotation in midair. Frontflips are much less scary but actually a lot harder, and in my opinion should be learned first so that you can appreciate both of these facts.

Not trying to hijack the thread but i have Spk pro's and theyre pretty heavy, will this effect the rotation of a back?

im gonna try a backflip when it snows. cause it feels more natural. just go with what feels best. and its best to make a jump somewhere and land into a shitload of pow..so you dont really get hurt.

i am having the same problem and decided to make a lip off of a cornice on a pow day to try and kick front. or i will make a jump in the pow and try the back.

Front flips off 8 foot drops on powder days....
I say this only because I'm far less intimidated doing front flips off the drop into foam pit than jump into foam pit. And powder = way softer landing.
But I hear backflips are way easier cause you can spot your landing. I'll probably try front flips though... cause I can already do them standing with my ski boots on...

backflips are a BILLION times easier than frontflips, ok not really but youll find that theyre easier to land once you get both down

Backflip, find a steep lip onto a bank and just send it off that. If you choose one with a pretty vert lip you only have to flip 270 degrees to come back to your feet. Just don't huck it too hard and smack your head on the lip...

Backflips are easier. I learned how to back way before front because it's just the natural rotation when going off a jump. Front flips you have to fight the rotational inertia of that the jump puts on you.

if you have access to something steeper than your average jump eg the bottom of a halfpipe, then that is really good for backflips. try them with a mate, like say if you do one i will or other way round.

i did front flips first.

cuz i'm a wuss and going backwards is scaring for some reason.

but backies are easier than fronts. momentum is with you, and you can spot your lander right away.

fronts aren't very scary, backflips are pretty easy, once you do one, you'll very likely have the balls to do the other. go on a soft day, try something, then you'll be set to keep going.
