For the bass heads out there.

I have an Alpine amp that puts out about 500 watts RMS, I have two JL 12's both rated at 200 watts RMS. A few months ago, I smelt a burning smell and my subwoofers stopped working, but only one of them. Since then I have put my bass as low as possible and it has worked, but I am quite tired of only having one sub at minimal power.

Could my amp have overpowered the subs and burned out the coils?

I am planning on sending them back before the one year warranty is over to get a brand new set. I was either thinking I would sell those to buy another pair and that can handle a higher RMS, or set my amp to a certain point where it won't overpower the subwoofers again?

What do you guys think my best bet is?

Fuck you're one of those people who think everyone on the street wants to hear what you're listening to?
