you ought to get a kick out of this:

January 30, 2005 -- BAGHDAD — The man replacing the mayor of Baghdad — who was assassinated for his pro-American loyalties — says he is not worried about his ties to Washington.

In fact, he'd like to erect a monument to honor President Bush in the middle of the city.

'We will build a statue for Bush,' said Ali Fadel, the former provincial council chairman. 'He is the symbol of freedom.'

Fadel's predecessor, Ali al-Haidari, was gunned down Jan. 4 when militants opened fire on his armor-covered BMW as it traveled with a three-car convoy.

Fadel said he received numerous threats on his life as the council chairman, and expects to get many more in his new post.

'My life is cheap,' Fadel said. 'Everything is cheap for my country.'

As Iraq prepared for a volatile election that is being watched across the world, Fadel heaped praise on the United States.

Fadel acknowledged that many in his country appear ungrateful for America's foreign assistance. He said most Iraqis are still in 'shock' over the changes, and need time to adjust.

Any public monument to Bush is likely to further incense terrorist forces, who have attacked American troops and their supporters for months.

Fadel said he is undaunted.

'We have a lot of work and we are especially grateful to the soldiers of the U.S.A. for freeing our country of tyranny,' Fadel said.

As for his own protection, the new mayor will be traveling in a new $150,000 SUV complete with bulletproof windows and flat-resistant tires.

HAHAHAHA that is the best thing I have heard all day!! I mean how is he not a giant symbol of freedom!

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

It is finally good to hear something positive about America from someone who is not a citizen of the country. I have been living in England since August and have not heard anything but bad things about the country that I am from. I don't agree with all of the things that Bush has done, but I don't think that he should take all of the slack he does. Although I don't agree with the war in Iraq, I am glad to hear that some people appreciates Bush.

Bush is not a symbol of freeedom. He is directley responisble for the holding of people at Guantanamo Bay with virtually no human rights WITHOUT TRIAL. This is the biggest breach of human liberty by a western nation since NAZI concentration camps. Bush preaches about freedom and democracy all the time and does this. Its all bullshit. Hes a dick.

theres the first real bush/fascist post... just had to wait for it...

Our President, a symbol of freedom. That man once said that he respected 'Prime Minister Poutine'.

open up, we're coming inside. What's it feel like to know you're gonna die?

Okay, so the guy misspeaks on occasion, we all know that.

Now to Putin. Putin has been playing poker since he took office. The whole world bought his bluff for years and it hasn't been until recently that he has begun to show his cards. You must recall how many Liberals cheered Putin for not backing us in Iraq and how he and the Germans (who have a gov't that sinking faster than the titanic), and French were the worldly model of how our Gov't should be.

Putin once seemed honorable to many, now you can see the red of communism, the old flag of the USSR in the black of his eyes. Putin is slowly reinstating the cold war, eliminating citizen rights, building a nuclear arsenal, rebuilding the Russian spy intelligence program, and consistently praising the dictoral Stalin. Its pretty scary actually.

wow, there is one guy in iraq that likes bush. that made my day becuase i didnt know what before (scarcasim). of corse they were able to find a guy who likes bush, im sure there are a few in iraq. bush is still a fucker, and i really dont see how this is such an amazing story at all. some politician in iraq wants to build a statue of bush, big deal, that doesnt mean the most iraquies like bush (and no im not implying anything with that statement, other then you cant assume that most iraqies like what we are doing there. for msot, it is all they can do to get a bite of food in a day.)

well he only got the majority of the votes once. and i bet if gore won the last time and we were in a similar situation, he would have won again becuase aparently the american people simply dont like change.

what a hypocritical joke. every single politician in post-war Iraq was either put in place by the Amerikan government, or appointed by someone who was. a statue of bush in bahgdad is not a symbol of respect, its propaganda.

wow its a little thing called propaganda...bush loves to use it and bush cheated his way into office the first time...there is nothing american or constitutional about that you idiot

'He is directley responisble for the holding of people at Guantanamo Bay with virtually no human rights WITHOUT TRIAL. This is the biggest breach of human liberty by a western nation since NAZI concentration camps' -Posted by InTheFridge

I would just like to call attention to how insanely ridiculous this statement is. Yes the prisoners at guantanamo bay are being held, but it is not even close to nazi concentration camps and really is unable to be compared to that. Are the inmates at guantanamo bay being killed by the THOUSANDS every single day? Are the inmates recieving rations of under 200 calories a day? I could go on and on. Also, if you think this is the 'biggest breach of human liberty by a western nation,' you really havent been paying attention since world war two. Just look at the many examples in south american countries, for example venezuela or columbia.

jibba jabba

Bahahahahaha, Bush a symbol of freedom! Thats hilarious, he might want to do some history homework to get a better person for his statue.

Oh yea, let us laud our good president in his valiant and crusading efforts to liberate the persecuted people of Iraq, let us acknowledge his superioro intellect and mastery of the English language. Ah yes, our president, the epitome of freedom fighter.

