the GOP is trying to distance itself from palin. she may have energized the stupid legion of morons who make up part of the GOP base, but she absolutely horrified the intelligent conservatives. by distancing themselves from her (especially since she said she believes she is a permanent fixture of the GOP) the republican party can repair its damaged relations with intelligent people. stupid people who liked palin don't matter because the reason they liked her was that she was stupid and anti-intellectual.
