For the ns fixie riders...

i didnt mean on newschoolers. just if you ask anybody whos slightly into fixies, they know about this.

A local fixie rider has one and he loves it, he upgraded a bunch of stuff though i cant remember what.

yeah ive ridden one a while back. they obviously arnt super high quality, but fine for a beginner. the only thing i noticed was the mad toe overlap on turns.

Yeah, but here's teh thing. You stupid fucking hipster buy an incredibly expensive bike that has nothing but accessory value (for you anyway), and then fuck it up by putting on stupid tiny handlebars and never riding it for its transportation value. Why don't you just not buy into such a stupid fucking trend, because it's honestly fucking up bikes for me. I've had to deal with you kids all the time with broken fixies cuz you know jack shit about bikes and don't even own a fucking set of allen wrenches. I didn't even return my tech job this year because it's 90% hipsters with conversions who wonder why their brand new head sets don't fit on a vintage road frame and they spray painted over the goddamn bottom bracket. Fuck you hipsters, and fuck your fixies.
/rant.

Aren't they allen keys?

and bike maintenance is pretty simple, you'd need to be functionally retarded not to be able to fix something.

Keys? I've heard that. I guess it differs from place to place. I've heard allen wrench and star wrench, and also allen key and star key, so who knows.
Yeah, you'd be surprised how little these hipsters who ride their fixies (or more commonly walk their fixies) around town know about bikes. They really are functionally retarded when it comes to fixing bikes. I've seen everything from kids with vintage frames trying to fit new head sets on it (as mentioned), to kids spray painting over their brackets (even chains), to wondering why they would even need brakes if their going to be riding on the road, considering backpedaling.

you dont need breaks

but how do you feel about me a non hip individual riding a shitty fixed gear for transportation, i can also maintain it, haha

Lol you definitely need brakes if you're in tight Levi's and don't know how to ride a fixie. Especially in traffic. My only hate is directed towards hipsters who ruin fixies by carrying them around like fashion accessories. Ooo look at me and my alternative mode of transportation that i'm not using for transportation. I'm so edgy and hip. Watch me sip my latte talk on my iphone and walk my goddamn bike to the bus stop.

hahhah shut up. I know what your saying when SOME PEOPLE don't actually ride them much and act if they are a fashion statement. But i have a fixie, its a conversion, i spray painted it, i wear tight levis. But i ride everyday and i ride for long distances with flat little handle bars. I know a lot about bikes too, I also mtn bike. But really just chill out.
DONT GET A REPUBLIC!! horrible bikes and you'll look like a fool riding one. Horrible frames and they are the ones having an over priced shitty frame just because its colored..
if your going to spend the money look into Motion bicycles there pretty dope and colored.
i ride with a front brake too. Honestly, I hardly ever use it. Always good to have though.

Congratulations. You've bought into a trend in which you value style over substance. I hope you feel good that your tiny handlebars give you so much street cred. You look like a hipster fool and you betray your knowledge of bikes by riding around like that.

please can someone else tell him that he rides a fixie? i lol hard everytime he goes on such a baby-punting-spree. i might make an account for that.

hahah oooh lemme get out of your spandex pants and carbon fiber 20 speed!!! holy fuck dude. I think you like to classify a whole trend into that when a lot of people ride fixed gears because they are actually fun to ride.. ever think of that? You think that baggy cloths make you ski better? probably not. Wearing super tight close would probably work better but nobody does it huh? (other then racers) but every sport has a style that goes along with it, or type of lingo, things people maybe drink? your refrencing to lattes well a lot of skiers drink redbull or bball players drinking gatorade.. I just think you have a personal grudge against hipsters or whatever. But really I know a lot about bikes. I own 4.
mtn-110 speed-2and one Fixed.
Ive rode all a ton.. Guess which one a like more? FIXED GEAR HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!

yo cfox, youre missing his point. if you ride your bike, s'all good. but if you carry your bike or push it along to your favorite place to smoke cigarettes and drink working class beer he's got issues with you. follow?

i would say if you look like a hipster and act like one and own a fixed gear, you are a fucking hipster, regardless if you ride it or walk it to the coolest cafe to stand outside of and smoke cigarettes

Republic bikes = Complete poop.
If you want to get a decent frame, get a KHS, or Leader or something good.
And I dare anyone to tear me down for being a hipster. Try me.

