Freeskiing Mount Rushmore

Me and my friends were talking about who's faces would be carved into freeskiing's Mount Rushmore. Super original topic I know, but I'm curious who people think should be on there.

We all said J Lev and then couldn't reach a general consensus for the rest.

J Lev?

McConkey , JP , THall .

I don’t know what my 4th would be, Candide, Coombs, maybe some Sylvain Saudan action to keep some respect on the OG of OGs

Here's my 4:

Candide, Tanner Hall, Mconkey, Henrik Harlaut (Alternate for Mconkey: Scot Schmidt)

Could easily be up there too:

Simon Dumont

Markus Eder

Tom Wallisch

Phil Casabon(Greatest street skier)

Daron Rahlves(One of the best ever), check the tape, maybe not exactly freeskier, but dude is one of the best skiers ever

Skiers I wish could be up there(list too long):

Adam Delorme

Nick Martini

Reine Barkered

Antti Ollila

Jesper Tjader

Drew Tabke

Sage Cattabriga Alosa

Tim Durtschi

So many more

Might be up there when it's all said and done:

Colby Stevenson

Ahall

Matej Svancer

Marcus Gogen

Max Hitzig

Walker Woodring

Kai Jones (He gets a good chunk of hate but holy shit kid can ski)

Karl Fostved

We are so fucking blessed to have all the footy of these incredible skiers these days, across an awesome diverse field. I can't wait to watch the progression of skiing for the rest of my life, and the style that comes with it.

The invention of twin tips is pretty substantial, also the cultural impact of Line is pretty important

yes but when you're talking about greatest skier ever, it's about skiing and contribution. Jlev has contributed a ton of stuff, but his skiing resume doesn't have the same weight as any of the others. Not to say he is a bad skier by any means, just not on the level of your candide, Thall, Mconkey types

A more accurate version of a Jlev on this rushmore could be Eric Pollard maybe, also forgot another skier who could be up there for sure, Pep Fujas.

So many great skiers

Doesn't really have to be skiers at all, just people who had incredible influence on the sport. He was also in the X games and maybe hit the first street rail (I think it was one of, if not the, first rails ever hit on skis).

I think Warren Miller is also probably there as well.

It's all up to interpretation I suppose, but when I think of Mt rushmore, that has to include both incredible skiing and incredible contribution, one way or the other. By that logic I suppose he could easily be up there on the contribution side.

Either way, so many great skiers and designers of ski over the years

The only one I'd put at necessity would be Candide since he is literally the GOAT skier. So far ahead of his time, won everything, and continues to absolutely crush at 41, absolutely unbridled longevity

Still convinced Kai Jones is an industry plant. If you put any kid in that position they are bound to become a badass.

I thought this thread was going to be about skiing down Mt Rushmore lmao was imagining jibbing one of the presidents faces

There are so many kids in Teton Valley and Jackson that are fucked at skiing. Kai is insane at skiing but he is only big because his dad owns TGR. Most pro freeride skiers need to get on the tour so they get exposure and then can shift to just making movies. Kai got to skip this whole step and get a redbull helmet aswell.

Plake. For 2 reasons: a) mohawk would look sick carved into stone 2) He was a pioneer

Edollo, Ski Boss, J Lev (he invented the twin tip)

They made that fucking video on him like when he was 11 and he could alr backflip and send huge cliffs. Redbull and TGR came to his dads door and made him sign away his rights when he was 4. He then went to a secret Jackson House and was kept out of school to ski. 2000 ski days later he is up there with all the new dudes. He is an industry plant.

His Dad is TGR

People were bending up the tails on their skis long before Line existed.

Thats pretty cool, though I doubt those skis were anywhere near as influential to skiing as the LINE 1260

To me it depends on how we're defining freeskiing. If we're including freeride in the discussion equally with park I'd go:

-THall

-Candide

-Sammy C

-Markus Eder

For freeride only it would be:

-Shane McConkey

-Sean Pettit

-Candide

-Seth Morrison

Just park skiing:

-Henrik Harlaut

-Tom Wallisch

-Simon Dumont

-Alex Hall

Street only:

-Phil Casabon

-Cam Riley

-Antti Ollila

-....Jake Mageau (too early to claim?)

having deja vu here

isnt it supposed to be like the founding fathers?

Glen Plake

Mike Douglas

JP Auclair

Shane McConkey

i think those guys did the most for the sport pre dew tour xgames and olympics

Damn 2 years late, my b never saw that one. And yeah, I had mcconkey as one as well.

Side note: kinda crazy how little people mentioned Matt Harvey. Can't have newschool skiing with newschoolers lol, I feel like newschoolers changed the entire freeskiing world, talking and sharing videos progressed the sport so fast, I think he gets a face on there fasho

How about different aspects of the industry. Im thinking the pioneers of not only skiing, but filming. For me, it be Warren Miller, Glen Plake, Shane McConkey, and Candide Thovex

Julian carr would be hard to put

in a top 4 but he should atleast be mentioned. No one sends cliff even close to as big as him

when we build it, can we pls make the mt Rushmore of skiing like 300 feet tall and actually impressive unlike the actual mt rushmore

unpopular opinion: bode miller

crazy call on Bode Miller. definitely don't think he makes the list for freeski but he is a savage on skis, partied hard too.

"The world's top skier, Bode Miller, has apologized after admitting on 60 Minutes that he has skied in a race while still drunk from the night before." (https://www.npr.org/2006/01/13/5157043/top-u-s-skier-bode-miller-battles-controversy)
