Wellllll I think its super sick. Good angle and quality sequence, but the fact that he clears half of the rail makes it alot less sick to me, still sick but I have also seen a ton o people do it. Good shot though still a hard trick.

I was looking at it earlier today and I was in aw. I don't get how someone can lip 270, and then still come out switch... that must take major control.

270 lip slide? first hit?? are u kidding me? jf houle is the MAN. suuuuch a sick shot. plus he lands half way down the rail which means he wasnt exactly going slow...

How is landing halfway down less sick? IMO, that would be an ugly trick if he did it slow in order to slide more of the rail, it would look way too forced. For that trick, going fast is definitely the most natural way of doing it. But, I'm one of those who would always rather see people go fast and commit to a solid trick than ease into and squeak through. Again, just my .02

That rail is set with no lip complete street style. I don't think that trick could be done much better and used more of the rail. I mean look at the 2nd frame he's already olly'd up like 2-3 feet from the take off. I don't know it could probably be a little stylier but looks pretty dope to me. Plus I love Felix's pics, always very good contrast.

i really dont think i would be. i havent seen a lip 270 on a rail that tall with no lip. thats as good as it gets. when you got somthing better then lets hear your opinion

yea its a sick rail. I was looking at it last week and it is crazy. single pipe that high up and with no lip, you have to give credit where it is due.

yeah i was there on the last couple of days.

its one scary rail i dont no if when he did the stairs where all wonky like they where when i saw them but just skiing up to it is scary its like waist height.

gnarly stuff

so sick. look how high above the rail he was when he was spinnin. the fact that there wasnt a lip meant he had to hop that which is sick

Alright well I'm gonna start this post by saying I think it's sick as hell and I have all the respect in the world for JF

But I would like to point out that not one person has said they don't really like it cause it doesn't really look that pretty. That in itself is a good thing, it's good that people respect good skiing. But when you see somebody do a tech trick off a jump and it doesn't have a whole lot of style people beak off saying you shouldn't even do it if it doesn't look good.

So what I'm trying to figure out is why "spin to win" so to speak is more acceptable on rails than it is on jumps?

Thoughts?

teh amount of time spent in the air off a jump give you way more time to make it feel like you are actually doing something else tehn spinning as fast as you can and make it look better. while on a rail, you dont have much time before your skis land on the rail so you have to spin a bit faster..

and maching onto a rail is nto sick when it's a down rail. and believe me from what i see in this shot, he wasnt going nearly as fast as most of the other lips 270 i saw on a tall down rial this winter.

That's kind of what I was trying to say. I never understood the 'spin to win' theory, I've always been from the camp that you should make every part of the trick work as best as it can. Don't sacrifice a different part of the trick just so you can spin another 180 onto the rail. That reflects a comment someone else made along the lines of 'that takes serious control to spin 270 on then revert the other direction.' He is able to do it (come off fakie the other direction) because he does the trick within it's limits. Ok, that sounds weird, but it's how I think of doing different tricks. Different obstacles are best suited for different tricks, and it's very obvious when someone does a trick that's perfect for the obstacle because it's a trick that makes everyone say "Holy shit!!" For the trick he is doing, with a difficult 270 on, the nonchalant revert to fakie is just perfect.

Paraphrased: perfect trick for that obstacle. Not too much, not too little.

JF kills it and thats a hard trick but........

He disasters half the rail, hard trick but it would be WAY fresher if went slow and used his ollie to get him on the rail instead of his speed, Thats not "squeeking" through, thats making it as hard as it can be therefore way sicker, and obviously theres no take off, Its almost in 2008 and people should know that you NEVER need a lip on a down rail. Sick none the less

its impressive, but he doesnt really ollie, he just french skier hops like hes on rollerblades. Impressive and hard, i mean theres no jump and its a high rail, but i think it coulda been done with more style.

wow, some more 9thward love once again coming from you hahaha. but really, JF does not even rollerblade, he mtbikes and skateboards...

Wait, why is a "spin to win" discussion coming in? What has he won, who was he competing against? Since when is 270 too much spin?

Come ON people...

such a sick shot, I pretty much agree with what everyone has said so far. We really do need a full size for download tho, I'm in desperate need of a new background

Such a good shot, and for those who say it sux that he spins half way down, can you spin 270 to a down rail? you go a wee way down, and i would expect even more so for lipslide 270.

nollie would be real cool on to it

super sick trick, but i think i'm gonna get sick of it as the front page.  oh well, i'll have to wait it out.

that add's some tech in my opinion(and balls) to be going into a stairset fast and lip 270ing it would be pretty sketchy but he gets it done

Almostaskier, you're right, not really involved here, but it got brought up and I elaborated on it. It is sort of involved though, because there are some comments saying 'it is perfect how he did it' and there are some saying 'he should have gone slower and spun harder and slid more of the rail.' I was just trying to state my opinion that hucked spins, off a jump or on/off a rail, are not as fun to watch as smooth, slow spins, such as what is displayed on the front page right now. I'm bored and ranting, it's what the internet is all about.

Moreover, it's October and I'm jonesing to ski super bad, so I need to occupy myself in some manner.

We all still agree it's a pretty sweet shot, so yay.
