I tore my acl last season, broke my binding and ski in the crash so I didnt hear a pop, my knee didnt really swell just got really stiff. I could walk but it would give out on me every now and again. If you can go to the best sports medicine doc's in your area they do the most knee work and know their shit. My general doctor said I had a knee sprain then I went to a sports med doc and he felt my knee for probably 5 seconds and told me that I had a torn acl. also if you do have a torn acl talk with your doc about your options, i personaly had a patellar tendon graft, my doctor said that it would be the strongest but he also said that it would be the most painful and longest recovery. he also said that the popular "cadaver" graft could be from anyone (think of having a 60 year olds acl) they try hard to get someone around the same age but its not always possible. there is also something like a 1 in 300,000 chance of getting infected with some disease from the transplant (per my doctor). hope this helps, if you have any questions man let me know.
