From Tom And Simon

lame team americas edits have been awesome two years in a row and the judging just sounds downright lame for a skiing contest

well then the sickest edit of SKIING should win

why not just have a buncha people make videos about stuff that is not skiing since the actual skiing in the edit doesnt matter....

the skiing matters, but there are a few more categories that also affect the score. i really dont think people can say who they think should win until they see all the edits.

Yeah the scoring system was really dumb. It should be about skiing, not the movie.
but i guess it's Jon's comp so he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.

Pros need to get some real problems, There all acting like children... Personally I'm glad Simon isn't coming back, he's a douche

i agree. but after seeing team americas, its hard to believe that a chug life'esq edit with little skiing could beat it...

I think people are missing the point here. Wallisch isn't bitching that he didn't win, he's trying to tell Team America's side of the conflict, only one side of which had been hitherto publicized; and he's voicing his complaints not about the results but about the judging system, and more importantly the fact that the competitors didn't know how the competition was being judged while they were competing. And that, no matter how you slice it, is ridiculous; you can't have a two-week film competition in which the competitors don't know what the judges are looking for, and then get pissed when the competitors feel slighted.
The competitors were slighted; had the teams, including Team America, known how they were going to be judged coming into the event, the event would have been much different, and much fairer. Instead of teams making their edits and then being surprised by the weird, all-new judging system that their edit doesn't fit into at all, they would have constructed the edits with the criteria in mind.
It's like writing an essay for an English class, but your teacher doesn't give you the full assignment handout or the rubric beforehand; she just tells you to write about your book, and then she grades you on the criteria stipulated in the assignment handout and the rubric that you didn't have any knowledge of while you were writing said essay. Sounds ridiculous, right? That's because it is. Can you blame Wallisch for being upset at that system?

Anyone who says it is bad or unfair that Jon makes money on this event is making an invalid claim because:

1. He puts a lot of work into this. He doesn't just put his name on it and let other people run it. He does a shit ton of planning/execution for this event and should be compensated for it. While he is working for months on this event, other people are skiing the Dew Tour or filming for segs.

2. He is giving back to the skiing community by letting us get stoked on the best riders, progressing the sport, widening the sport acknowledgment, etc.

3. I don't think I have ever seen in a video blog or any other video that Jon claims this is only done for other people hence the "philanthropist" term some people used previously in this thread.

If you decided to put months of hard work into an event to please the riders and sponsors while still having as much fun as possible, I would hope you would be compensated in both intrinsic and extrinsic ways.

actually i dont know if you were aware of this but they all got taxis paid for by jon for urban and getting around, so...

It seems like Wallisch and Simon have the right to mad about the judging cause it seemed unorganized and whack... although they did act foolish and should have written a more formal apology instead of blaming jon. You are completly ignorant if you think any of the money that was used to expense this event was from jon's pockets. I would be saddened if simon and todd did not attend joss over this drama bullshit and on the other side if jon did not allow them to attend. Didnt simon win this shit a few years back?

FUCK THIS DRAMA SHIT... LET'S SKI!!!!

Yea i think you could. To go with your analogy, it sucks to receive an assignment back with a less than what you wanted grade. However, I think you can't blame it on the teacher (Jon) in once you reach a certain experience point (pro). I'm pretty sure the website and a videoblog of Jon told the judging format. BUT if you still don't understand and are going into a competition as big as JOSS, don't you think you could talk to the graders and Jon to really see what they want? Get more clarification so things like this don't happen. It is like have a final paper due in a class, if you aren't completely sure on the criteria, ask. Or else you are asking to fail and will have a hard time backing up the reasoning behind the failure.

By the way, I got an F earlier on a paper because I did not understand the criteria. I redid it and got an A+ (claim). I understand why America might be pissed but with 3 big competition skiers on the team, I would think they could get an understanding on what it takes to know a comp format.

to put it into simpler terms... Jon criticized simon and tom for false shit, tom and simon r backing themselves up, and saying fuck JOSS next year we arent coming back
But simon and tom are acting like ungrateful ass holes and definitely had an opportunity to thank Jon at some point, bull shit

This comes down to just how clear the competition rules were. Apparently, the criteria posted on the website were not the criteria used in the final judging. So to a certain point, you can fault the less proactive teams for not getting clarification, but it sounds like Jon screwed up pretty badly with making the criteria and judging system clear, to the point where it's really more his fault as the event organizer than Team America's. Of course, none of us were there, so we can only speculate. But from what I've heard, it sounds like it was an error on the part of the event organizer, not irresponsible competitors.
To further extend the metaphor, though if you're unsure of the criteria of an assignment then it is your responsibility to go to the teacher and find out, if the teacher just doesn't tell the class at all or grades with a different rubric than what she handed out to you, then she is at fault much more than you, the student, are.
You make a valid point, though. It calls into question the extent to which each side is at fault here. I could be totally wrong.

