Who ever came up with this stupid expression and why does everybody embrace it?

You ride a horse, a bike, a wave, because they all move. You dont ride a static object like a mountain. What's up with this bullshit. All of a sudden skiing doesn't sound cool enough anymore??

Freeriding has come to refer to skiing that is 'free' from any set 'discipline.' That is, riding that is not bound by the race course, the mogul field, or what-have-you. Freeriding is skiing that has no boundaries, skiing in which one hits the mountain and rides ever part of it - carving the steeps, running the bumps, sessioning the park, floating the pow.

Its called freeriding because youre riding the skis and you can do it however you want. You don't have to do the pole plants and quick turns if you don't want to.

There is nothing motherly about mother nature. Except for her big mountainous breasts.

I do understand the 'free' part. So you say its the skis that you are riding rather than the mountain. Interesting, I always here people talking about how they ride big faces and so on. I think that's pretty dumb. Riding skis seems ok to me, but I still prefer calling it skiing.

Freeriding is an aspect of skiing, as is racing, jibbing, etc.
