From A Real Christian's Perspective.

The more I think about religion, the more absurd it sounds.

How can someone believe in it?...

Religion is for the frightened and stupid. Religion is bullshit. Face reality and grow up :)

No I haven't read the whole thread only the first page and the op and they're are some great points. First off I might as well say that I am catholic I go to church every Sunday and try to live a logos life and not sin. However that is impossible for myself I am no saint and I am willing to bet no one on this site is. I am also willing to bet that not one of my friends would know my religion this is because I don't talk about it I don't state my beliefs because of the common misconception there is about Christianity as a whole. Now I have been raised catholic so you can say that I don't know any better which is sort of true. I really questioned my faith a few years ago and then I really looked into it and it is something that I can honestly say that I believe in. And it is something that no one should be forced to believe There are some parts that I do not be leave in Such as confession, I feel there is no need to confess what I have done wrong to someone who could be worse. (I get this from the whole priest sex scandal). Now if I has sinned I confess to the person that matters. I guess you can say I pick and choose as you have earlier. Also the misconception of ignorance to other faiths is something I hate. I have studied Islam for one of my classes and can say that that religion is so misinterpreted in America it is crazy. And I think it is sad that people will choose to hate on anyone for what they believe. We are all entitled to think on our own and no one should make fun of or hate on someone for their religion.

Here's my opinion, as somebody that was raised catholic but has grown apart from it and now is just not sure.I think all the different sects and religions throughout history have gotten too wrapped up in who's right, who's wrong, and their differing opinions on some matters in what's moral and what isn't. I think they lost sight of what their religion was trying to accomplish in the first place. Any religion that would explicitly say that people who are not of that religion must killed, I would say that religion has failed. I think religion was originally just a tool to become more in touch with your own spirituality, and connect with other like minded people just trying to share that spirituality, and for whatever reason that got mutilated into the kind of conflicts that you see today between the different religions. I think religion was not something that was meant to explain the origins of the universe or something like that. It was merely the science of trying to better ones' self not as a theory of everything that could be used as grounds to strike someone down.

As to whether a god exists or not, I don't now. I certainly believe in something bigger than us. Maybe a god, or maybe some supernatural force that catalyzed the creation of the universe. What that something is we can't even begin to venture a guess at, because as I'm sure has been mentioned, we don't even know whether there was a beginning to the universe or whether it has simply always existed.

I think you need to grow up,

Maybe some day your shirts are going to fit you!

You're just so damn smart aren't you. Please, teach me how to be intelligent and brave, I am nothing but a frightened soul who has turned to religion to run away from my problems. You on the other hand, youve got it all figured out, dont you? Maybe i should worship you instead.

get off you high horse you pretentious fuck, along with anyone else that posted a comment similar to this.

Well, luckily for you, you don't have to brave! Just intelligent (but only on the most basic level). It will be difficult to teach you how online, but I would first recommend taking a course in critical reading. Then I would like you to logically look at your life based on your experiences, and see how your decisions were rooted in reality. Apply the logic of your life, and newfound ability to be critical, and take a look at religion! Woohoo! You've done! You are now not a retard! Don't worship me, that would be dumb, you clearly have a long way to go...

First off, I would like to point out that im not even a Christian. However, I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, where there is, quite literally, a church on every street. Ive grown up going to church every Sunday, and Ive been extremely involved in the church's youth group in the past. About 80% of my friends have done the same, I know very few people who are atheists.
But, like you, I see many flaws in Christianity. I didnt like being told how to live, and, being obsessed with science since a young age, the bible stories never made sense to me when i was younger. These, along with many other "flaws", disproved Christianity for me at a young age.
Not religion though. Every religion I can think of bases itself (or used to) around the same thing: there is a higher power of some kind, and love is good.
I believe that there is a "higher power", but in my opinion it is something to do with the most fundamental laws of physics. Religions are based off of this "power", whatever it is.
Read the bible. Many of the messages and lessons in it are the exact same as the ones in self improvement books, the exact same as the ones preached by Ghandi, MLK, Mother Teresa, or whatever other world-changing person you can think of. "religion" is onto something, whether you (or the people who believe in it, for that matter) realize it, no matter how much the message may be con strewed by thousands of years of bullshit.
My point is, you are not better, or more intelligent than someone because you aren't religious. People bashing Christianity tend to be the same ones who preach tolerance, so please, do that.

As far as the whole "religion is good for morals" thing.

I have fucking dope morals compared to a lot of the religious, and at least comparable to most. I'm not a fake person, that's a big one.

I live by the golden rule. I go out of my way to help strangers instead of judging them(um, that shit doesn't happen much in religion)

Basically I'm doing all the good parts of religion(that most religious suck at) without having to believe all the bullshit.

It's like the best of both worlds. I don't need religion to teach me how to live. If people just cared more about their fellow man people wouldn't be such dicks to each other. IF people realized we are all connected maybe they'd help each other a little more. I don't need some book to tell me that if I look at porn my dick will turn into a pillar of salt though.

idk if serious, but she really did some wrong things. i know a doctor who was helped in her organization for a month or so and everything was about dying people. they wouldnt help sick people, just give dying people a nicer death.

i dont say its bad, but i dont think thats awesome

Maybe you should stop listenong to Rush you uninformed conservative dumbass. First of all, I was catholic and stopped attending church due to the masagonistic bullshit.(don't try to say that catholicism is not a christian religion because were did they all branch from?) So, this proves that it isn't just Islam that is masoginistic. Also, in the same way you discount WBC because it is a cult, Islam discounts the radical groups that give Islam a bad name(Taliban, Islamic Brotherhood, etc.) They don't kill people that don't convert. I know a ton of people from Saudi-the most important Islamic state- that do not believe or follow Islam. Christianity shuns as does Islam if you do not convert. So, the are essentially both mosaginistic religions with cults that give their religion a bad name. Finally, the reason that christianity gets bashed more is because we are more exposed to Christianity and therefore recognize the vast number of problems in it.

P.S. I'm not a screaming liberal who is anti-war on terror. I am a moderate who leans left socially and is dead-center on economic issues.

Sparknotes: Retarded conservative christian bashes Islam. Moderate counters and proves that the grounds on which he determines Islam as extreme can be applied to christianity.
