Freeheeler on the Cover of Powder Magazine Photo Annual

wow that is a cool shot, from the tip of his skii, I wonder how they did that star time lapse with the rof drop on the front page of the site?
 
its just a long ass exposure, and at then end the skier went off the building, and they poped the flash just on the skier so it would not light up anything else and blow out the exposure. thats wasy everything is orange from the streetlights, and the skier is white from the flash
 
Considering I want to be a ski photographer, the photo annual always blows me away.

The photographer interview type things were cool too!
 
from what it sounds like in the description, they basically did what i was thinking. leave the frame exposed for a few minutes to let the star trails start, have him huck, set off a flash just as he grabs. if it was dark enough, the camera would never pick up his shadow hucking before or after the flash. very cool and technical technique and definitely original. i think it's safe to say that there are many photographers out there who would love to try a shot like that, but very few who are talented enough to make it happen.

at least that's my theory and interpretation of the description.
 
just so that you know telemarking is difficult as shit when you first start out. when you can ski freeheel you can truly ski for real (not bashing on anyone who doesn't telemark here). btw you should learn some more about the history of skiing and don't shit where you eat
 
This year's photo annual is the best by far. Being part of it is my proudest journalistic acheivement so far. Please hate on me for it.
 
Telemarking is hard and all, but if you really want to try something impossible I suggest telemarketing. It's a great way to boost your morale! Mike Hornbeck was so unsucessful at selling things over the phone to families eating dinner that his rise to the top of skiing's elite seemed easy for a kid who is now IMMUNE TO FAILURE.
