Freestyle skiing video games

Hey, i know that this message has been posted before but i need know if there is ever going to be a good freestyle skiing game. Yes, i know there was jmmt but i hate to say it but compared to other winter sports games on the market ie: Amped, espn winter x games snowboarding 2002, jmmt didn't even compare which means it sucked. Video game corrporations such as koami maker of winter x snowboarding 2002 and the makers of amped need to realize that skiing games would be a hell of a lot better. If they made a game that was just like one of those where u got to make ur own skier and progress from a nobody to making movies, cover shots, and compatitions then it would be great and would make a lot of money. I mean am i missing something here cuz the video game companies are missing out on a gold mind. So if anyone has any info on any upcomming freestyle skiing games respond or if u just have an opinnion. Thanx

One day.

A really good, solid game can easily take 2 years and millions of dollars to make. Even if some company started making a game a year ago, they wouldn't be ready to start hyping it up and telling the public until the end of the season.

I don't know if there are any GOOD games in the making, but I sure hope they're on the way. I heard that they've decided not to make MadTrix 2, which sucks because that would have been sweet if they actually put some work into it (unlike the first one). Skiing is becoming more prominent though and the fact that skier halfpipe is in the X-Games now might help as more people are becoming exposed to the brilliance of skiing. With any luck there will be some dope games coming out in the not so distant future.

The average fat lazy couch potato who buys all the snowboard games still doesn't know anything about skiing, and wouldn't bother spending $50-$80 on the game anyway.

hey i heard they are makind mad trix 2 , and ive heard the first one is pretty dope ?? is that right cause if it is im getting a ps 2 and buying mad trix without thought

anyways hopefully they coem out with more cause skiing is booming now

peace bros

good luck with upcoming ski season

there was an article awhile back about how JMMT 2 was canceled. The first one was really fun for a few days but then its retardedness set in.

ya that is true but i think that in order to make a skiing game people have to show more interest in it and i am not talking about people like the people on this website i am talking about the general public that when they here x-games they think snowboarding they need to realize that skiing is there to and looks and is a hell of a lot better. But n e wayz i think that it needs to be done and needs to be done well with x games athletes and all the events like slopestyle halfpipe and even big air. and u could create ur own person and move up in the ranks like in espn winter x games snowboarding 2002. but i think that the best part would be to have places where u go to the backcountry and just hit backcountry kickers for magazine shots and movies that would be a truly kick ass game!!!!

because with skis it would be more fun than with a snowboard u could do more tricks and since people on this site obviously like skiing they could be themselves or there favorite skiing athlete

kid, just go out on the hill and try new tricks yourself. reality can be a lot of fun, you know.

Ya i know lizziebeth, and i do ski and i do tricks but i also like video games so it would be awsome to have the best of both worlds. I am not saying i am a person that just watches tv and playes video games but all i am saying is how good it would be. Infact if i had it my way i would be skiing right now.

i dont know about anybody else, but it doesnt really bother me that there isnt a good skiing game, the only winter sports games i enjoy are SSX, and SSX tricky, its really the same thing, only with snowboards

ssx tricky is the dumbest game ive ever played, seriouslky that like helicopter trick, its too damn fake for me

skiing may be very cool and would make for a sick game, but the truth is it isnt mainstream enough for the big companies to make a major investment in

I am not doing the grabs because I am getting a thrill out of touching my ski-JP Auclair

That he does.

Oh no you guys, in order for more skiing games to come out that means skiing has to become more mainstream!!

Ah, no. we don't need that shit. If it were mainstream than that means there would be more poser kids, and I hate them. And if it were mainstream that would mean our top athletes would be making the money that they deserve, they should have to live on 1/10th the cut that professional snowboarders make. And more money in the biz means more money going towards developing better equipment and other merchandise. Hell with that, I like my skis breaking every 3 months. Makes life fun.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

i think the only truly successful ski game that could emerge would be an X-games bundle type thing, like the olympics does with their game. the game would have a bunch of different X-games sports, like skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, skier cross, etc. i think that is the only way enough mainstream public appeal could be generated to fund a good ski game.

First of all, for one reason or another, snowboarding games like Amped, SSX tricky, Cool Boarders, Shaun Palmer's and the like never took off the way Tony Hawk did. But they did alright.

I think for there to be a good game, activison (makers of tony hawk, mat hoffman, shaun palmer, etc.) should make it, but first of all skiing has to reach a point in public popularity for it to be profitable. I would give it 2 or 3 years before something decent comes out.

By the way, if they make such a game, may I suggest Mike Douglas Pro Skier?

they delayed jmmt2, but haven;t cancelled it yet. Maybe if instead of having a ski only game, we could sorta fuse that and snowboarding together, so more ppl will start noticing skiing. Plus most snowboarding games are pretty successful, and i personally loved amped(one could say too much). There should be just some universal game for winter, like winter x-games game, er yeah

btw, jmmt sucked the most dick, compared to tony hawk, etc

sarcasm is a wonderful thing

more mainstream means more people in the park making a longer wait to hit your jib and a larger bomb hole in the landing......mainstream = no thanx for me

Plus in skiing it is so much easier to get sponsored when there are less ppl to compete with-

Cheap bastard(the dude that said that)

Cant we all just get along, fuck that, can't we all just get a bong

Oh God... to the Line1260psx dude... listen, theres a thing called a period (.). Its a thing we normals call 'punctuation.' Now, one of the side effects of Ritalin, I've heard, is that it INCREASES your ability to use this thing 'punctuation.' So mabye you should get some?

Ok, they already tried a joint Snowboarding and Skiing game. It was HORRIBLE. I don't remember what it was called, but it was for the N64, and it was worse than JMMT.

In regards to JMMT. I believe it was stated that the publisher rushed the developers through the process, resulting in an unfinished game, which could have been much better, had they been given more time.

Another thing is. Companies will not make money off of a skiing game right away. There has to be a large consumer market. They can't just sell 10,000 copies to some skiers like us, and expect to make back the millions they spend on development. They need something that will appeal to the masses, something that will sell to the local farmboy buying with his money from picking cabbage, or the local drugdealer buying with his cash from dealing coke (which I presume you might have bought?) or some other general group. The reason the Tony Hawk games and the Coolboarders/ESPN Snowboarding games have done so well, is because those sports have become mainstream throuhg marketing, and appeal to the teenybopper crowd.

And if ANYBODY says anything in the effect of 'Why don't they use the 'Insert Game Name Here' Engine and put skiers in it?' I will slit their throat. You can't just INSERT skiers into a game like that. It involves massive effort. The End.

Well, I was going to make a lengthy post but LineSkiEastCoast did it for me. However I still want to re-interate some points here:

First of all who ever said that creating a skiing game would unleash a 'gold mine' needs to stop sniffing glue. I can't stress enough how small this TINY niche in the market is. Sure it will grow but it takes time. And anyone that wants a skiing video game but doesn't want skiing halfpipe in the olympics should really get a clue because the only way I see us getting a market big enough is by exposing ourselves to the hundreds of millions of people that watch the olympics. Remember people this is a business as much as it is a sport.

Secondly, the game designers worked REALLY hard on the game but it was rushed into production. I'm sure most of you haven't had a chance to speak with the guys that worked on the game but I have, and they were incredibly supportive of the sport and keeping it realistic. It's a shame that they didn't have more time to work on it.

Anyways thats all for now. Be thankful to 3DO for actually having the balls to invest some money into this sport instead of bashing them for a sub-par product.
