Freestyle Skiing too Dangerous?

Hey guys

I have to write a paper and the topic I chose was is Freestyle skiing too dangerous. I dont think it is but I'd like to hear other freestyle skiers opinions about it

Offcourse it's dangerous. You're sending it off 50 foot plus jumps going inverted. You can fuck yourself over hard. Statically it's not the most dangerous sport so try to factor that in

Talk about how dangerous it is (jumps, rails, inversion, cliffs, trees, avalanches, remote locations, etc), but then talk about how people continue to push themselves further and further despite the constant danger.

Too dangerous for what?

People do dumb and dangerous things all the time that are much more harmful than skiing. It's just that they're usually not broadcasted and marketed to such a widespread audience. So is freeskiing too dangerous to broadcast to a bunch of trend-following kids who will push it too far and get hurt without understanding the danger inherent in it? Possibly.

But who is anyone to say that it's too dangerous to allow us to do? Those of us who understand and accept the risk are going to find a way to do it anyways.

Its dangerous yes...but not too dangerous as long as you're smart. If people here considered it too dangerous then no one would be doing it.

Factoring everything in, even top pros get injured a lot. It's very easily as dangerous, or more dangerous than football, depending upon what tricks you're doing.

yes but while we are doing all of these tricks we all know the possibilities of what could happen if we dont land it. Even when not doing freestyle there is always that risk of getting hurt no matter how much we prepare to prevent it

This exactly. I would add, that any sport comes with some sort of risk, however taking away the risk would totally change the sport- Did anyone see the South Park episode "Sarcastaball"? Same thing happens their but with football.

I would venture to say freesking at the highest level is probably the most dangerous competitive sport out there.

let's remember the time redbull sent a man to the edge of our atmosphere to free fall back to land. now skiing is safe.

and he returned safely.....so they're batting 1000 with free falls from the edge of the atmosphere....

True, but you probably have a better chance of dying on the drive to the mountain

OP I did a very similar presentation on media bias of whether it was too dangerous and statistically, womens hockey had more injuries in the first day of practice than slopestyle and superpipe had in the entire olympics. PM me if you want more stuff I can try to find the presentation and share it with you.

It can be, primarily because I have done something similar to this

However, a lot of things can be dangerous (compare free skiing injury/death stats with those of car crashes, cancer, heart disease)
