The whole war on mp3s is a joke. Why is it that companies believe having access to free music is hurting the industry?

Do you think it is?

Because I sure as hell don't.

The truth is that mp3s open up the door to sample new music; music that people would have never found out about - if it wasn't for the world wide web.

The ease of accessing songs makes it enjoyable and creates much greater interest in the music industry.

So what? Who cares if a few people make copies of cds.

'That means that bands will lose money because a few less people may buy the cd'

Companies trying to get rid of mp3s are failing to see the bigger picture here.

Had it not been for mp3s, users across the world would've never heard of bands like swollen members. Mp3s are a huge advertising campaign in itself. Free advertising for the record. Now that all these users found about the band, users will then purchase merchandise, tshirts, concerts, and its quite possible that they will go purchase the band's cd to support them.

Think Big Picture.

Well, I havn't bought a cd in a music store 4 years now,

but i don't care if the record companies arn't making money,

because the artists dont' even make 1/2 the money off of cd revenues, the record labels do

ive given up buying anything on a major label. i will buy stuff on smaller punk labels cuz they help the movement and progression of music. i will also buy music from smaller reggae music labels

for me it's like getting free food samples...if i like the food ill buy some of it, if i dont i wont buy it. ive bought cd's of music that ive only found out about via mp3's, and im sure that most of you have as well. if it hadnt been for file sharing, i would not have bought that music. and for the most part, i only burn mixes, i dont burn complete cd's. so i think that if most people are like me, then record labels dont have much of an argument.

i think that mp3s are good if people dont abbuse them and download whole cds. cuz if everyone did that noone would make money off of the cds and noone would want to produce it anymore

im with NOFXpunkAF on this one! i only buy compilations that labels put out like Punk-o-Rama and Victory Style! these let me hear new bands on the label while still getting my favs on it too!

the companies and artists complaining arent hurting worth shit. some of the the lesser known artists in the mainstream world still make millions, aint hurting. i would, however, buy maybe a cd of a group or somethig that is lesser known, but still it really isnt hurting. and there was this report thingy on the news of this one local music guy,and it was cause of p3 saring that he sold a lot of his music,yep, ok

i dont see how taping stuff off the radio is any different, why dont they convict people who do that as well, oh and while theyre at it they could arrest people who tape stuff off tv as well. its retarted.

but 99 cent downlaods is like 20 bucks a cd. You can buy them cheaper then that at record stores.

but remember... there will always be the ppl who 'only' buy cds as well... and yes the idea of not abusing and downloading a whole cd off of mp3 files is a good idea... i am a person who also listens to mp3 and i also buy cds on occasion if i really enjoy the music!

80% of the music I download are CD's that are near immposible to find in stores. take Jedi Mind Tricks for example, I hadn't heard any of their music before i heard it online and now i'm searching evrywhere for their CD. If it's a band or a group I like I will go out and buy the CD. I think what the big music labels don't like is that people are nolonger to shell out 20 bucks for a CD that only has one good song, it's just a waste of money.

I buy most of my susic, I go to places like mp3.com to sample music. I don;t buy many major label CD's (I have one.)

I always try and buy the CD. The best places to get them is on the tour. The bands get more money/you get it cheaper, and usually they sign it:)

Completely agree with the first post by Ghostdragon.

I have an insane amount of music on my computer, and for a majority of the songs in my MP3 database, I have the bands ACTUAL cd to compliment it.

If you REALLY like the band you are gonna buy the cd to actually hold the true music, instead of some cheap meaningless CD-R.

And also, it does allow you to discover new artists. There are soooo many artists I would never have even heard of if it hadn't been for MP3s. Especially with radio the way it is.
