For the foil haters

about those cracking edges... on untracked.com it says that salomon has integrated "full width total edge reinforcement" into their skis.

then again, i've never skied them. but they look delightful. Just to enlighten.

I just dislike the feel of Salomon skis. They have a chattery feel, they're too lively. The foils aren't as bad as the Pocket Rocket/Guns feeling you get on Groomers but they still aren't great.

about that chattering... foils are a mid-range stiffness ski, right? it seems like they shouldn't really chatter. how stiff are they, say, compared to the publics?

no they don't. you're retarded. do you think that salomon (one of the biggest, most successful ski companies in the world) would continue to make a foam core ski if that was true? a good percentage of their ski line is foam core. all people do is bash salomon for being foam core... all i have to say is that they wouldn't be no. 1 if what you're saying was true. my foils are great. my teneighties were great. they never lost any life.

they dont get the stock skis, they get wood cores in their skis. or at least thats how it used to be

any ski will eventually crack if you continue to smash them on metal rails. my foils have held up beautifully, and slide so smooth. smooth.... like a virgin on prom night!!

^word, foils own and I can't believe people still haven't considered that if foam cores are as shit as you haters think, why would salomon still be producing foam core skis?

I have the old 03' Teneighties, and man, they chatter. But they do so like any park ski of that stiffness. Foam cores can be nice, no doubt, as Nomensteven says, otherwise Saloman would be out of business. However, there is one nagging thing about my skis that I really think is because of the foam in the core: The flex pattern. For some reason, its really really hard to butter on my skis well, just because the rebound of the skis is so immediate. With wood, the flex takes a little more time to bend back into its natural position, but I think that the foam cores snap back quicker. I kind of like that leeway in the rebound, and all the other wood core skis's I've ridden have that.

Foam isnt a bad thing, true. However, just for me, I would prefer a wood core ski, just cause they're better in my opinion to butter (and also because K2 uses wood cores in the Maden's). Who knows, maybe foam exceeds where wood doesnt in some way, maybe like overall stability or weight, but lets face it, the differences are really minute. Only people with too much time on their hands can really argue that one is really better than the other hands down.

^I'm pretty sure you just complained about your skis being too poppy... the quick rebound is quite useful for say olling onto a rail or something of that nature, once wood cores break in over time they do start to lose their pop and rebound slower so it sounds like your skis have maintained their pop which is quite dope.

You hit that on the head. Pic up a wood core ski versus a foam core and the foam will be lighter.

I personally love the all mountain stability of my Guns. They are a great ski from the park to ripping steep pow lines. However, the flex in the tails is getting pretty floppy as of late. I did that to my Chronics too, so it can happen to wood as well.

If by "it" you mean $$$

and I don't have anything against Salomon, I just don't like their skis. I used some Pocket Rockets and they were total shit. All floppy and poopy flex. bah. the best skis I've ever used are K2s and Armadas. I really wanna try some Heads though.

i skied them last week and the rep said its the exact same ski new topsheet and i absoluteley hated the ski anyways. the SPK is the way to go

THEY ARE NOT FOAM CORES...THAT IS A COMMON MISSUNDERSTANDING

i was at momentum demoing the salomons and i asked about the foam cores and he said they actually weren't foam anymore but some other synthetic material (forgot the name) that was much better than foam and lasted much longer

SO NOW IT IS CLEAR SALOMON DOES NOT USE FOAM ANY MORE

this is a stupid arguement. It all comes down to how you like your skis and what you terrain you ski. Some people like a ski that is more on the damp side = wood core

some people like a poppy ski = foam core

I have Seth Pistols, my buddy has Guns. We have the same size boots so we can swap boards. His guns were fun, light, and super easy to turn, but I like my skis with more a damp feel.
