Alright ladies and gents...

This is a preliminary

posting regarding some extremely vague information about an event that

will be hosted in Downtown Cincinnati by the University of Cincinnati

Alpine Race Team, Red Bull Energy Drinks, and Perfect North Slopes. We

are calling it "Fountain Freestyle" and it is going to be a rail jam

event in the middle of Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati. The

event (unfortunately) is going to start at 6:00am tentatively and go on

through morning rush hour in order to attract the most amount of

onlookers. Unfortunately this is all I know about the event at this

point but I will keep you all posted when I get some more information

from our Red Bull representative...

Have a good one fellas!

Fountain Freestyle is now OFFICIAL!!! READ!!!

Location: Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati

Date: March 19, 2008

Time: STARTING at 6:00am and going on throughout the day (the reason it

is starting that early is we want to have a decent amount people

hitting the rails during morning rush hour).

What:

Currently planning on setting up 4 rails which will be accessed via a

12 foot drop in AND the Red Bull winch (usually used for wake boarding

events). Jam style event... we may make up some contests as the day

wears on (possibly a version of "skate" for the rails, who knows!)...

all rider judged.

More Info: Currently we plan on driving

three dump truck loads of snow to Fountain Square overnight before the

event (we don't want anyone to see the actual rails getting setup...

for the "what the fuck!?" factor). We have access to camera locations

on two of the adjacent buildings on Fountain Square overlooking the

event. We also have access to three HD cameras and wireless

transmission devices and full access to the JumboTron that is on top of

the building Palomino's is in. Therefore, you will be on the Big

Screen skiing rails in downtown Cincinnati... yea... pretty sick.

So... I would like for you to all let it sink in how sick this actually

is... being able to ski LEGAL urban (even though they are Perfects'

rails) in the middle of Fountain Square with your skiing being on the

JumboTron. And as far as I know at this point there will be no costs

for the riders but I will let you know for sure when I do. At this

point the only thing you need to bring are your skis/board and I will

post up the liability form when it becomes available to me from Red

Bull.

REQUEST: We would LOVE it if you could help us setup

the event. We need to do this all in one night and we all know how

difficult that sounds. If you would like to help be a part of

something big and help the event go as smooth as possible, please let

me know! Remember... this is the FIRST year of this event so you may

expect a few kinks in the whole process, but I don't foresee any at

this point. If this event goes smoothly this year... expect BIG things

for next year's event!

Have a nice day and don't wear yourselves out to death at PFCinco! hahaha

-Chris

I am not positive on the exact time that the event will end yet... I will try to find out a more concrete on that answer and get back to you.

So what do we tell our pricipals, "Goin to ski on fountain square, consider it a vacation, thanks for understanding ill pick up homework thurs"? haha

After further consideration, the date and time sounds dumb.

How many riders do you think are going to show up on a Wednesday morning at 6AM?

People at 6AM in Cincinnati are not going to stop and watch, they're trying to get to work. You might have a few bystanders, but on a Wednesday morning at 6AM, my bet is you will have VERY few riders and VERY few spectators.

Try a Firday night at 9PM, when everyone is out having fun with no set schedule, and they can walk by and go "Holy hell, Jimmy! Look at that!" and they will stop and watch. You also will have a ton more riders to throw down a lot cooler stuff. More riders+More spectators=EPIC.

People have things to do and places to be at 6AM on a Wednesday.

if its gonna be that early its gotta be on a non school day. i dont know how many people would show up for it. if u make it like say good friday (everybodys off) or during the evening rush hour i think u'll get a higher turn out. either way im gonna beg the rents 2 write me outta school

You guys are acting like they did it on purpose... they had a reason for this... the city wont let them do it another time... and its not like a 1 time thing... yea you might nto get people out there at 6 am but as soon as it hits like 10 or 11 people will be out having late breakfast early lunch or just chillin, idk bout u guys but i still think its gonna be tight

The idea is pretty sick but i agree with tribefan....it should be a little later for the kids that go to school..haha no offense

yet again they cant choose... do u realize that the city of cincinati is letting them set up a skiing contest in southern ohio in the middle of the city lol

I really thought I touched on this earlier... it STARTS at 6am and will be going on all day long. The reason we are starting it at 6am is for a few reasons...

1) Red Bull, Perfect North, and our ski team will be there all night long setting up the event and our goal is to have everything ready to go by 6am.