That was intense to read, but first off i think that simon should just be grateful that he can go to such a great event, and i think that team america could have just given an apology to jon and worked it out like that. But i also think that Jon should not have made that blog post and just talked to team america.Had this drama not been created, no body would even care about the leak. Simon needs to chill and so does Tom...No one should ever forget, your here to ski and thats it and whatever happens doesnt matter since you at least were lucky enough to ski!

Good thing they can redo JOSS and change their edit so they do it according the criteria right??
The judging criteria wasss put out, but it wasn't what the actual judging was. So you can't really blame the riders at all for that...

Yeah you too. Guess it's just a guessing game from computers at home. Either way pumped to see the videos! Keep killing it Jon! and all others.

They could have come back next year with a vengeance. Oh wait. They blew that already by being pricks.

Another big thing I feel is the fact that htey put out the vid. Thats what really started getting things rolling. If they had not talked to Jon after the comp it would of blown over, but when they posted the vid that apparently crossed the line.

Another big portion of hte drama was the fact that a edit was posted. Had it been the winning team things would of been different. I really dont think that America was trying to undermine Jon's comp and make it any less awesome (which is hard to do anyways) I truly think that Tom and Simon were aware we were stoked to see an edit, and they figured if they are so stoked, lets let them see it. If anything it makes me more stoked for the rest of the edits.

People are just reading into to much what was done (not thanking jon, a edit being posted) I truly think that they wanted us to see the edit, they put almost two weeks into it. Just because you want to let people see an edit a little bit earlier doesn't mean you hate the entire comp.

"we had no idea it was going to be judged that way" - i'm pretty sure there's a video blog episode that shows jon explaining the judging to everyone...

you obviously have no idea about how big companies handle sponsoring, but still you keep on talking about something you dont have a clue of, thats kind of sad.

That guyt act like he know everything, ask any of the riders about how Jon and his crew are threatening the riders during JOSS. I know Jon do whatever he can and more then that to keep the guys happy, have you even seen any of the blogs? Picking the riders gear/luggage at the airport and fly them in to a afterski with a heli with all free drinks and shit. Do you see that at any other event?

And you see him working his ass off shaping jumps, guinea pig all the features, asking the riders all the time if all is good and shit. Giving to charity from the event for new young riders and shit like that.

this is by far the most typical thing an american would do. I can't imagine seeing any other country bitch so much. such a sense of entitlement it makes me sick, and its not only in skiing. to be honest, the skiing in the team america edit was really nice, but nothing that new or fun to watch. I thought dumont was lucky to get invited this year, should have brought other freshies in. The supposed humour in their video was just stupid and I didn't laugh at it. OH and also thier song got old after the first 20 seconds.

but actually team america really charged hard sorry about all other shit I said

so, what your saying is... Jons a businessmen, who incorporates creating stoke in the ski world, progressing the sport, and establishing the sickest event of the year... and at the same time, making money to live off and live a lifestyle....

tell me, where did he go wrong? Hes an entrepreneur, and is on an amazing path. Someone broke his rules, of his business, by being selfish, rude, ungreatful and disrespectful.. Jon has every right to be pissed off, and team america have no right what so ever.... they knew from the begginning of the season that they would be at joss, and planned their other filming around that... to complain about missing out on filming opportunites is BULLSHIT! its like, sammy didnt win x-games, and goes around bitching that he shouldnt of gone coz he didnt win and got nothing out of it and missed valuable filming time... i mean, its not gona happen.... fuck of team america, fuck you for hating Jon, and more importantly, fuck Wallisch and Dumont for being little bitches and ruining our sport and turning it into bitching politics

Even I was aware of it.. he posted it waay long ago on the Joss site... Again.. i don't know what happened, but some things in the explanation really don't match..

Yeaahh... but whatever, the comp's over, tom and simon aren't coming back, winners are chosen, so theres nothing really more to talk about

hopefully more of these youngins will idolize alex schlopy's MO: show up, keep ya mouth shut, whip it REAL hard (sw wobbly 12???)
