fox news is great!

Good stuff... I'm amazed the Fox lawyers aren't going after these former Murdoch employees, or that Fox isn't starting a witchhunt. Still, I don't think it's sensational enough to sell to many people. Jon Du Pre's interview was particularly damning to the notion that Fox reports news, though. You're right, however. Most of us knew this.

they had a little thing on fox the other day about that where they went through like 10 clips from the movie and then showed them in context... along with a press conference where the filmmaker walked out rather than answer some questions.... pretty weak if you ask me.

Did the context somehow make it so those WEREN'T vicious indictments of the practices of the comedy net-er, Fox news? Because many of those apparently complete sentences didn't sound like they were saying good things. If they managed to screw around with that...well... that's some damn skillful editing.

Out of curiosity, who was holding the press conference? How did there come to BE a press conference? There wasn't one for F9/11. This puzzles me.

I'm sorry... black people are afraid of water? I was not aware. Thank you, Mr Murdoch. You've done a great service to your country by educating your viewers. I swear, FNC is one of the most brilliantly funny channels I've ever seen, and they just keep getting better. Bravo, Fox News. Bravo.

There are more clips from the film at outfoxed.org, as has been mentioned.

Outfoxed examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, have been running a 'race to the bottom' in television news. This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know.

^sounds kinda like cnn or msnbc, hmmmm

CNN is a horrible news providing channel aswel. BBC is the most reliable I have watched, and that is becuase it provides a relatively unbiased report.

In the film 'Outfoxed,' four people are identified as former employees of FOX News. FOX News officials, saying their employment history was misrepresented, issued the following clarification:

• Alexander Kippen is referred to as a “former FOX News producer when in fact he was never employed by FOX News Channel. He was an employee of WTTG-TV, a FOX affiliate** in Washington, DC.

• Frank O'Donnell is referred to as a “FOX News producer in film materials, which is factually incorrect. O’Donnell worked for FOX affiliate WTTG** from 1984 — 1991 and was never a FOX News Channel employee.

• Jon Du Pre was hired in 1999 as a reporter for FNC’s Los Angeles bureau, not an anchor as the film material states. His contract was not renewed in 2002 because, as his personnel file states, he was considered to be a weak field correspondent and could not do live shots. At the time his contract was not renewed, Du Pre was applying for an anchor position on FOX News Channel.

• Clara Frenk was a pool booker, not a “producer in the FOX News Channel Washington, D.C., bureau. She worked at FNC from February 1998 until March 1999 and expressed no concern about the editorial process while she was employed here.

**FOX affiliates are run independently and overseen by FOX Television Stations Inc. FOX affiliates are separate entities from FOX News Channel. FOX News has no editorial oversight of any FOX affiliate.

look, just because that trailer featured 20 people saying 'flip flop' doesnt make it unfair. any of those people could have been saying 'john kerry is not a flip flopper' and his 'flip flopper could have been put into the trailer. i mean, come on. this movie is produced by moveon.org. if that doesnt tell you something then, you you have problems. anyone can take things blatantly out of context for their own personal use. using that technique, you could even make cnn look like it has a conservative bias. you all need to see this for what it really is, a joke. its just an attempt to discredit a fair news organization, just because it doesnt have a bias in favor of the liberals. fox news is targeted because it IS fair and balanced and because it tells the truth about world issues, unlike the other major media stations.

look okay one example

they put a quote from sean hannity. he said, 100? days till americans reelect president bush.'

what they failed to include was that alan colmes also had a countdown till 'we elect john kerry as president.'

you cant just use clips from a channel to determine whether or not they are biased. you have to watch hours of regular broadcasts to determine it. and my view is that they are fair.

okay, so i just took the time to watch the trailer... and um... hello. i would venture to say that no less than 100% of those 2 second clips were taken out of context. how is this percentage reached? because they were only 2 seconds long, if that, and to be viewed contextually in that space of time is impossible. that was an even bigger joke than i thought it would be. honestly. and the then penultimate capstone to the entire thing was the evil looking fox head over which was superimposed the grand and venerable names of moveon.org and the center for american progress. freaking rediculous.

now, by no means am i going to stand up and say that fox is the paragon for unbiased news in the world today, but if the stats about the spurrious nature of the so called 'fox employees' is true, then that combined with the trailer that i just watched is laughable.

if you look at 'outfoxed' objectively, independant of what you might think of fox news, then surely you must conceeede the exceedingly rediculous nature of the entire project.

i expect this of jaross, but mr may, im supprised.

