Yeah, gotta sell this camera, its only been used maybe for 2 full tapes. Yes sad i know, but when i got an HDR-FX1 i saw really no use for this camera, and could use the money more. So basically this camera shoots in HDV, which is High Def to a DV tape. And the quality is absolutely stunning. The camera uses a CMOS proeccesor rather than the 3ccd chips. This really has a very incredible quality for such a small camera. This is a more in depth description of the camera:

Changing the notion that high-definition video recording is for "advanced videographers only" Sony offers the HDR-HC3 HDV 1080i Handycam camcorder. Compared to its predecessor, this new, high-def camcorder is 26 percent more compact, packed with easy-to-use features, and more affordable. The camcorder will snuggle up comfortably next to your high-def TV with its HDMI output. Now the de facto standard in the consumer electronics industry for transferring high-def content, HDMI offers simple, one-cord connection to display devices so you can just plug and play instead of struggling with multiple cables. Your own home movies recorded with the HDR-HC3 will stand up proudly next to your pre-recorded high-definition video. The new camcorder delivers superb high-definition picture quality and lighting detail on both video and digital still images. The HDR-HC3 model features a professional-quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens and Sony's new ClearVid CMOS Sensor technology. This imager is engineered to boost picture resolution and clarity to deliver vivid colors and precise image detail. Combined with Sony's Enhanced Imaging Processor, it provides new and fun-to-use functions. The camcorder shoots four-megapixel still images, stored on an optional Memory Stick PRO Duo media card, for easy transfer between compatible devices. It has a dual record function that allows you to shoot video and simultaneously capture 2.3 megapixel stills (16:9) in high definition mode and 1.7-megapixel stills (4:3) in standard definition mode. You can also record slow motion video using the model's smooth slow record function, which plays back three seconds of video in 12 seconds - ideal for analyzing your golf swing or tennis back-hand. For quick framing and easy image sharing, the camcorder has a 2.7-inch touch panel SwivelScreen LCD featuring Sony's new Clear Photo LCD plus technology. The LCD produces bright images with high-contrast that are easy to view in virtually any environment and at any angle. Other helpful features include Super SteadyShot image stabilization, a built-in microphone for excellent audio quality, an intelligent built-in flash for well-exposed still images, and a supplied InfoLithium P battery for up to 90 minutes of continuous recording.

Features:

Meet this incredibly small high definition camcorder: the Sony HDR-HC3E in "PAL". At just under a pound and a half, it has tons of features. First, it has genuine 1080i resolution, so you shoot in real HDTV. Second, it uses HDV, which brings the resolution of HD to a tape the size of a Mini DV cartridge. Menu options are easy to choose, thanks to the 2.7" widescreen LCD SwivelScreen monitor.

This 4-megapixel CMOS processes faster than a CCD for richer color and better detail. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens also adds color and detail, plus reduces glare with its special T coating.

As impressive as the HDR-HC3E is as a camcorder, it gets even better as a 4 megapixel digital still camera. Store images on Memory Stick DUO Pro media and use the slot on the camera to view them. You can even shoot HD video and take a 2.3-megapixel still at the same time. Connect to a PC through USB or i.LINK to edit or share video. PictBridge lets you print photos directly from your compatible printer without having to use your computer.

Key Features

HDV Format

HDV puts widescreen high definition on a compact digital videocassette for the ultimate mix of quality and convenience.

1080i Resolution

Shoot in genuine 1080i high definition - this camera's native format.

1/3" CMOS Sensor

The CMOS sensor has 3 million total pixels. It delivers faster image processing than a CCD, meaning richer color, greater detail, and less glare from objects.

Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T Lens

The lens is specially coated to reduce glare and improve detail.

2.7" Touch Panel SwivelScreen

This widescreen color LCD monitor adjusts to almost any angle. It gives you an accurate interpretation of what your video will look like on a larger screen, whether in 4:3 or 16:9. Menu options are just a touch of the screen away.

Cinematic Mode

Make your movies look even more like movies. Cinematic Mode duplicates the look and feel of film on videotape.

Manual Controls

Put yourself in control with manual settings of shutter speed and white balance. A zoom ring, zebra pattern, Iris and spot focus give you even more control.

Super Steadyshot

Super Steadyshot electronically reduces or eliminates camera shake for smooth shots under almost any condition.

Super NightShot Plus

Get the most detail out of dark scenes with Super NightShot. This infrared system lets you shoot in almost total darkness.

4 Megapixel Still Camera

This camcorder doubles as a high-end digital camera. In fact, the camcorder and still camera work together - you can shoot high definition video and take a 2.3-megapixel still photo at the same time.

Intelligent Pop-Up Flash

The flash pops up from inside the camera body automatically at just the right time, then disappears.

PictBridge Compatibility

Print photos and still frames from video directly to a PictBridge-equipped printer with just one button. No computer required!

Memory Stick PRO Duo Slot

Store your photos and video clips on Memory Stick PRO storage media for handy playback in the camcorder, or record to Memory Stick PRO and play back on TVs equipped with Memory Stick slots.

i.LINK Interface

An IEEE 1394 connection lets you digitally connect to other camcorders, computers, or professional video systems for fast, flawless editing and file transfer.

USB Port

Link this camcorder up to a computer or printer for fast file transfer and communication between machines.

no, it films NSTC, i just copied and pasted the info from B and H Photo, and for some reason it lists PAL

well Im not a fan of the HDV cams either, but I dont want to taint your sale, so Im just gonna shut my mouff.

hd isnt bad, its awesome for filming sports and things like that where you want a clear real looking picture, but for doing creative artsy shots i hate it. you can do so much more with film.

but i guess it totally depends on your style and what you like.

for sure, but how many people can afford those kind of cameras, and once you start using film the cost never lessens...

i know i'm trying in 3 locations, but why not try! someone may pick it up, so dont waste your time telling me something i already know! thanks

too expensive? then dont be dumb, i've never dropped a camera, or gotten one wet, even going on and off rails or jumps, and its been w/ 4000 dollar cameras

ive gotten my camera soaked in the snow and rain and it hasnt done much. MY gl2 Plus everything was 2000 and its hard to be dumb and fuck up your camera real bad.

^exactly if your a dumb ass, yes you'll probably break your camera, but if your smart, careful, and half way educated, you'll have no problem operating a camera and going to the mountain with it!

PBP follow cammed Andreas in Ski Porn with a $6,000 cam, not to mention the P2 cards, which cost like $2,000 each. So Im assuming thats around $9,000 total.

you play guitar, i dont have that kinda cash but i would be willing to trade a gibson les paul classic, just gunna throw it out there

its up there, its around the same as 3CCD quality, w/ HD color and Pixels, its flat out amazing for the price! If you know how to get the settings right, i'd guess you could get pretty close if not right on ski movie quality!