Gee... $150,000 new SUV, I believe they call that padding the pockets...

That statue will not stand for a month if it is erected within the year.

(Before you try and assail me with attempts at articulate and disparaging responses, note the sarcasm pervading the entire post.)

yeah so because the prisoners arent treated like total shit it makes it ok to hold them with no trial. i definetly wouldnt compare it to the nazis but it is still fucking disgusting

all i got to say is that 76% of the pepole voted in the iraq election thats a good sign that the pepole like what we are doing over there in the fact that we are giveing them the right to chose.im not saying that all that has happend over there is good but this is a sign of things to come.

Of course SkiFree919...

We don't even entirely know how the prisoners at Guantanamo (and other prison camps across the world under US operation) are being treated. We don't know what conditions they are living in, interrogation tactics, or if there's any torture methods. We won't know any of that for years. It may not be Auschwitz, but its not walk in the park.

Why just two days ago I read in the paper that US Army officer reported that the use of fake menstrual (yep, fake period blood) was smothered on the faces of prisoners to seduce them into talking.

Or Abu Ghraib - because I mean, we are the stalwart patrons of ethical imprisonment.

You also might want to do a little homework on Jose Pidilla and see what the last few years of his life have been like...

^I actually read that article in the Ny times was it? also. I agree the abu garib(sp) was defintely pretty bad, but you cant say they have been the worst conditions for since the nazis. I mean honestly comparing the prison on guantanamo to the nazis is defintley over exaggerating it a little bit. I didn't even want Bush to win the past election so im not a bush supporter.

But on topic, that article is truly hilarious. I think the insurgents in Iraq would have a field day with a statue of Bush. Just think what they would do to it.

jibba jabba

Yeah, why would you want a 150000 dollar SUV with armor when at any moment at any time you are the potential target of countless insurgents. Geeeeee. I too wonder where that money came from. Maybe all the oil they have there. Oh wait, the insurgents find it a better idea to torch their own pipelines. Its probably a good idea though, because they were actually pumping straight into the Pentagon and GW's car. One actually pumps straight into his belly. I propose that the new mayor of Baghdad, instead, put up multiple statues of fellas with RPGs and AK47's that are shooting people with ballots in their hands. These people are the true uniters and liberators of their own country.

signatures are for pussies

^hhahahaha.....you got there first, i was about to say the same thing. And to the person that said 'oh, one guy in Iraq likes Bush. Some great story' i hope you realize how stupid that sounded. When was the last time you were in Iraq? When did you talk to people in Iraq face to face? How do you know that most people in Iraq arent happy about what Bush is doing but they are too afraid to say it, as doing so would probably get them killed? think a little before you make a general statement like that, buddy, as it only proves graves, ice-is-scary, and my points.

So weenox, when was your last tour of Iraq?

I'm assuming you haven't been to Iraq lately either.

Now I'm not saying the guy is right, and I'm not agreeing with you either.

But I find it slightly unreasonable to call someone an idiot for not visiting a country you haven't visited either. Don't ride a horse without hooves.

(Of course if you've been to Iraq (I doubt it) or are intimately in contact with someone who has recently traveled there, then my post is moot.)

EC-Andrew, sorry for not clearing that up, but i do have a cousin in Iraq. Last time i talked to him he asked me to send him bandaids, cuz all the little Iraqi kids coming running to the troops when they get hurt. He says that the majority of people still cant really express their opinion of the matter because of the insurgency and the risk to their lives. I just think its stupid that nobody really has asked the Iraqi peoples' opinion, when they are really the only people that matter in this issue.

30 years from now history will be the judge of George W. Bush, not present day pundits. Just as history was the judge for the likes of Lincoln, FDR, and Teddy Roosevelt. Three presidents who many citizens did not like what they were doing at the time but history later proved that their actions were the proper ones.

No no, some opposition is always needed and is good and some like jumping on bandwagons, and some people's opinion and insights end at 'I hate war, therefore, I hate Bush,' and some would rather leave hard tasks alone.

thats pretty shitty becuase if we would rather jsut leave hard tasks alone, then why are standing up against Bush in the first place. it owuld be easyer and less stressful jsut to go along with his bullshit.

and while i have decent respect for anewmorning becuase he argues his point well, this was a pitaful thread. of corse that guy is ok with Bush, he has American ties. we gave him his job after all. he is rich and therefore mostlikley doesnt represent the majority of iraqis. and no, again, im not trying to imply that the majority of iraqis dont like bush, that is a different arguement, that i dont beleve anyone knows enough to come to a conclution on.

it was, 'hey bush haters, this will make you mad, and it will be kind of amusing'

how can you compare bush to fdr and lincoln, lincoln freed the slaves and saved the union, fdr pulled us out of the depression and sucessfully defended our country from a real threat (the japs and nazis), what has bush done, he has staged the bullshit invasion of iraq, we arent any safer and 1400 american soldiers are dead and a country is divided

ya and those 'weapons of mass distrusction' that were 'there' in the first place. where are they? the american populous thoought that they were there and a threat but where r they eh?