2) Once 6am rolls around we are planning on opening up the course for riders to come and start jamming on it... if you absolutely can't make it down there at that time, then come later rather than not at all.

3) I have a feeling that we are going to need to work out a few kinks once the event gets started and it will be better to get them out of the way early in the morning rather than to start the event in the afternoon and get hung up for whatever time with audio/video problems.

4) I would absolutely love to have this event go down on a weekend night under the lights on Fountain Square... but good luck! haha Red Bull basically told Fountain Square what they/we wanted to do and they gave us a date and we were more than happy to take it and run with it.

Any other questions I will be more than happy to either answer them myself or find out the answers for you guys! It is obviously the first year that this event is going to be held but if everything goes smoothly like we really believe that it will... you guys can look forward for some bigger things to come on Fountain Square next year and the years following!

I'm really interested to see how many people show up for this... it sounds pretty sick but most people have work or school. I don't see fountain square offering bigger and better things in the future if three people show up for this. I honestly hope theres a bunch of riders there but I have my doubts.

So since its a jam, is it gonna be a comp or just a fun little jib sesh downtown.

And if so are there prizes, I really dont care its sick that we can Jib downtown, such sick shots for our movie.

And since I will prolly end up help setting up the event since can i still get in and take some laps

hopefully like 40 people. dont want too many or it wouldnt be so good. i went to a rail jam once that was packed and only got like 5 hits

I'm not sure on what prizes there might be down there if any. However, I am sure that it will still be going at 2:00 so don't worry about that too much.

you've probably already thought of this, but...

wouldn't starting around 3-4 in the afternoon be better? you have all day to set up in the light, instead of in the dark. you still have rush hour traffic, and in the evening more people will be likely to stop and watch as opposed to the morning when people need to get to work on time. and you will have a better turn out between kids getting out of school and people like myself who can take a half day at work and still make it.

from what i understand it should still be going at 3-4ish. i like the all day idea cuz it will spread out the crowd of riders more.

o yeah is this gunna be set up like a straight up urb style ( snow ramp - rail - snow landing - concrete, and no snow under the rail in case u slip off) or will there be snow around the rails so we dont have to worry about trashing our skis. this is pretty much the deciding factor for me lol

im sure it will be set up with snow around the rails, if they do bring 3 dumptrucks we would should have more than enough snow to work with, anyways this is something you would prolly want to use your urban skis for anyways.

We will make the area around the rails as safe as possible for yourself and your gear... no worries there. For two reasons... one is that we don't want to see people's gear get thrashed and the other is that we definitely do not want anyone to get injured at this event for multiple reasons.

I am having a meeting with Tad from Perfect North and our Red Bull reps at the end of this week to finalize which rails they will be bringing down to Fountain Square for the event and I will let everyone know exactly which rails will be down there. As for how they are going to be setup... I'm not going to tell you guys because...

1) We want it to at least be a little bit of a suprise!

2) Since this is our first year having this event, it will mostly be an on-the-fly setup. Once everything is down there it will be much easier to visualize exactly how we want everything setup.

3) If the riders don't like the setup/prefer a little change... we will be more than happy to accomodate the resetting of the rails if time permits.

Any other questions feel free to ask!

We have a meeting setup for the end of this week and I will ask one of our Red Bull reps what approximate time that he thinks we will be wrapping things up and I will post a time on here as soon as I find out.

my guess from the rails that will be there go like this 10 and 16ft flat small kink and the small round rail

As far as registration goes... I will either post the insurance waiver form on here in PDF format if it becomes available to me or you will need to fill one out when you get down to Fountain Square. We will be easy to spot so just come up to one of and get yourself registered for the event. There will be no deadline for registration so just register when you get down there.

And to my knowledge this event will be free... MEANING... don't be an idiot and show up and start skiing without registering (filling out your insurance waiver form).

As far as when the event will end... like I said before I will let you know the minute I find out which should be by tomorrow.

The meeting between our team, Tad (Perfect North), and Red Bull is going to go down at 11am tomorrow (Friday, March 7). I will be able to tell you guys a lot more information regarding more specific times and other things after that. Be sure to check back tomorrow afternoon for more details!!!

UPDATE:

Rails: 16' Flat Bar, 10' Flat Bar, 18' Down Kink, and 16' Round Bar
