Welp, its in theaters, I went and saw it... Wether you think its a load of horse shit, you think micheal moore is god, or you sit somewhere inbetween, I'd recomend seeing it.

I'd be interested to see what people think that have ACTUALLY SEEN IT as well.

Well I saw it tonight, and frankly I was disappointed. The media played it up to much as an expose and damning film that would actually have an effect on the upcoming election. Well I can honestly saw that this film would not swing one voter on the fence even if was all greased up. I thought it was simply bad filmmaking and I found Bowling For Columbine much more intriguing and interesting. I went and saw it with a couple of friends who were a little more moderate and a little less die hard republican then myself, and on several occasions I had to convince them not to walk out of it during the Bush bashing. I was prepared for the Bush bashing so I just about overlooked that aspect of the film, however there were parts that drew my attention and angered me.

1) Moore jumps from fact to fact about Bush but never draws a line. In the beginning of the film Moore just stated fact after fact about Bush and the Bin laden family and the Saudi Royal family, yet he had no evidence to back up his claims of some sort of arms dealing conspiracy with the Bush family. Instead he relies on assertion and speculation to drive his point home. He supplies no concrete evidence to support his claims.

2) Moore targets the soldiers of the United States armed forces, yet he later tries to defend them against Bush. In the first segment about the Iraq war Moore depicts the soldiers as dimwitted country bumpkins who just want to shoot some 'towel heads' and listen to hard rock. However, later he tries to side with the soldiers against Bush and the war. He is a blatant hypocrite who switches sides to maintain his audience.

3) During the segment with the congressmen Moore states that only one congressman has a child who is enlisted in the armed forces. However, this excludes the number of officers that are commissioned in the armed forces. It is just another one of Moore's tricky plots to deceive his audience.

Honestly, I don't care if you go see this movie because I don't think that it is well made enough to change anyone's vote. Even all the liberals who were in the theater with us gave it a lackluster 3 second applause and the one person yelled, 'Don't vote for Bush' and then everyone filed out neat and orderly to have a cigarette. I love the fact the Liberals in NC know that their vote won't matter and don't even try to fight it and they just remain semi-apathetic to the whole situation. Regardless, if you see this movie, don't go around regurgitating Moore's arguments and points, but find your own. Don’t let Moore think for you, find your own reason to hate the war and Iraq, but don't use his.

The movie was a huge let down from a liberal aspect, it wasn't sold out, and no one seemeed to glean anything from it. It was just a 'documentary' and it will not change peoples minds about Bush. I came out of it being more conservitive, hating Iraqis even more, and wanting to be even more active in the republican grassroots front. So, in my opinion, the movie was all hype and had little substance and just layed out an eradic and random argument that concretely said only one thing, Bush likes to go on vacation, and that is it.

moore just gave the facts, backed them up for the most part and let the audience make their own opinions and theories.

I don't hate the movie, and I don't see it as a threat because all it is, is a movie that makes liberals want to vote for Kerry and makes republicans want to call Moore a douche and thats it, not the big persausive film it was made out to be

I think this movie will do alot of good for Kerry, Bush really was made out to be a fool in the movie. There was alot of clear 'spinning' on Micheal Moore's part, and alot of his bashes on Bush were taken out of context, so they weren't quite the blows they were intended to be. Yet all in all this movie will make people look for some change, as the Bush party seems to be in it just for themselves and nto for the American people.

 
What I find pretty amusing is that the starter of this thread would be interested on what other people have to say, but then immediately gets defensive when an organized and responsible repost is made that is not in favour of said thread starters' views.

No I have not seen it yet, but will. Im not a big fan of Moore, but I found Bowling for Colombine pretty interesting whether I agreed or not.

as conan talked about last night with michael moore, it has been a long time since the left in this country has really stood up for itself against the loud, angry, powerful white men in right wing media outlets; this movie is about rallying the troops and getting people excited about politics and this election, which is good, no?

 
I saw it last night. I think that it was good, but a lot of the stuff in there was taken way out of context. If his goal was to make Bush look like a fool and convince people not to vote for him he did his job. BUT, I think if you look to this movie as a fair telling of the facts you're looking in the wrong place. While I'm by no means a Bush supporter, I was somewhat disappointed in Michael Moore, because I think he could have done a better job. Remember, everyone has their own agenda. But Vote Kerry.

I didn't get defensive, I was just commenting on somthing that I found ironic in his response. I think its pretty easy to take what peole say on a message board out of context. If I was being defensive about it I would have argued back on his points he made.

He's entiteld to his opinon, and even if I disagree with it, its still his right as an american to voice it, just as its Moore's right to voice his opinion.

i thought the movie helped bring a lot of issues to people who usually wouldn't look this deep into a presidents past. Anything that helps get more people politicaly active is a good thing becasue thats the problem is that people don't care and think that they can't make a differnce in the gov't. we need a much higher level of political efficacy in this country especilly amoungst younger voters.

As for bush in general and a lot of his connections to oil and the saudis i think it raises an interesting question of what he and his close friends and family members have to gain through his actions which are intern the actions of our contry. I disagree with A LOT of his policies especilly his stance on womens and gay rights and the idea of the draft.

Saw the film this evening.

I thought Moore did a good job of putting the film together, and he gets me questioning.

But here's a question: for those of you that don't think the Bush bashing was well founded- can it really be coincidental that the majority of the shots involving Bush portray him as an absolute moron? All presidents have had their moments, but it seems that whenever I see Bush giving a speech or attempting to answer a question, he just studders through his statement and makes no sense overall.

I enjoyed the film overall. I'm glad that Moore produced the film.

And I'll be voting for Kerry.

The today show is way right wing about the war, I though mike moores interview was so cruel, kind of sad. Not that we need more liberal shows or anything it's just i think most shows/papers/magazines/ should stay in the middle.

All micheal moore and ravin liberals ideas are clever editing or lack of the full story. You can take any situation and make it look bad. I just find it very stupid to do so in the war in iraq.