If that's true about those employees, then this thing just lost a whole lot of credibility. Now, those 'flip flopper' quotes were certainly taken out of context, but can anyone here honestly tell me they've heard a Fox employee say 'Kerry is NOT a flip flopper'? If this documentary is as sketchy as you guys are making it out to be, though, then I'll just have to use common sense when I call FNC a joke. Anyone who actually watches that looking for a fair report of the issues, please know, as I'm laughing at O'Reilly, I'm also laughing at you. How can you people actually think this stuff is balanced?

first of all the kerry is not a flip flopper thing was just an example. they might have been saying anything with 'flip flopper' in the sentence. thats all i was trying to say.

also, im not saying that fox news is the perfect news source and that all their news is perfectly balanced, cause we all know that this is not completely possible. im just saying that fox is not this conservative satan that this movie makes it out to be.

im basing it mostly now on having seen that trailer... and on the fnc they would show a little clip from the film, and then show the 20 seconds preceeding or following the clip, to show the context, and um... it made quite a differnce... so, im basing my irritation on both bits of info...

Conservative satan? no...It's more of a conservative joke... a White House Field office, one might say. Amusing, and more amusing still given that there are actually people who buy it. Has anyone scrounged up anything to counter these memos that the movie claims were sent to FNC?

from what ive seen from the memos in the movie, they didnt display a whole lot of damning info. if those quotes were the worst things that moveon.org could pull out of context from the memos, than they probably werent that bad.

^Anewmorning, I was talking to this guy as he tries to recover from the statement 'fox news is targeted because it IS fair and balanced and because it tells the truth about world issues'. Now, since I must take what you say from now on with a grain of salt, I'll present this cautiously. Do you not see a problem, no matter what those memos might have requested from FNC, with the White House dictating to a media outlet what it should present as news?

That was supposedly the point of the whole thing. Moody received the 'message of the day' from the reps (and yes, it is a solid fact that the republicans decide on certain messages, which members of their constituency ((ie: Coulter, Limbaugh)) are informed of, and asked to address). He then asked his reporters to adress these issues in a particular way. Now, assuming these things are genuine for the moment (which may be in doubt), that casts a rather nasty shadow on the network as a whole.

Personally, I think analyzing humor kills it, and they should just leave Fox News alone.

Is their any information that suggests that the Republicans do not issue this information to other media outlets or all of the major ones? Also, is there any information that states that the democrats do not have a message of the day that they distribute to media outlets?

yeah... both parties have their little 'talking points' that become the weekly dogma. and if the republicans were indeed sending their daily schpeel to an allegedly unbiased news source, and they then adheared to it, well then, that should be known, or at least the channel would have to identify itself as a kind of talk radio for tv, and not claim objectivity... i dont really think that that would hurt them in the least... theyed probably get more popular.

Exactly the point, Moody is a high-ranking fox exec, who apparently took these high-rep-priority issues and laid out how he wanted them reported on. I realize I wasn't clear earlier, I'm not accusing the Republicans of deliberately influencing the reporting that went on, but their perspective was nonetheless made into the news that was being reported.

so we know that moody sent memos throughout fox news channel telling what he wanted stressed in the reporting. does anyone have any evidence that there were specific ties between moody and republican leaders? cause if there were, that would be a huge issue. however, im not convinced that there is any proof of this, other than the testimonies of the other 'fox employees'. and in my view, they probably have other motives for what they are saying.

It seemed to me that the requests made in those memos were alleged to be identical to the republican 'talking points', as Anew put it. I doubt there's proof that the Republicans were actually going down to FNC headquarters and telling them what to report.

jsut atleast see the movie. i just saw it and it answeres alot of th stuff you guys are argueing about. the notes that were being passes to the anchors at fox directly pointed out a way to make Kerry look worse then Bush. and i am not sure about this but if they are a fox affilate, doesnt that mean a large part of each persions paycheck comes from fox?

^did the end of that makes sense to anyone else? and you still havent answered the question about who the memos came from. Just cause they were passed from the VP to the anchorman, doesnt mean anything. thats all within fox news and is all legal. if the VP thinks a less left news station is more profitable, then its his right to make it that way.

it is legal, your right but it does make a biased network! what i was saying was: arnt the fox affilates payed by fox? (look near the beginning of this thread. there is abit about how those people were nissrepresented in the movie beucase they arnt actually emploiees of fox. mabey they arnt but if fox controlls weather they had a job or not for sort of controlls them!

to address the first part of your arguement, id say that that conservative bias is definately there. and that no station can be completely free of bias, yet, i would argue that it is a lot less biased than cnn and the others.

and to address the second id say that those people were not who they were presented to be, which takes away a lot of their credibility. also, they may have other motives (ie, money) for the claims that they are making in the movie.