This is exactly the kind of person that republic is targeting with their shitty, hi-ten steel "handmade in china by little girls" conglomerate of puked color and shitty connection details "fixies" (i hate that term).
They wave the "custom colorz FIXIES!" and cheap prices in front of all your dumb faces so that you're hopping on the bandwagon with what is a laughable excuse for a bike. Their main marketing strategy is dependent on their color configuration....that should we warning enough in itself.
But yeah, old news. Check out velospace/ tricktrack etc. for more of this topic discussed to nauseam.

people who ride fixies are foolish. everyone knows the best part about riding a bike is being able to blast down a hill and coast it out, why would you want to have to pedal the whole time down a hill? why not let gravity take you for a nice easy fun ride and get your fuckign leg work out when you pedal up the hill? fucking stupid.

not for transportation...have you ever been to NYC have you been to Brooklyn have you driven around the different burrors and seen how hard it is to get around some times. Yea a lot of people use them as fashion accessories and by no way do i condone that, but a lot of people actually use then to get around. Its much easier and faster to bike 15 blocks than, have to walk to your parking garage or space, sit at 10 lights and search for a new parking spot which could end up being blocks from you location. Its much more convenient at times to hop on a bike and be there in 3 minutes.

Yes a lot of people use them stupidly and it would be easer some time to rock a 10 or 21 speed to get around, but styles style and trends are trends,

lol thats not even an argument for fixies thats just an argument for alternative transportation. they're also subways in NYC and you don't have to ride a fucking track bike to get around just because you dont want to drive a car you can ride a normal bike and get around just as easily/faster.

again fixed gears are retarded, why would you want to be pedaling at all times unless your a track racer or training for the fucking tour de france or other road races. as a means of general transportaion fixed gears are pointless. think about it, there are bikes specifically designed for commuters (aka general trasnportation) and none of them have fixed gears because it doesnt make sense for that type of application.

Im actually sick of all this 'hipster' hate. Wait thats not the right way to say it. They piss me off sometimes, too. But I hate how anything 'hipster' related gets hated on like mad.

Im a biker (bmx, mtb) and pretty much all the people i ride with have a cruiser or a fixie. Theyre just fun bikes. After a long day of riding, its fun to get a couple of friends together and go for a cruise. Its even better when youre on a bike that you refurbished yourself.

Like seriously stop fucking hating. If its not your thing, shut the fuck up nobody likes a hater.

Fixies are a fast means of transportation. A lot of people would say that are faster then a freewheel or 10 speed. So you saying that they are slower and not as easy is retarded. Obvousily you can't even say that they are worse to ride since you haven't ever rode one. Ive rode both so i can actually talk. After riding fixed for the past 6 months going back to a free wheel feels weird, and i feel like i have less control over the bike. With a fixed you can slow down without even touching the brakes. I hate when people judge a whole type of doing something without even goin out and trying it with an open mind.

Oh and the argument above that having a freewheel works your legs more? bhahah. Fixies work your entire legs faaar more then a freewheel. They build much more mucele since your legs are actually moving the entire time and your using them to slow down.

dude, fixed gear bikes originated from messengers in cities like NYC and DC who only rode downtown, wanted a bike that was easy to take care of, cheap to fix, and a less attractive item to be stolen. so yes, if you live in a hilly area, fixies are probably more trouble than they're worth. But, if you live in a flat area or city, you dont really need gears. DC for example is pretty much perfectly flat, and you dont need gears to get around.

true that

i dont understand why these dumbass hipsters have to ride "fixies'"(the name is even dumb)
next thing you know they will go back to riding these

and theyre fixed gears too!

I rode a fixed gear Fuji Feather, and compared to a normal road bike, I must say they add en extra twist and are quite fun to ride.
