I heard two distinct trains of thought here. One on the merits of a pedagogy of newschool progression in a safe controlled environment, and the other on the view that "organized" instruction stagnates its evolution.
Well, I must admit that I have to side with the first argument simply because I believe that an understanding and accomodation of a student's basic wants and needs is better for the longevity of the sport. The "Don't be a pussy! Just do it!" will more oft than not land groms in the hospital but make for great video.
Most new progress seems to occur during the summer camps where riders can push the boundaries of what's possible in, you guessed it, a controlled environment where the primary instructors are, right again, very qualified (coaching certs et.al.). Not to mention the tramps, water ramps, and other tools available at their disposal.
It's an INTRODUCTION. Where you take it from there, is up to you...
