Freezing Point 32

Hell Yes Midwest represents we gotta lotta heart just not allota nature, so we do what we can by working 2x as hard as other regions to get good skiing in!

...I have Dated a girl for her brains Big, HUGE Brains!!

here's the deal:

I drove 5.5 hours down to Perfects with my dad, before I could drive, in the beginning of this season for their first rail jam. It was also the night of an all night ski. SO i got down there at like 11 after school on a friday, skiied till 3am by myself, got comfortable with some of the rails. It was pretty cool, I like skiing alone. I met a liftie and another guy or 2, but that's it.

The next morning I show up with like 3 hours of sleep (I slept in a hotel about....i don't remember how far, maybe 30 minutes away?)

I go to the comp, and people somehow know me. it was cool, everyone was super nice, not really any uncomfortablness...well...a little.

I competed with people starting to learn who I was. Everyone was real real nice, the vibe is real cool.

(by the way, not complaining, just another point- there was definitely some favoritism with the judging, i guess it's just because all of the little kids running around with FP32 sweatshirts, haha. i'm trying to figure out how to say this without coming off as a dickhead, which I don't intend to be at all. I guess all i can say then is that I was talking with some other non-fp people, and the judging was obviously like ANY rider judged or locally judged competition-biased slightly. just letting everyone know, it's no different in that aspect, maybe even a little bit more, than other local comps.:-)

They had some cool prizes they gave out. The comp went well considering the rain and everything. I met some people that were very nie to me, and we rode the rest of the day. mostly sessioning the S-rail.

I'd say it's definietely a good place to ride. I'm not sure about the 5 and a half hour drive every weekend, but I'd definitly make the drive 2 or 3 times a season for competitions. if anything, to get out of my hell hole of my ohio hill. i mean, maybe the vibe is like that everywhere...i don't really know ...but it was cool. i'm not used to a bunch of good people that all ride together and are nice together.

one more thing: there was virtually no jumps there when I was there, but I know for a fact that they get some good ones.

there you go, unbiased, unpunctuated critique.

Brody

i wont drop out of high school for skiing, mom

I think the reason we didn't have any jumps yet was that comp was rather early in the season right? i can't really remember, but i think that is what the deal was, plus we were kinda preparing for the comp or something i don't remember but yeah we didn't have much for jumps real early. Although for all those who remember we had jumps about 2 months later the season before.

Thanks for the kind words Brody, hopefully next season things will be a little different as far as comps go,

Tad

mm...yea i think i was the first person to recognize you brody...if not one of the first, and i was pretty pleased with how fast the park got put up this year, compared to last year...all around good times

If you ever catch on fire, don't look in the mirror, cause I bet that would really throw you into a panic!

i've never ridden at perfects. Being 15 is sort of a handicap. I can say however, that when you guys came up to snow trails for our comps, i rode more progressively, and was totally stoked on everything that happened. I doubt any of you besides brody even remember me from any of the comps or riding days, i jsut kinda hang back, and watch and ski. The riders that came up were so chill, and so down with the entire spectrum of freeskiing that it pumped me to become a better rider. A few of you gave me tips and things on different stuff, and jsut having taht was great. Riders around here are more interested in image, and being cooler than you than in stoking our other riders out. You're all really awesome, and i look forward to riding with you all next season

i see what borady means about the bias, but if you come down from far away, people are gonna no you, and it would probably help if anything, i don't think someone is gonna give you a lower score becuase your from a different mountain

Number 1- If its rider judged then there can only be like 5 votes that FP would control and those are our own and 'we' only control the one with our name on it.... And besides that i think that Trav Tom and myself are probably some of the more non-biased riders in a contest, cause we know we suck... unlike Gavin who thinks he's soo good he can vote for himself. Nice. Haha i think we're gonna make a rule about that next season.

Number 2- And i'm not picking you out hazel but i'm simply stating... It makes any judge want to give someone a prize that much less when all you hear is them bitching about how they are getting' screwed over by the 'biased' judge And it pisses me off personally when someone gets a giant freakin' head cause they do good in a comp. I know i'll catch some flack for this but Scharff is a prime example of both... he bitched long and hard cause he didn't win a rail comp he may or may not have deserved to win, and if you don't believe me watch the freakin' tape... Trav has been capturing footy for the movie and i think that the winner proabably should have won. I can't say that i know who got what and that the Judging for the event wasn't kinda clustered but I hate when people bitch about judging cause its nearly impossible to fix. We are going to try and send some 'non-biased' people to a judging class to get judges that perhaps can be sent to other events as well, but i digress. And then to my other point if Scharff does win he doesn't shut up about it for weeks, when he may have only gotten lucky to begin with. Not saying that Scharff or anyone never deserved to win anything but perhaps you know what i'm talkin' about.

