On average, frats are shitty outdated cults that attract shitty privileged kids and group them together to make a shit echo chamber and jerk each other off saying how cool they are. I know this, I was in one. Frats create terrible environments for racism/sexism to flourish cause kids can feel comfortable to express it and get positive feedback from peers. However, I did meet a ton of fantastic people within it and saw how positive it was for some kids to have a supportive peer system. Its naive to think that issues like sexual assault are relegated to frats and not a pervasive issue in our society though. In general, white privileged young men are naive shitheads because of boys will be boys mentality and toxic masculinity.

Social scenes are different at every college due to location/prestige/ demographics/funding whatever. I think something kind of like greek life has a place because you need some sort of organization for parties/ meeting people. My school didn’t let kids join greek life till sophomore year which I thought was great because it forced kids to make friends first without joining and then decide if they wanted to or not. A huge issue I saw with greek life was how sororities weren’t allowed to throw parties. Frats have to shoulder the costs of buying alcohol/ cleanup/ hosting and creates a dynamic where guys expect something from the women in return. The high cost of fraternity dues then contributes to lack of diversity.

Frat kids oftentimes make their whole personality their frat and that’s just as stupid as making any one thing your whole personality. Frats also have a high concentration of douchebags in general. However I’ve seen a lot of similar attitudes and types of guys in skiing, climbing, organized sports, and anywhere there’s drinking.

tldr: Douchebags will douchebag, frats reward and embolden them. Social organizations are cool, greek life in its current form is toxic.
 
I think Frats are great for people to discover their sexuality in a shielded community. The stereotype they all own is the standard sports party douche, but by having freshman initiations where they have to do a bunch of Gay trials (like do blow off others dick or kiss each other) lets them justify it and lets them leave college with a taste of cock.

tbf the school i go to is a tech school so 90% of guys there are at not completely vapid douches, and a lot of the frats are less than stereotypical. it’s probably way worse at big schools. but mfs have such a one dimensional idea of greek life cuz they were in a group project with a frat guy who was a douche or something. kids on this site have such a superiority complex lmao
