FOUND TEH MISSING LINK

platypusdarwinrj7.jpg

I'm slightly new to the evolution game so correct me if I'm wrong.
This missing step in evolution came about because a monkey screwed a lemur, hence lemur-monkey.
Does that mean that to progress into a truly dominant race, we should get frisky with some gnarly animals, I'm thinking; lions, wolves, wolverine's, honey badgers.
Oh and I've had a couple to drink.

Wow. Historic mythreads today.

You do know what this means, don't you? Not only can we trace our entire ancestry into the animal kingdom, but this proves that the theory of Evolution is now correct. This means that all religions are now bunk. THIS IS HUGE! I don't know if you guys have thought about this, but this is a huge crisis for a lot of people. Things are going to change. Big changes. I can't even believe it. So many things have been brought to light now that this fucking German let go of the missing link he had for 25 years.

Believe it or not, i think billions of people still believe in organized religion. Everything people had against them was still skepticism up until this point. Now, we have proof.

You do realize that this doesn't really mean anything?

I mean sure, it will make the scientific community happy. But it's just a bit more evidence confirming something everyone knew in the first place. Religions aren't going to suddenly go "Oh, you're right!" and stop existing.

Okay so not to rain on any parading going on here, but this is not really the missing "link", there is not really a missing link, rather links, each representing a departure of the human lineage from the animal kingdom, in this case the toes and bone features i think. this is simply the oldest known relative to both humans and apes. The true "link" that would prove evolution would be an explanation for the roughly 3% of DNA that is different between humans and cimpanzees (our closest living relative, assumed to be the most recent branch in our evolutionary tree). finding this difference would enable us to say "here it is, this is what makes you not a fucking chimp, right here this mutation or event or whatever it is is the reason we developed larger brains and resulted in our intelligence and consciousness and humanness." once we can explain that divergence or whatever the most recent divergence is we can have proof of evolution. However, This is still a retardedly huge discovery for science tho and these scientists are going to be heralded as leaders in their field as they should be because they have put us one step closer to finding the answers to these questions.

I believe the technology for this is coming and we'll know soon enough. It's amazing how exponentially quick we, as a human race, can learn.

This didnt really prove evolution. Evolution has been considered scientific fact for a long long time already.

I highly doubt this one fossil will change ignorant creationist's minds at all. They ignore every single piece of evidence for evolution already, one more fossil wont do anything.

you do realize that evolution can just say how God created...

its only those crazy churches that believe the world was created in 6,000 years.

Yeah, what about people that believe that evolution is real, but was set in place by god? Where does that leave me?

It's not the missing link either, stop getting it twisted.

evolution is still a theory actually. it has not been proven. it is an idea that is supported by a significant body of evidence, but it has not been accepted as scientific fact. gravity is still just a theory.

Evolution is a fact when it comes to describing the changes in biological changes in organisms in a population over time. That cannot be disputed as it has been witnessed. It is a fact.

The theory of evolution refers to "modern evolutionary synthesis", which describes how these changes take place.

wait so ur saying that the fossil is only part of the missing link and that we need more pieces of the link (like more fossils) to prove evolution?

btw i'm not disagreeing, just wondering

I think what he was trying to say is, this is only one "link" and there has to be many more different fossilized species to fill in the gaps, what we have now is a fossil with characteristics that humans have. It is not THE missing link, rather one of many. Evolution is accepted widely, we see it every day. Species adapt and change depending on their environment, and we can see that in variations in characteristics of animals. However to prove that we evolved from the animal kingdom the whole "chain" would be needed, not just a lemur with thumbs and fingernails.

Why am I supposed to believe that this is the end all be all to the argument? There are still way too many holes in evolution for it to be taken seriously

just get the fuck out of here. you make logical modern christians look bad.

DISREGARD HIS POSTS: HE BELIEVES IN "REEFER MADNESS".

Alright, this is what I'm talking about. Anyone who has different views then the majority on here are immediately demonized. Why don't you attack my argument instead of me?

And secondly, I didn't say I don't believe in the finding or what it holds for science. All I'm saying is that it doesn't completely fill all the gaps in evolution. Is that good enough for you?

dude, take it easy- no need for harsh words like that.
he's just trying to enlighten you... to the fact that you have your head ALL the way up your ass and it would benefit everyone if you removed it as soon as you're done shitting in your own mouth. seriously, go beat your head against the wall until it turns into a bloody mass on top of your neck- everything you say is such horseshit that i'm pretty sure you believe everything your parents ever told you. you and retard cunt, Jenifa, should hang out.

thats not quite how it works. Using the scientific method, people assemble observations or "facts" i.e. apple falls from the tree, and from these facts they form a "theory" as to how they all fit together, ie the theory of gravity is used to describe observations of things having mass attracting each other. I mean yeah its just kind of a word debate, but its kind of misleading to say "oh its just a theory" because the word theory is in some ways is stronger than the word fact.

is gravity a theory or law?

"Well, "Gravitational Theory" is our explanation of the phenomenon we know as 'gravity'.

It is a law of gravity that if you drop an object here, it will fall to

the ground, but it is Gravitational Theory that explains how and why

this occurs.

Gravity is a law, but we understand and explain it through a theory. It is both ; )"

Evolution is both a theory and a law. I believe i posted this earlier in the thread... Just wikipedia 'evolution as theory and fact.'

wait a second

Does no one else remember that when Darwin died, he admitted that their was a God?

Maybe not the exact wording, but i believe that he did admit that

This is most likely a complete lie that was made up by creationists. Just like how they all quotemine to make it sound like all the famous scientists and atheists actually believe in god, when its simply not the case.

also, even if Darwin did believe in a god, that has absolutely nothing to do with Evolution...

also, "there"