Number 3- If an event is judged by a panel then there are more things to look at than a grab.... I.E. Amplitude (X-Games), Style which doesn't have to be a grab, Difficulty, and landing... Now i think i remember the Duddy 'incident' you speak of and i don't remember all the competitors but Duddy's sticks out in my mind, and what does that tell me? It kicked ass.... He went way larger than anyone in the field, never moved a muscle in the air and stomped the landing... it wasn't grabbed but as i recall Tanner does some badass 3's that have no grab and look super stylie? So what i'm saying is there may have been a Corked 7 that had a grab, but maybe it was half as big as the 5 and he flailed the whole time he wasn't grabbin'?

Sorry to jabber on and on but this is a subject that sits poorly with me, because its always my ass that has to put up with the bitchers who can't see past their own trick and see what others have done. That is part of the problem with a lot of riders who get in comps. they are only interested in winning instead of feeding off of people's energy and totally just enjoying the experience. People like that just try to compare their jump to what was thrown by others, which is fine, except when you are looking to win, you pick minor flaws and blow them out of proportion... much like this post... So i'll end it here... If ya want my whole take on this crap i can give it but i'm sure most of you didn't make it this far.... i doubt i would But think about some of that stuff.. its a hell-of-a lot harder than anyone thinks it is, and anyone who has put on a contest knows what i'm talkin' about.

i knwo your not just pointin me out..kuz i am like one of the most positive poeple there...i dont really say mucha nd im always having a good time....but i just found it hard to belive how duddy wont that comp....oh well it is all said an done....and u say enter comps for the experience...yeahi might if it was free...but sorry tad i dont spend 15 bucks of my own money to compete for fun...that isnt happening...its just the whole reason why i refuse to enter any comps this year...yeah yeah bitch me out tad i dont really care man, i am stating my oppinion and i ahve always had good thing to say about you..but eh, some things are so shaddy

i think the active discussion between all the pns skiers is why we have a good park. cuz everyone speaks their mind so the park crew knows the opinions of the ppl who actually ski the place. so if something wrong ppl say something, it gets fixed, the park rocks even harder. Go pns.

Phree Stylez

woah. too much to read.

anyways, I was just stating the obvious, I think, about the judging. No worries guys, it isn't different than any mountain/hill where there is a crew.

yeah, FP pushes everyone they ride with, or that rides with them, straight up.

and while Spencer said all everyone around here is worried about is fashion...well, at my hill, people don't even care about that. it's just like a bunch of 8 year old rednecks that show up to ski straight down the hill.

none of you can understand how bad it is.

and i'm the only one on here from Alpine. no wonder.

Brody

there are things judges look for that riders don't always focus on, riders should work for votes, not judges working to make it easier for riders.

no one is to blame, but i think some of us in ohio and indiana are still learning about competing, and don't know what we should focus on yet in a comp.

some people may thrown down skiing, but get beat in a comp becuase of this.

As the wise man Max (misty5 max) once said, 'The only wait you can truly be mad if you lose, is if you leave zero doubt in anyones mind that you should have won. The only mistake any one person can make is leaving any doubt what so ever in the judges minds. Make sure that they know you deserve to win, and you will.' I heard that and was like, kapow, he knows whats up. Bias? Who knows man, but, can you say that a boxing match is bias when the guy who got the living hell beat out of him wins the match? The only way to know you're going to win a boxing match is to knock the guy out. So, in skiing, you don't knock yourself, or anyone else out... but in a sense, if you stomp some huge trick with ease, style, hugeness, etc. etc... and you basically 'knock out' the other competitors, then there ya go. Plus, I doubt that anywhere you go there isn't going to be a tad bit of bias. I sure as hell know that when we went to Snowshoe it was a whole lot of biasness, but anyway, this is all I've gotta say, really. Just ski, have fun, live it man. We're all out there doing the same thing. Don't wanan enter a comp.? Dont. You do wanna enter a comp.? Do. Do watcha wanna do, thats what this sport is all about, having your own freedom to make any choice you want to, whether it be style, speed, as the great judges of the X-Games would say 'amplitude', or anything else. You get to choose what you're doing. Go skiing. It'll all fall into place. By the way, this post is not on either persons side. Just stating my own mind.

I like to ski.

nah, scharff has been out for a while now, and the only thing i've heard is that he is under observation in vancouver, no details about how he managed to hurt his spleen

Well guys i just got home from University hospital in Cincy. I have a grade III/IV ruptured spleen from a switch misty 9 gone bad. i stayed in the hospital in Vancouver for 6 days, and then i was forced to fly home from the greatest place on earth to here, which i guess could be worse. Upon arriving i was taken to University Hospital, where they decided that my spleen wasn't working properly so they wanted to do a proceedure that would put a 'heli-coil' into an artery in my spleen that would allow the blood to go through the spleen. It only required a two day stay in the hospital and the actual proceedure wasn't bad but my back gave me some serious complications afterwards but i'm alright now. So yeah in about a month i'll have surgery on my knee so it won't affect my later life but i'm really upset i wasn't able to stay in Whistler and just enjoy the town more.

Well i'm back in town now and finally get to shave and shower in my own shower so i'm gonna do that. A simple suggestion for all those on vacation: Take it easy cause it isn't worth it, and you'll get done what you want don't worry.
