Free (legal) music that's decent

i've recently being trying to search around for some cool free (legal) music but i find it hard to sift thru crap or when i do find something decent, the artist won't let you download it. i've been checking out these sites:

so yea, if anyone could point me in the direction in sites like those above or point me to some specific groups that offer free music, i'd be...happy.

there really isn't any 100% free legal music downloads with a huge amount of songs, if it was then everyone would doing it, and not spending $$ on legal stuff. i use limewire.. but i dont fileshare anything of my own stuff

dude download kazaa lite. it takes like 30 seconds to download and i usually just uninstall it whenever it needs to go or im done dl. it has no spyware or any other gay shit kazaa has...alot of porn i might add.

Limewire. You don't have to share anything so isn't that legal? Sharing is illegal but dl is legal?

note to anybody wondering about the legal state of downlaoding music(this is just basic and in diff countries it changes slitely

downlaoding music that u WOULD have to pay for IS illegal

sharing music that u HAVE bought or have goten from some1 else who has bought it(you shud no what i mean) IS illegal

if u get cought doing this you can get fined or put in jail, depending on the scale you have done it, but dont worry, the music companies have tried to track the illegal music downloading bu there is so much of it that they gave up, so do it if u want(but i didnt encourage u to do it now did i) just watch out for viruses and ppl hacking ur computer from it

 
Actually if you read the articles about the people being sued and whatnot, you will see that only people SHARING are being sued. They have yet to go after anyone for only downloading. They will send you cease and desist letters if you are downloading, but it seems to me that they can't legally go after you for downloading music.

thanks for all the advice guys but i'm kind of on a different wavelength i guess. i do have both kazaa lite and limewire and i think they're great and all for downloading illegal music. and i don't have to worry about legal repurcussions because i live in Canada (yea!). but...instead of downloading music that is illegal and has the possibility of hiding viruses, i prefer to supports artists that i listen to. the sites i listed above are sites that support indie musicians by allowing them to upload there own music. this music can then be downloaded by anyone for free.

my question was if anyone knew of any sites that did this sort of thing.

i can tell by your answers that you're the kind of ppl that love to live on the wrong side of the law so maybe i'll just follow your example.

the way it works is for them to sue you they have to get the song from you and make sure that its the song so just seing the title wont work. if you download it from them they are giving it to you and it is not an illegal thing since they own the copyright to the file. and if you download from someone else that person is doing the illegal part of the transaction but the RIAA won't know.

Since you live in canada you dont have to worry about the RIAA only your countries equivalent.

those sites are not always legal even if they say they do. that whole thing about canadians paying a tax on CDr's so you can download songs doesnt work unless the record companies agree(which they dont)

so your two choices are download illegally for free or downlaod legaly for money.
