OK, this is the deal, and i find it hard to believe but it is over, the whole staff was let go yesterday, they will be allowed to work through the janurary issue and that is it, as of now there are no solid answers as to what will happen, but as of today no more Freeze. i still cannot believe it, and transworld has no plans to produce another ski magazine such as Freeze,

Personally, i feel that this is a huge impact to our sport, a bad impact! it was the number one mag for our genre and was considered to reach over 50,000 people per issue, how can TS pull the plug, whether or not you like freeze it still was a must in the media movement of the sport.

I would suggest everyone call 760 722 7777 that is transworld, talk to anyone you can and explain how much losing a mag like that will hurt, i think we can help if transworld can truly see how many people read and depend on the magazine,

the info is from the staff, we advertize so we heard about this on FRI, i dont know what they are going to do about subscriptions or refunds, they are going to finish this year out, that i know. also i smell transworld ski mag brewing,

First off I dont understand this.. freeze is the lat magazine i would think to go out of buissness. They must have made some bad choices (not as bad as transworlds latest one though!)

But Im also surprised that they arent even finsihing off the season!?! Ive heard that they do issues months in advance and shit... januarys must be coming to an end right now. How could transworld be so impuslive bastards.

See this is where you can see the diffrence in companies that care and companies that want money...

how unforunate. freeze was by far, the greatest freeskiing magazine. I wonder what the rationale behind this all is. it is surely crazy to the extreme.

This is a step backward for the industry and may create a demise of freeskiing. This is what you need to think about. If there are no media targeting our niche, marketing opportunities for those targeting this niche, such as dedicated twin-tip ski companies and the like, will experience limited promotional opportunities. If these promotional opportunities dry up, sales will inevitably decline and these manufacturers will cease to exist. We need to look at this from an industry perspective. Not only are media sources declining, but larger ski manufacturers, of which I shall refrain from mentioning, have also made the conscious decision that profitability in this niche is limited and ceased servicing it. Something needs to be done!

^ chill out man. freeze magazine wasnt the only thing covering it. companies are not going to dry up because freeze went down...wouldnt u still know about 4 frnt and armada even if there wasnt freeze around? of course u would. now granted, it was a big ass help. but itll be ok if it doesnt come back and nothing replaces it. worst part about it is the shit that freeze sponcered...parkasaurus...im sure theres more, i just dont know em. and liftie of the month. >sob< all grieve at the loss of one of the greatest features in magazine history. but even still, we will survive, brother. now i read freeze as much as the next guy, dont get me wrong, but NS fills me in just as well if not better. i just cant chill on NS while im shitting, as others have mentiond...

plus its 25 duckits that u can spend instead on beer or hookers or whatever

Out here (in the west) where most styles are created, everyone these days is rockin the one shoulder backpack. You get yourself a tight pack like a Dakine or some random skate pack, and just drape that shiz over your right shoulder. That means when you are jibbin the park, you gotta do all your grabs opposite, with your left hand. Otherwise the pack will fall off your right shoulder and all the girls will gasp and think you have no steeze. Another thing to do with the pack has to do with when you are on a rail. Once you are securely on the rail, just let the pack slide off your shoulder and just hang that thing off your arm. This lets everyone know that you really don't care you are on the rail at all, thus making your steeze that much better. Plus when you 270 off, the pack whips around and takes out any gapers trying to snap pics of your fly ass.

Most everyone pays tribute to the creater of this style by rockin 'the kevin' almost every day. So if you see someone with mad 'the kevin' style, don't hesitate to go up to them and say 'Dude, your 'the kevin' steeze is so tight I think I am gonna go home and punch my mom in the face.' That will let the person know they are indeed cool, and that you will be rocking 'the kevin' steeze sometime soon.
 
airic, the magazine will finish through the season, theres probably like three issues left, but the magazine its self will nolonger be around after those issues go out of buisness, nad the people that work there will no longer have a job after January.

I've seen transworld do this before with a snowboard publication they had called 'Snowboard Life' it was like the Powder for Snowboarders it was a totaly sole magazine, there Main focus was 'big mountain Jeremy Jones'. They decided to cancell it and didn't even tell the subscribers, so the next season comes around and my friend doesn't get his magazine, and half way through the season and he still doesn't have his mag so he calls them up, and they were just like yeah sorry we cancelled it. He eventually complained and they sent him a couple t-shirts and a tool and a two year subscripition to T-world Snowboarding(which sucks), but this was after excessive complaining by phone and email.

point is Transworld(time4 to be more specific) is a terrible company

 
The magazine wasn't turning out the sales numbers that Transworld had hoped it would by this point in time. I doubt it was even profitable. That's why it has been cancelled.

As for petitions and complaining, it won't do shit. Transworld knows exactly how many people like their magazine enough to buy it through subscription numbers and sales figures. A magazine has one of the easiest times when judging the demand for their particular product.

The biggest problem with freeze was that it fucking sucked. Terribly. All ski magazines are attrociously shitty right now, and they always have been. I won't miss the magazine, but there will be other affects on the sport on a professional and non-professional level that could be long lasting if someone does not step-up and fill the gap. The labour market for photographers and journalists just got a lot tighter. Atheletes are now vying for even less coverage in mags. With the number of pros growing as the sport matures and expands, and the number of print media sponsor spots drastically cut, things have become much more competitive.

Also consider advertising spots. The sport appears to be growing as is reflected by the increased sales in twintip sales. With less spots for advertising, sales could be reduced, especially with ''core'' companies which do not have an established brand name and rely on published ads more so than bigger, established brands.

It will be interesting to see how the sport is affected in the short-term and long-run. I'm not sad to see a terrible magazine be cancelled but I am sad that it may have negative effects. Hopefully, this is nothing more than the post-produt of a demographic reasessment where Transworld will launch a new magazine more suited to the maturity level and image of the sport with the intention to reach a larger number of readers. Time will tell.
