Freeskier way good deal

We're giving you the option of doing 3 years for 3 bucks. It is on the order form with a big yellow "best deal" button next to it.

If you're already subscribed to the magazine you can still take advantage of the deal, it simply extends your existing subscription. Just make sure you enter the name and address that you're currently getting the magazine at.

Something tells me that you're going to be seeing some posters this year. And why is it that every time I offer a good subscription program people interpret it that we're dying for ad revenue or dying for subscribers. This is just a way to stoke people up for the Buyer's Guide before we have to do a label run.
 
you pay 3$ for 3 years but the question is : Will you receive it?? last years I got a free susbcrition with WhiteShine I sent it a week after, and never received anything from them...
 
No, it is a gigantic scheme. We're going to become billionaires by ripping you off $3 at a time.

Usually, when people don't get their subscriptions it is for the following reasons...

1. They enter their form information incorrectly. (Wrong address, country, etc.)

2. They enter credit card information wrong and the card is declined. At that point our fulfillment company issues a letter to your home instructing you on your card error. Most people throw this out or don't even pay attention.

3. They move and don't update their address.

This is why we have a customer service line that can help. So, instead of whining on NS, you can pick up a phone, talk to a human being and they can help you figure out why you haven't gotten your magazine. Hey, look, it is even toll free.

Ive seen many people complaining about the same thing as me and nobody ever answered so that why I was asking. Thanks for telling me more about it..
 
alright, so now Im getting freeskier until around 2010. And I still have a bunch of free subscription cards from ski movies that I haven't sent in yet. By the way it looks, Ill keep getting freeskier until about 5 years after I die if I keep getting ski movies that provide free subscriptions and good deals like this.
 
Hey coolguy, thanks for startin' this thread. I just signed up for three years. Props to Freeskier. I've been re-reading previous issues during the summer.
 
trying to boost paid readership numbers to show to the advertisers, because thats where the coal comes from. its a good move actually - although im supposed to get my copies for free and they cant even seem to manage that! maybe a subscription will help the process... and more reasons to subscribe.

I guess you can only get so far with telling everyone you distributed huge numbers of free promo copies, so you've resorted to selling subscriptions for $1/year so that you can call them "paid", right? I mean, a free promo copy means one thing, but advertisers like it a lot more when you have high "paid circulation" numbers.

What happens when all you non-skiing-related advertisers find out that your "paid subscription/sales" numbers rely on magazines that cost approximately 16.666666666666 cents per issue? *

*Assuming $1 for a one year subscription, and assuming that a one year subscription gets you 6 issues, you'd be paying approximately 16.666666666666666 cents per issue. In case you were wondering where I'm getting the number. Also, I single out non-skiing-related advertisers because they're a cash cow , and because unlike skiing related ones, they don't have newschoolers.com accounts and therefore don't see wonderful threads like this one.
 
dave, i think the best way to handle this thread is to get off of newschoolers.com, and go to work. ;)
 
Ha, I've been on newschoolers longer than most of you. I'm not going anywhere. I'll let these guys talk as much as they want about publishing, truth of the matter is that they don't work at Freeskier so they really can't start rattling off figures about circulation, advertising dollars, etc.

Everyone is an analyst.
 
I paid for a year subscription in February and never received any. I emailed them periodicly and always got the email "we'll fix it". Its not fixed yet and I'm getting pretty mad. You would think 20+ emails plus a few phone calls would persuade someone to get on that.

I'd rather spend 20 dollars an issue for articles that actually make me think and are not just filler for ski porn.

But maybe that's just me.

 
what I mean to say, dave, is that your responding to this thread has really in no way helped its development, and in fact has helped bring out the critics against you. in these situations i usually find it best to keep my mouth shut and let it blow over. be like tanner and let your work do the talking.

and i dont mean it in a bad way, man, but i have to say it: get off your high horse dude, you've been working at Freeskier (as the WEB editor) for how long now? and suddenly you know everything about publishing? as a longtime NS member you should know better than most that there are a lot of people on this site who know a lot about publishing. So don't be too presumptuous.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the last issue of the year the February issue? So if you bought the subscription in Frebruary, it would have been too late to recieve any of the issues. That means(assuming all is right with your subscription) you will start to get it at the beginning of this season.

Oh, tell Brad Fayfield that thanks to your stupid fucking comments, I'll never buy another issue of Freeskier. Or maybe I'm not buying another one because your magazine consists mainly of poorly taken photos of "pro" skiers getting groped by Coors Light promo girls at Freeskier sponsored parties located mostly in Colorado.

People like you, and magazines like Freeskier, are the reason I pay between 8-25 dollars a pop to read well written, interesting, and informative skate, snow, art, and bike magazines. Freeskier is a fucking joke.

Don't ever forget that your magazine isn't on top because it's any good, it's on top because it's the only option for skiers between the ages of 16-25 (I forget your exact demographics, but that's close enough for these purposes)
 
Funny, because there really isn't much on NS that is much more than ski porn, ski talk and ski BS. For such a highbrow "intellectual", you've got a lot of posts and seem to spend plenty of time here.

Anyhow, subscribe to The Economist. It comes every week and you'll feed your brain. You won't, however, find many stories on skiing in that magazine.

I'm stoked that you can get a cheap-ass sub to a ski magazine and I subscribed. $3 is pretty damn cheap, even for toilet paper if that's what you think Freeskier is (or if you use it for that! LOL!).

If I want to think, I'll read something else like the New Yorker or the Atlantic Monthly or, yes, The Economist. But maybe that's just me. . . .

 
same sent in free subscription from white shine video, never got anything. sent another one in march maybe somthing will come. I received yr email about the deal, is that good for us canuks also.
 
fucking gay only to the states its 33 bucks for canada, still a good deal but not worth the amount of worth of getting the money ready and mailing it...
 
aah yes.. im defenitely callin, i keep getting a "you better pay now" letter when i signed up for 2 bucks about 4 months ago... weird. if they cant help, i'll email you.
 
i cant understand how you can sell a magazine for that price. Its so low I got the e-mail and decided not to do it just because I think they are going to pull a Freeze and steal my money. I'll just look at it in Chapters.
 
f that its 3 dollars... i don't even care if i lose it just the chance i'll get 3 years worth of freeskier is well over 3 dolla worth of a chance!
 
I'd be willing to bet that a counter-argument to the jab written above, addressed to the editor of Freeskier, would not be published.
