Freezing when seeing a popular skier

Over Thanksgiving break, I was chilling in DT Breck (from Iowa). A few friends and I were chilling at a bar table getting some munch when Keegan Kilbride (rocking two fat tall ts and baggy ass snow pants so it was confirmed) pulls up and sits at the table directly next to us. Immediately I started freaking out (granted I was baked as shit) and figuring out my entry line. My friends had no idea why I was obsessing so much because they rarely get on NS so I was a bit discouraged. Unfortunately he dipped out much sooner than I anticipated and I was left in his wake of style. I realize these type of guys probably don't get too much notice so fans are humbling, but in the moment I couldn't convince myself. A similar situation happened with JAH SPRIGGS the next day at key. He stared into my soul after a rail line briefly, dreads glistening in the son. I got half a word out before french frying down the run. I think a large part of it comes from me not being around these level of skiers in Iowa and the intimidation that comes with it. I did however meet Jossi and Wacko when I was working at key one time and that was tight /claim.

Anyone else have similar stories? Stories where you met the skier?

The guy at my local DRYSLOPE who can throw a backflip off the tiny jump there told me to get the fuck out of the way once.

theyre just people that happen to be insanely good at skiing lol.

i kicked it with a lot of pros over the last few years (mega huge claim, i dont think any of you will be as cool as me) and theyre just people lol. No different from you and your buddies. Shoulda went up to the homie and said yerrroooooooooooooo.

but i do remember freaking out after i met LJ strenio when i was like 17

i remember last year at r2r i was smokin a joint outside with pan pan and dom laporte, jeremy took like 2 hits off it and was like "woww man this american weed is not for me this shit is crazy strong" or something like that hahaha. French/French canadians are funny dudes.

Was 1 chair away from riding with T Hall and Taylor Seaton this summer at Hood, and i regret not finding a way onto the chair with them, my one piece of advice i got from T Hall in person, was that poles are always handy in a lift line, and thus the death of me trying to go no poles in the park

dude dont even freak lol I met Bobby Brown and Gus Kenworthy when they were filming at alyeska last spring I geeked out and hadnt realized it was them until I was on the lift with them and I was just like holy shit my idols are here

I would bet the weed had something to do with it. If I'm high af and get in a nervous situation, my brain goes full retard and I can't speak lol. I probably would have done the same

I met Andy Parry at Tell a Friend Tour in 2012 after I crashed getting onto a rope tow infront of him and then everyone made fun of me at the pizza party afterwards. That was like my first experience with the park culture lol

I smoked with Magnus, Lupe, D.Hanka Once, @ C.O.C 2 summers ago. we all got super baked, it got quiet and awkward, until we started bumping tunes then everyone was vibing. Its really cool hanging with pros, Keep calm and don't fan boy. in the end they are just ppl like you and I. treat them like the homiez you've always had and you'll vibe!

gotta just pro shout out when you see um, bumped into mistah collie and banks at SV a couple of times but no convos. Nearly shit the bed when i bumped into Colby West in the Whissy village and he gave me a quick fist bump in passing, i think i was 13 and his parts were all the rage in the recent MSP movies. Was one chair behind Thall and Heni at Hood a couple summers back, they stay smokin the loud pack Ill tell ya that much but the boys and I were buzzin when they said waddup at the base of the lift, was surprised to find that Thall wasn't speaking in all caps to us.

Pretty sure I was the only AM who made it to Beartooth summer session on the first day... Quite the experience for a Midwest rat who never witnessed/met a good skier in person before.

it sounds like the key to being chill around pros and not nervous is to blazing with them

I’m from jersey so we’re never usually at mountains with pros, but we went to breck a couple years back and my brother walked past Tom wallisch on the street and was like wait a second and turn around and yelled yo Tom. He turned around and they talked for a few minutes I was so jealous I wasn’t there I would’ve flipped out.

Saw Henrik and and Noah Albaladejo in Bourg St Maurice walking down the main high street when they were skiing up in tignes in the summer about 2 years ago. Didn’t know who Noah was and death stared the hell out of both of them.

Saw THall walk past me at Shredfest this past year while I loading up my pockets with cliff bars and I immediately dropped that shit and ran after him to get a pic. 10/10 would recommend running after pros for a pic, or just become a pro.

Gus is your idol?

met multiple, magnus was super chill and nice, as was andy parry and tom wallisch - lots came through this summer at hood but i definitely geeked hard when my friend who snowboards ran over and introduced me to tanner and had previous told him how stoked I was that he was there. good time.

I don't know about freezing, but sometimes I'm kinda cold when I see them. I think it has more to do with being on top of a mountain in the winter though, its cold up there.

I find a wearing an extra layer helps, balaclavas are money too!

Everybody is secretly trying to be better than each other and we all know it.

You're wrong

I mean, on one hand a lot of skiers are trying to progress. There are also a ton of people who are content with their ability levels and ski for the enjoyment of it. Skiing is not a competition for everyone who participates.

It's also important to note that the majority of those who are trying to get better are not doing it to be better than others - they're doing it to be better than themselves.

I've always heard stories of people saying "whoa dude I saw Bobby Brown once, or dude I totally shredded with tom wallisch" then I'll respond with something like "oh were they nice guys?" then people always say, "well i didn't want to bug him" or some BS like that. People forget that these guys aren't Kanye West, who can't leave his front door without being bombarded with paparazzi. It's funny because they might be the biggest celebrities to us, but "we" are such a small number, that I doubt any of these guys get recognized off the snow more than a couple times a month. My buddy saw Benchetlers van at whole foods, ran in to find him, and Chris was so stoked that he took him outside to see his van and talked with him for like an hour. They all seem super down to earth from everything I've heard.

i met øystein bråten at geilo this atumn, he talked to me while i was trying to talk to some other dude that barely gets recognission ( @bjornroness on ig) but i try to not treat pros differently. and i know enough biebs fans to know that freaking out is just stupid af. keep calm, i know he won Xgames or some shit

Thank you for saying this. This is why I love skiing.

What is with you kids and not being able to handle your nugs? this community used to be so much cooler - now we have middle schoolers talking about how they took a hit out of a pop can and froze when they saw some ski bum walk into a restaurant. Fucks wrong with you?

When I was at hood two summers ago I saw edollo and thall riding through public park. But I was busy getting iphone shots because my friends were trying their first backies out of the pipe
