My problem w/ racing is the generally snobbery and shit that gets shoved down kids throats.
I went to camp of champions this summer.. and if anyone has been, they know we are right next to 2 racecamps.
Anyways.. on the good days, I would run laps on the tbar, bad days id hike it. The days i ran laps, i made a point of being a bastard and asking every racer i went up the tbar with questions. The mass majority of kids (8-17) years of age, either a: Didnt want to be at racecamp at all, because it was nazi hell. or b: didnt mind it, but would have much rather been at freeski camp. The overwhelming majority of them didnt like there coaches, and found the environment to be far too competitive.
My next point is this. Racing will die. The x games is whats on the cherios box these days (as sterbenz said..).. and theres nothing special about gate whacking. Gate whacking = groomed man made piste skiing. Everyone dresses in tight assed suits (AHHH the hideousness) to see who can go faster on terrain thats built for speed.. yuck. Real 'racing' should take place on extreme terrain.. this has become a joke.
Skiing is about having fun also. Racing defies this from the observations i have made over the years. I go to one of those dinky private ski clubs.. its all about whos racing team does best, whos the best, best times, winning etc etc. Sure newschool skiing has its competition, but i can go to the fucking park with my buddies, enjoy a day of hits.. and never end up bickering over whos better. Wayyy to much snobbery and competition involved. Old fags shove 8 year old kids into racing to furfill dreams that they have could achieve when they were kids.. and create monsters.
