Freeride Boots for Big Feet

Well the day has come where I need to hang up the old boots of 10+ years and grab some new sneaks.

Problem is my feet are huge.

I wear a size 14 and though a 31.5 is my size - i can squeeze into a 31 with some light mods. Last needs to be at least 100 but would prefer 102.

Ive been dying for a freeride boot thats compatible with alpine bindings as well as WTR and even a pin toe piece if possible.

I just ordered a pair of the Scarpa Freedom SL 120 in a 31.

The fit is fairly spot on - except that I have a lot of pressure on the top of my foot near the ankle joint (this is called something in the boot fitting world but i cant remember - it has to do with high volume on the top of your foot.)

Id like to make these work - but at the same time - i should be going to a bootfitter to try and make a brand new pair of boots work. Its as though if my heal could go lower this pressure would releave itself.

Im about 5 hrs from a bootfitter I would trust and my return window is closing so i need to make a decision/find an alternative.

Does anyone else know of a comparable boot?

I like the Fulltilt Ascensions and the Diablo Lupos - however they only have a mold to size 30.5 which is a no go for me....

HALP!!!!

You have a high instep. I would return the boot as the junction of the cuff and lower shell is the hardest area of the boot to modify.

As a bootfitter I will never put a person into a boot if they don't have the right instep. Make the trip my dude, you will be glad you did.

I believe the atomic boots with memory fit can grow 6-8mm fo even though they start at 98mm last when the heat molding process is done they can become over 100 pretty easily.

Also most stated boot lasts are measured in a size 26/26.5 and increase or decrease from there based on size, so for a stated 98mm last boot, the size 25 may be 96mm and the 27 may be 100mm, now obviously they don’t change that drastically because then a 31 mondo would be massive, but its worth trying on most boots you can find in your size because fore foot width can be easily adjusted while room around the ankle really can’t.

I can't believe that. You owe it to yourself to make the trip and get a proper boot fitting. Your feet will praise you.
