Front Page - Needed?

We were just talking about the front page (the one where you first login), and are wondering if it's really needed.

Personally, I just have the premium content page bookmarked and log in on the side. The first page seems like an unnecessary step to entering the site.

What do you think? Should we keep it?

its debatable, i like the login page, but for the sites sake, i say get rid of it, because i remember back in the day when i saw that login page, i just moved onto another ski site, and if new comers saw the premium content right then and there, it would be very attractice

yes I agree with sean on this one. I remember it was about 3 months after seeing the site that I decided to come back after running away from the login.

Yeah login pages usually scare me off. There's no way I would have logged in if I didn't personally know you. I like having the login page, but I think more people would surf the site if you didn't have it.

This should also entail auto-login for existing members.

right on, I think it's kinda cool but yeah, I guess it's not really neccessary, it is good just to get right into it. There'd have to be some kind of link somewhere to take you to the e-mail part but that's fairly easily done aye

When I first came I saw the signin page, didn't even log in as a guest, just registered as PhattTim right off and then found out it had like a forum and stuff, pretty random, haha.

duncan, i dont think autologin could work unless harvey whipped out some super code(which he very well could) cause i know without the site telling me which threads have new posts, id be going no where fast, so i need to login everytime to see which threads have new posts

i think it should open up without the login page, just have the login to the left how it is when you click the logout link.

i think it should stay...it's like the gateway...it makes the site seem exclusive and sweet. i would def. not get rid of it.

I got so battered last night that I had to send my clients around the corner so I could run behind a tree to be sick. Unfortunately I fell into a snow hole under a pine tree and the impact of falling into an eight foot deep trench made me vomit on myself-love Bawbsy....

I definitly think we should bring back the front page. I loged on today and freaked out, the site looked like shit (as much like shit NS can look like). I like the clean, open, welcoming feeling of the front page. please bring it back. And the home page looks a little cluttered too. Those boarders are too baby-blue-busy like. Please bring back the front page Harvey!!!

the current page seems cluttered. I liked the login page. had a nice presentation to it. just like a cover on a book. a cool pic might get me to explore further. I'm fine with it this way, but I think it looked nicer before

I am with all the people that want the login page back, but want the 'Guest Login' link a little bit bigger so everyone notices it.

The reason we took it down was because it really isn't necessary. You can log in from any page within the site, so the front page was just one more step in the process.

Without the page, it's better for guests because they don't get scared off.

Before we took it down, every post was saying we should. Then we took it down, and every post but one says to put it back.

We may put it back afterall I guess.
