For those of you who have a go pro hd with a chest harness

what resolution should i use? 4 or 5? i havnt used mine yet and im not sure if 5 will capture my skis/poles when on the chest harness. but 4 has less quality than 5. anyone figure this out yet?
 
I'm not trying to be rude, but...Why not take a few test runs yourself, just to see what is working and what is not. Then turn back and tell us about it :)
 
well i dont want to fuck up the whole day of filming. its not like i can take a run and then see how it looks at the bottom. theres no screen...

im just seeing if anyone has compared them before, if they havnt, then ill compare them
 
I shoot mine in 720p and wide mode. The VERY IMPORTANT THING is to angle the camera forward (and more than just a finger). I first tried mine slammed all the way to the back of the mount and found that the camera pointed too high when things got really steep. Best advice is to mount it, look in a mirror, and angle it forward so it's pointing a bit downward (as you're leaning back while skiing often).

haha interstingly enough, im taking it to whis for my first time as well, and theres going to be lots of fresh too......
 
r3 or r4 mode.

r4 is going to give you more vertical pixels but it is 4:3 aspect ratio (square) so is really only good for the web. the 1080 mode (r5) has so little vertical view i never even use it.

I shoot with either r2 or r3. r3 is 720p60, looks just like r2 (720p30) but when you slomo the footage it looks awesome. eats up more memory tho.

what format to choose all depends on what you want to do with it...

i say shoot in r2, widest lens with 16:9 widescreen ratio.

 
ya i filmed in r3 today and i didnt get much else but my skis. im gonna try r4 next time. i really like the chest harness. i think the footage would probably be better on a helmet mount but in terms of convenience the chest harness is dope. also if i bail there is a lesser chance it will brake off and risk the chance of not finding it which is pretty important for me id say.
 
honest opinion. i'd prefer to see a bit more of whats ahead of you, not just directly infront of your skis. thats just me though. otherwise i enjoyed that.
 
i only use the r5 (1080p) for doing regular filming (panoramas, jumps, rails, etc)r4 i use for slowmo footage, mainly for trickery, jumps, rails, but also really sweet for powder slashesand r3 is my standard helmet cam definition.......
