TransWorld Puts Freeze on Ice

SAM Magazine--Oceanside, Calif., Nov. 1, 2004--Freeze Magazine will cease publication with its January 2005 issue, TransWorld Media (TWM) vice president/general manager Brad McDonald told SAM.

In addition to the Freeze staff, TWM has cut loose director of marketing and business development Mike Jaquet and vice president of marketing and sales Allen Crolius.

McDonald said that Freeze was having difficulty hitting its circulation targets, in part because the magazine had a relatively narrow niche and little room to broaden its market without bumping up against larger stablemates Ski and Skiing Magazines.

Skiing influences my life way too much, I can be at some surf spot where theres not any snow at all and I walk by this resturant and I'll see a hand rail outside it and I'll have a thought that how can I get snow out here to slide this rail. Which is absolutly super stupid- Jon Olsson
 
It is True.....Freeze staff has been let go, and the mag is done... January will be the last issue. This really sucks!! RIP Freeze!!!

It probably has more to do with expectations from Time Warner corporate than it does with anything to do with the ski industry. Its hard to maintain a niche magazine where a large corproation has expectations of growth.

that really does suck. I used to be a subscriber to transworld surf, too. But I can't even find that mag in stores anymore, maybe they stopped that one as well. Hopefully freeskier will turn into an even more amazing magazine because of this...?

wow, this is really gonna benefit freeskier. How is it that they just up and pull the plug on freeze? isnt it only the 2nd year transworld took control of freeze. how much growth did they really expect? from what i could tell freeze was a lot more popular then freeskier. i guess this shows that being the big corporation is not better then being the small guy.

front page there. very dissapointing. I would like to know more about why this is happening, and what it means for the whole freeze crew. Freeze has been part of the new skiing movement since the begining, and to see them go really sucks.

this is bullshit man, Freeze is fucking awesome, I have pretty much every issue they've ever put out. I knew them moving to transworld was trouble. To make matters worse I haven't even been able to get any issues this year so far, this sucks

Good god damn, I don't know what to say. I still have every single issue from day one. Slave Boy and crew gave me my first job doing some art for them after we met him at the first High North. I am at a loss for words, I am so bummed right now. That is such a good crew at FREEZE. Good people. FUCK!

The whole of the MWAS and CP send their support. Thanks for all the good times, you were all instrumental in our development.

 
no fucking way. freeze IS newschool, it's been the biggest supporter and dopest mag around. this can't be happening.

fuuuuuck this sucks. That first issue of freeze was a real eye opener, i still remember buying that thing..... and every issue since then... and yeah i think it has slipped off a bit in reader interest but damnit.... oh well, now ive got a partner for Boards in Motion to chill with.

 
Yeah I mean freeze has been around since the beginning but still. The magazine has been pretty shitty lately, maybe if they had worked harder to put out a better quality magazine they wouldnt all be getting fired....

Idk so far i have really enjoyed the freeze issues this year i am very disapointed this is goin down. No wonder they were giving out all those free subscriptions this year they never planned on providing them!

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.
